Wrapping things up

This is going to be shorter post from me today. Things are really racing to a finish as far as college basketball is concerned. It feels like just the other day it was November and we were starting the preseason. I remember fondly the days when Michigan State was ranked in the top 5 and we had high high hopes for the season.

Now, here we are with just one game left in the regular season and the uncertainty that Michigan State will even make it to the post season.

Okay, my uncertainty. There are a lot of people who think it is a done deal, it's just a matter of where they will be seeded. I hope that is the case, but part of me can't help but be a little nervous. If they fall to Northwestern this week and get knocked out of the Big 10 tournament fairly early, they might be lucky to even find themselves in a play in game.

As I mentioned in my post yesterday, my niece is back in action today with the Tiffin Dragons in a double header against Saint Leo University in Saint Leo Florida. I got to see some photos of their off day yesterday and it looks like the team had a great day spending some time together and bowling.

Back to college basketball...

Some of our late season favorites from previous years are making some moves to prove they belong in the tournament. For example, Loyola Chicago took down #21 Dayton 77 to 72 on Friday night.

On Saturday there were 16 top 25 games and a couple of them were really impressive. #15 Baylor took down #7 Kansas 82 to 74 which oddly enough wasn't that much of an upset. I went into my betting app to place a bet on Baylor over Kansas and found that Vegas was considering Kansas the underdog.

The same was true with the Creighton/Marquette game.

#5 Marquette fell to #12 Creighton 89 to 75, but I only won something like $.40 on a $1 bet because Creighton winning was the expected outcome.

Finally, the last upset of the day on Saturday came when #23 Gonzaga took down #17 St. Mary's 70 to 57.

I think we all probably know by now that Michigan State fell to #2 Purdue 80 to 74. I'm actually impressed that MSU was able to keep it so close so long. They played a good game and barring some typical mistakes I think they could have won the game.

Sunday there was only one top 25 game on the books and it was #3 UConn taking down Seton Hall.

Last night there were two games and neither of them were upsets.

With the Big 10 women's tournament starting tomorrow on the 6th, the men's season finishing up and then their tournament starting on the 13th, it's safe to say we have some great basketball in store before the post season!

I'm looking forward to it!
