Absolute Magic! A #threetunetuesdaypost

Sometimes I need to put a lot of thought into the theme I am going to use for my #threetunetuesday post sponsored by @ablaze. Other times, it just sort of falls into my lap. The latter is definitely the case this week. Actually, this idea occurred to me two weeks ago, but since I already had something planned for last week, I had to push it to this week.

First of all, I'd like to give a shout out to @ausbitbank for the use of the AI art generator that he has available on his Discord server. I've gotta be honest, I went through about ten iterations of this photo trying to get what I wanted. For some reason that I am sure someone smarter than me can explain, the face just wasn't turning out right. It looked cartoonish and honestly really poor quality.

Thankfully, there is a bot that will eventually help you get the results you want if you try to many times or something like that I guess.

In case you haven't figured it out from the photo or the title, the theme this week is Magic and I have to admit, aside from the first song that inspired this theme, there are a ton of them to choose from. I almost wonder if I could spread this theme across multiple weeks there are so many.

I've always been a fan of magic. Anytime David Copperfield would have a special on TV, I would watch it as a kid. I also had this Fisher Price Magic Kit that I played with constantly. I still have it downstairs actually, and my nieces and nephews still pull it out from time to time. Some of the parts are gone, but it keeps them entertained.

I remember when David Blaine first came on the scene and his street style of magic was unlike anything I had seen before. I'm the sort of person who likes to know how tricks are done, I don't feel the mystery is gone by knowing the secret, because being able to pull it off is 90% of the trick. That kind of skill is impressive whether you know how they did it or not.

Anyway, you came here for music, so let's get to it!

So this is the song that started it all for me. I've always been a fan of Roxette, there is just something about this amazing band from the 80's that always puts me in a great mood. Their songs are catchy and quite honestly pure 80's gold. I know some people feel like all of their songs sound the same, but if you really dig into it, they were some great tunes.

"Almost Unreal" is probably one of their lesser known songs unless you were a huge fan of the Super Mario Brothers movie that it looks like it was from. Quite honestly, I never watched the movie. Clearly it was the line "I love when you do that hocus pocus to me" that inspired this whole post.

Unfortunately, the world lost Gun-Marie Fredriksson in 2019 after a long battle with a brain tumor. She was actually diagnosed in 2002 with the tumor, so the fact that her friends and family got that extra time with her is a blessing. I'm going to do some more digging into her solo stuff later today. I'd like to personally thank the nation of Sweden for blessing the world with this amazing woman. Between her and ABBA, we owe you so much!

If you have been following me for any amount of time, you know that I pretty much love any kind of music. The one exception to that would probably be boy bands. They just don't do it for me. I'm not saying that the songs aren't good, but some of them just really aren't that good. I don't know, maybe if I was a young lady I would feel differently.

Girl bands on the other hand I have zero problem with. Even when the song is kind of cringe like "Black Magic". Maybe I don't mean cringe, but you have to admit it is a bit cheesy. Cheesy with a great beat that has you finding it hard to dance to it.

Clearly based on the video this song is geared towards a teen audience, but it's honestly one of my guilty pleasures.

Little Mix hails from England and they were formed from the British version of the X Factor talent show. According to the Wiki page, they are the first and only girl group to win the contest. Apparently, in 2022 they went on hiatus so they could all pursue solo projects. You can read more about them here.

They only came on my radar because I saw them sing Black Magic on a morning show. I'm sure they received a lot more fanfare over in England. I wouldn't be shocked if @slobberchops admitted they were his favorite group of the 2000's. On second thought, don't hold your breath.

As I said, there are at least a dozen songs I could think of to fit the bill for this theme. I often like to find songs that have a more veiled reference to the theme as opposed to smacking you in the face with it. Almost Unreal is a good example of that. I don't think they specifically say "Magic", but the reference to it is clear.

Then we have the last song where the title alone lets you know what we are talking about. I've always been a huge fan of The Cars. They were one of the staples of growing up in the 80's and I can't think of a better way to close out this weeks post by sharing the song "Magic" from them.

If you had asked me, I probably would have told you that The Cars were from England, but in fact, they were from the US. There is just something about the way the New Wave bands sing that makes it sound like they might be from across the pond. Then again, maybe it's just me.

I do have to admit, of all the videos that I am sharing today, this one probably has the best one. I definitely see a deep dive into The Cars in my future for the week.

I'm pretty proud of this collection of songs today. I think the only way I could have made it better is if I had thrown some Xanadu in there from Olivia Newton John. What do you think?

Not in literal sense, but some music feels like Magic when played.

It's a whole different world. I could spend hours figuring it out and still not be that great at it.

That's why I've always liked Penn & Teller. Half the time they tell you exactly how they do the trick. I think they even may have stopped calling it magic. But it's still amazing watching how they pull it off. I can't imagine the hours of practice to get so good that you can do the trick without looking, while actively doing something else to distract the audience from what you are really doing. It's mindblowing!

Love the first song, and how could I dislike anything by the Cars. Excellent picks!

Yeah, I used to watch that masked magician from time to time. I think the other benefit of people doing that is the fact that it makes the other magicians up their game. It keeps them on their toes!

Oh, what a great topic.
Actually sounds simple but thinking about it I realize it would be hard for me to even come up with three songs right now without research. Kudos to your collection :-)

And what a great trip down memory lane bring The cars to my attention again. Thanks :-)

Thanks, I appreciate it! Yeah, I was thinking I could probably do a whole month of posts about this topic and still have room to spare. Just so many good songs!

I wouldn't be shocked if @slobberchops admitted they were his favorite group of the 2000's.

I am aware of them, but this type of music washes over me and leaves no mark. I can't hear anything that tingles my senses.

I figured you were probably more of a Spice Girls fan. :)

Great stuff! The Cars have always been one of my favorite bands, it was sad to lose Rick and Benjamin. That's an awesome song! And as a kid I think we all loved magic, I still know a few tricks...

Roxette another nice pick, been a long time since I heard this one!

Little Mix is one I wasn't all that familiar with, but it was pretty good. Just one of those band I never heard all that much, then again I was working my ass of in the early 2000's...

You always pick some cool stuff, you didn't disappoint!

Thanks, I am glad you enjoyed it! I really love a lot of the stuff that came out of the 80's. There was some really good bands back then. I guess Roxette, but even be early 90's now that I think of it. I guess I was a bit off on my decades there.

I was a big fan of the Cars back in the 80s - and magic is a great tune, its bringing back happy memories listening to it now. My daughter loved Little Mix when they first came out - they had some good tunes. The little Mix tune I really like is Oops - its a cracker !
Nice picks again !

I remember The Cars well from the 80s. I think I always knew they were from the US. The style of the videos gave it away, but back then I didn't always see the videos. We didn't have MTV.

This may be the first time I've watched a Little Mix video. I'm not that familiar with their work.

You aren't missing much on the Little Mix front. I mean the stuff is catchy, but it doesn't have a ton of substance. I spent all day yesterday listening to The Cars and today is looking like it is going to be a Roxette day. We didn't have MTV growing up either.
