Friday Finance 8/19/2022: Looking at the market(s)

It is time again for another Finance Friday/Friday Finance. This is a series I started where I talk about random bits of financial stuff that I have seen, gathered, or experienced during the week. I hope as a reader you find it informational, entertaining, or both. I also hope it can generate some good discussion and edify the Leo community.

I'm actually going to kill two birds with one stone on this post. Not only will it be my regular Friday Finance post, but it is also going to be an entry into the #marketfriday thing-a-ma-jig hosted by @dswigle.

My wife and I have been wanting to get to the farmer's market pretty much all summer, but most Saturdays we have been out of town so it didn't really work out for us. Of course she could go on Wednesday morning when they also have it, but what fun would that be going alone.

Honestly, I want to say we had fun visiting the market, but that would be a lie. It was pretty horrible if I have to be honest.

We were there for three specific things: sweet corn, cucumbers, and dill. We should have know better since it was a pleasant Saturday morning, but we weren't quite expecting there to be so many people.

So many people aimlessly wandering around blocking the walkways. Standing right in front of a booth not making a transaction but talking away to their friend and blocking my ability to get the desired produce. I'm going to jump away from finance for a bit and talk about sociology (maybe). It's amazing to me how few people have what I call "situational awareness" these days.

I feel like it has become even worse in the past five years. Everyone is basically in their own bubble and oblivious to the bubbles surrounding them. Trust me, I am a fan of bubbles. Let me stay in my bubble an you can kindly stay out of it, but at least be aware of the other bubbles around you.

If these people drove the way they walk around in stores and places like this the roads would be full of nothing but accidents and gridlock. It's nuts! There is a social education program called Great Expectations my district has used it with varying levels of success through the years. One of the tenants they teach you in the program is the idea of walking on the right hand side of the hallway.

Stores and other areas would be more manageable if everyone held to this. At least at that point you would only have to worry about the UK and European people walking on the wrong side!

As much as I complain, it is really a pretty cool market. They recently moved it away from the old location and they now hold it in the parking lot of our local minor league baseball team. Partly because they needed the space and partly because the old location had a propensity to flood. I didn't take as many photos as I had planned because like I said, I was pretty annoyed.

If you can break away from the crowds they have some cool things like a food truck area and the small tent above where local artists play music for the crowd. This is something I could see @steevc doing on a Saturday morning if he wasn't busy with parkrun.

After we had gotten our sweet corn, cucumbers, and dill, I snapped this picture of what looked like a military style plane on our way out. Not too surprising given the fact there is a military base less than two hours north of us. I often see the "tank busters" flying up the coast of Lake Huron and over our campus where I work.

WAX

On the finance side of things, there is quite a bit going on over on the WAX blockchain. I still feel like this is one severely undervalued chain. Similar to HIVE it is delegate proof of stake and it has so much to offer. Twelve cents is a ridiculous price right now for a token that should easily be well over $1.

They made this announcement recently and I think it should help bring some more traffic to the token. Actually, I am not sure what is going to get more people using the token. If they haven't aped into it by now, they are really missing the boat.

What I do know is that this should make it much easier for me to claim my DeFi rewards that I am collecting over on WAX. Being able to avoid ETH as much as possible is always a good thing (at least for now).

The other cool news coming out of the WAX ecosystem is the fact that Coinbase announced they are going to support TLM in their wallet now. TLM is the native token of the Alien Worlds game over on WAX. Alien Worlds has been very good to me and allowed me to make some crypto moves I otherwise wouldn't have been able to.

It's safe to say I own a little bit of TLM and anything that is maybe going to improve the price of that token is A-Okay with me!

That's all I've got for you today. I hope it was enough to keep you satisfied until next week.

Have an awesome weekend!

We were at a big craft and antiques market last weekend. That was busy and it's a shame people don't clear up after their dogs as people will not be watching where they tread all the time. Can you guess what I stepped in? There was a guy there playing piano who was pretty good.

Oh man, that is horrible! Yeah, that is the worst when people don't clean up after their animals!

Well, humans could be rowdy at times. That program you mentioned that teaches people on which side they should walk is quite an interesting initiative. Sadly, that does not exist here in my country. Everybody walks as their spirit leads..😂

I haven't been keeping up with WAX and I honestly haven't really been bothering with things much. The TLM news does sound good for WAX and Alien Worlds though.
