HF26 Fallout: None?

None... Okay, virtually none, at least from an end user standpoint. I would have to say in the nearly five years that I have been on this blockchain, this might possibly be the smoothest hardfork I have ever went through.
Of course, the witnesses and developers might feel a little differently. I think I read a post the other day talking about nodes not coming back up right away and taking a bit of time to catch up, but as far as I am concerned, the impact was negligible at best.
My hats off to everyone involved in creating, pushing out, and implementing this hardfork. Your work is impeccable!
Shortly after 9:00 AM EST when the hardfork went life I sat at my desk and I had https://hiveblocks.com open. I made some comments, played some Splinterlands, and kept refreshing the page to see how it would impact my RC. Thankfully, I think I have enough staked that the impact is pretty insignificant. I think it will only be some of those newer accounts that have trouble with RC.
I look forward to seeing what the different teams can come up with regards to RC leasing and delegation. I think it is going to be pretty awesome.
If I had one negative to take away from this whole thing, it would be auto-votes.
I know, I know, this is a touchy subject in the first place. Many people frown on auto-votes and feel that manual curation is the only route. Others rely solely on auto-votes and do very little in the way of manual curation. Mostly you see the latter with larger accounts that have been on the platform for six or seven years.
With Hive.vote (arguably the largest auto-vote service on the chain) down in preparation for the hardfork, many people who chose to post anyway were left high and dry. Personally, I have zero problem with auto-votes. I think it is a great tool and I have made it a point to find a balance between using the service and doing manual curation.
What I find disappointing is how this "outage" brought to light just how little manual curation there is on the chain. I know some people who purposely opted not to post over the past couple of days because they needed or wanted those auto-votes.
I made the decision to post anyway, but my rewards were clearly a fraction of what I usually make on my posts.
Looking back, my posts usually garner about 200 upvotes per post. That's on average. You can see my post came in at 4x less upvotes just shy of 50. That's kind of not cool, and that isn't even looking at the vote value aspect.
I understand many people follow curation trails. Those are a great tool for passive income and absolutely in your rights to use them. It's just a little sad to see how little manual voting is happening.
Kudos to groups like @appreciator and users like @trafalgar who clearly are doing manual curation. Without their votes (and several others), the post rewards on my last two posts would have been pretty sad (relatively speaking).
Like I said, I am not opposed to auto-votes. I think it is a really great tool when used meticulously and with care. I think it benefits the whole chain when we can find a balance between that and manual curation. I made it a point to do some extra manual curation yesterday because I knew people wouldn't be getting those auto-votes.
Quite honestly, despite my balance, I need to make a point of doing more of that. There are so many great people out on the chain. They deserve the love to be spread around as much as possible.
How did you think the hardfork went? Did you notice any issues? Did you try to do some extra manual curation over the last couple of days? Let's talk about it in the comments.
Sports Talk Social - @bozz.sports

I think it went smoothly. There were a few things not available for a while, but it was to be expected. There was a jovial spirit on Discord and this was also good fun doing the countdown!
Yeah, it has been a really positive thing I think. Way better than the old days when the chain was down for days.
The witnesses 21 and under are saying they arent getting any blocks since the HF. Hopefully, that will be sorted though.
I hadn't seen anything about that. I am sure they will get it fixed.
After reading your post, I understand why there were little number of votes on most of the posts I saw yesterday. Autovotes must be a heavily relied upon tool on Hive in terms of curation. Other than that, everything went smoothly!
Yeah, more than I would have guessed based on the numbers. Having the numbers stare you in the face was really telling.
Here you are... have a manual upvote (although it's only a little one) 😁 I always do all of mine "by hand", although I admit to working down a small list of favourites before wandering around the fascinating rabbit-holes of the wider community.
I am the same way. Over time I have vetted that list of favorites pretty fully and eventually they make their way to my auto-vote list. I don't try to chase the curation rewards the way I used to, but I will admit some of those auto-votes are still there. If you took a really deep dive into my account you would see that I comment quite a bit and I think that really speaks to my engagement on the chain more than how I vote.
Most of my voting is manual. I follow one trail with small votes. I did notice my last post got less votes, but I care more about human engagement. You and I make more than most people and we should not take it for granted.
Generally the hardfork seems to have gone smoothly. I've seen some issues accessing lists on peakd.
I think that is something specific to PeakD. I have been following along in the support channel for them over on Discord. I have a feeling they will get it fixed soon.
Great Info, this deserves my reblog
Thank you!
There's still some issues with the blogging side. Node switching, having to send comments twice.. I expect it to settle soon. The node thing is also playing havoc with my python scripts as I have to hard code a particular node in.
I think that is the front ends more than it is the actual chain. I've noticed very little impact compared to some of the previous forks.
It is very true what you say. I expected many more problems with the change but I have practically not noticed anything.

It sound like there has been a bit more flakiness than I thought, but nothing major and nothing that people haven't been able to work around to still post.
I actually feel it's a much better decision that we posted while others didn't because they took a break. People who still manually curated needed something to vote on.
As for auto-votes, yes they are a big part of the ecosystem, I follow 2 or 3 curation trails too, but also vote manually. And yesterday I was actually searching for content to vote on because my voting mana kept growing. It was an opportunity to look at the accounts of people I haven't checked out in some time.
Very similar with me. I found some new accounts to follow and threw some votes around to accounts I had kind of forgotten about. I feel like I should do that more often. Like once a week or something like that. I also agree, I got some votes during the down time that I likely wouldn't have gotten otherwise, so that was a blessing.
Interesting observation. Most of my votes are autovotes too. I hope that I've 'earned' those votes by posting quality content consistently. It feels like I'm being trusted, in a way, and it keeps me from sh*tposting.
I totally agree with that. I have worked hard to build my following. If they want to auto-vote me then it is well their right. Like I said, I don't have a problem with auto-votes. It's just sad to see how much it impacts your earnings when it is not working. It also makes you wonder how much people actually read your stuff...
Yeah, I wonder how much reading is going on alot. Have you tried sharing on Dreemport? I usually get much better comments through them, which tells me people are actually reading.
No, I have never heard of them actually. Thanks for the heads up!
Hello!
I have been in Hive for more than a year. And I haven't used the automatic votes so far, I usually try to do my votes every day. I don't rule out using automatic votes in the future if I know I'll be offline for a long time, but I prefer to see what I'm voting for. And well yesterday was really dramatic the difference in the votes. Otherwise, the Fork, except for some problems with the notifications, went by without a major issue for me.
That is a good place to start. It usually takes a while to figure out who is worth adding to your list. It is a fluid process too. Sometimes you find you need to remove accounts because they aren't living up to your standards.
I do a lot of manual voting I actually can’t remember if I auto vote… I need to look into that.
It's back up and running now. It's always good to check it every now and then.
