Scenes from the week: End of May photo dump

I realized the other day I have a bunch of random photos that alone don't amount to a full post. I mean sure I could throw them in a thread or a dbuzz post, but I'd much rather create something long form. I decided I am going to bundle them together into a single post and share some scenes from the past week with you.

Go ahead and roll your eyes, but month end photo dumps like this are quite common on Instagram among the cool kids these days. At least that is what I tell myself.

If you missed it, there have been some pretty big wildfires up in Canada lately. Those fires have been creating a steady stream of smoke that has drifted down into the US and made things quite hazy. One of the good side effects of that is we have had some pretty amazing sunrises over the past week.

You can't really see the intensity of the colors here, but trust me when I say they were there. I really need to start carrying a proper camera with me so I can capture these events in all their grandeur.

Maybe next time I will run in my office and grab my Sony digital camera, and drive the two miles down the road to the city park so I can get a photo of the sun coming up over Lake Huron. I've actually never been down to that park even though I have been working here for close to 20 years!

My wife and I stopped at the park yesterday to take a walk. We went from temps in the 80's, then a sudden drop to the mid 50's. I thought it was going to be much too cold to walk, but it was actually quite pleasant with the sun out.

There was a significant wind yesterday, but that moved a lot of the haze out and as you can see, the sky was pretty clear. Even this morning it is still windy and things are a lot clearer.

This is one of our favorite places to walk. I am happy to see how green it has gotten already. It's hard to believe that we are almost to the end of May. I've even had to mow my grass at least three times already.

This path is a giant oval that runs the perimeter of the township park. At certain points along the path there are paths that connect one long edge to the other one. We often take those paths in a up and down sort of fashion to get the most distance out of our walk.

That helps us avoid the people who are simply running around the perimeter of the path. Oddly enough, we saw zero people at the park yesterday. Hard to believe for how beautiful of a day it was. I guess that just goes to show you how cold the wind was making it.

This weekend was the one time of year that @mrsbozz hosts her aunts for Mahjong. Usually they play at someone else's house, but as I said, once a year they descend on ours. It's usually around the same time of our birthday's, and it never fails that they always ask if I am going to grill bratwurst for them.

IMG20230521110038.jpg

I've posted about this before in the past, but where most people boil their bratwurst first, I prefer to take the longer path. I grill the brats indirectly until they slowly come to temperature. This keeps the inside super juicy and the exterior crisp.

You actually have to be careful you don't burn yourself on the juices because of how the casing breaks when you bite into it.

I love spending time around the grill and I actually just bought a new toy for my Weber Kettle that I am hoping to write a post about sometime soon. Unfortunately, my weekends have been much to busy for me to get around to using it. It has just been sitting on a shelf waiting for some action for the past couple of months.

I went to our local butcher shop and got 18 bratwurst total. It ended up being way too many. I always over estimate how many we are going to need. I have actually been eating brats all week for my lunch and I don't mind at all!

I got four jalapeno cheddar brats, 6 beer and onion brats, and 6 western brats. The western ones are my favorite. They are like a western omelette but in brat form. You get cheese, potatoes, onions, peppers, they are delicious!

I covered the grill and let them sit for ten minutes, then I gave them their first turn.

Another ten minutes and I flipped them again as you can see, they are starting to look really good. I don't actually take the temp of them to ensure they are done, I can just kind of tell by looking at them. The good thing is with pork you can be a little "under" these days, but I have honestly never had that happen.

IMG20230521120040.jpg

I continued flipping them every ten minutes or so for a total of 30 to 40 minutes. In the end, the results were just as I expected. The aunties raved about them. I had one myself before I quickly left to go play disc golf with my friend and it was delicious.

@mrsbozz doesn't care for pork bratwurst, so towards the end of the cook I threw on a chicken burger for her. It turned out really well and she was pleased with the results.

After I played disc golf I came home and mowed the lawn. I was absolutely spent from the activity of the weekend. It was fun though, good friends, good eats, what more can you ask for?

I've got some big plans this weekend that I am really looking forward to. I can't wait to take as many photos as possible and share them with you next week. Be sure to stop in and check it out!

They are awesome. It's a pork sausage with different spices and flavors. It's not the healthiest for you, but nothing that tastes good ever is!

Wow this sure turned out to be a sausage party!

Month end photo dumps can be quite a thing when you get in the habit of snapping random pics of interesting perspectives and telling a little story about each. That is how my world-famous Weekly Zekely posts started! ;)

Good to know! I might have to start doing more of them. I know my wife is always asking me "why did you take a picture of that". "The answer is always Hive honey!". :)

I have a buddy up in Alberta and he says the fires have made the evening skies "look like we're in hell". Must be pretty bad up there.

Looks like a very nice park there!

Oh wow, I can't even imagine. Yeah, this park is really great and it has a lot of different things to do and see. Plus Jovi loves it!
