Today, a friend of mine posted online that she was planning on taking a break from social media. She just wanted to spend some real-time in the physical world and not have her face buried in her screens so often again.

When I read it, I kind of wondered the point of the post. Like, why was she coming online to tell us she was going offline? It’s like drinking to the fact that you want to stop drinking, that is not how it works. If you want to do it, then just do it. You owe no one online anything or any explanation.

2dk2RRM2dZ8gKjXsrozapsD83FxL3Xbyyi5LFttAhrXxr16mCe4arfLHA37mQtCuynkak9C9VAxm3nacdB7gLmLiZLuYVhHeNsRgxL6WKJoam3hs2B7ZLAp2jwaLFEwoAbLKzAfpv2DhtyvHbJunTbU58RMbxtkvefNK4qj8EA.png

Social media is one place where if you’re not careful, the faceless people you come across there will drive you straight to the edge of insanity, and the only viable option you’ll be able to think of will be to just throw yourself over. Social media has the ability to send one into depression, and even make them suicidal, it can make someone unhinged and as a result cause them to make disastrous choices.

It is not easy for you to live without being touched by all the negativity that exists on social media, especially if you are the kind of person who relies on people’s image of you for your living. This would be a kind of life that involves always living within the standards of those who look up to you.

So, I totally understand why someone would want to take a break from all the madness social media comes with. As I said, it is hard coping with everything, but when we take breaks, clear our heads, and do some physical work that will take our minds off the negativity of social media, we would find that we would be able to come back feeling refreshed.

And in a situation like this, when you have a great following, people who look up to you and hang onto your every word. They might just be your followers who swell up your account, or they might be the reason you earn a living in the first place, either way if you would be going off the grid for a while, then I believe you deserve to tell them. Especially when it will be for an extended period of time.

So yeah, I guess I do get why someone will announce the fact that they need to go off. The truth is, when it comes to social media, you never can really know what a person is thinking or going through. So everyone deserves to take time off, even physical jobs give their workers vacations to relax so they don’t burn out. The online space shouldn’t be any different.

This does not mean that you’ll be asking permission before you go off or anything, it is your life and you don’t need one. Just tell those following you so that when they do not see a post from you for a while they would not be worried. That will tell them just how you think of them, and springing surprises on them every time will just not cut it anymore.

Personally, I will advise that you try to take regular breaks from the internet and social media. If you can do it, then do it! Use that time to do nothing but relax and take care of yourself. One of the last things we want is to burn out doing something we enjoy, and one surefire way to burn out quickly is to not have a way to relax.

So, my dear friends, take a break today or tomorrow. You have no idea just how much that will help you.

The important of taking some time off can't be overemphasized but then when people are reminded of the importance to rest, they give a million reasons why they can't rest but then what I always like saying to sure people is that, experience is the best teacher.

Our bodies are engines that at some point if not given the proper care, will breakdown and we will end up spending more in getting it back in shape. So the wise thing to do is to try to give the body the care it deserves at every given point in time as much as possible.

Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful piece with us sir 🥰.

As in ehn... reasons will always come up to explain why we can't rest. And the truth is that resting is free, it's just as simple choosing to spend the day in bed and not do anything stressful. Free of charge!

Whereas, when lack of it causes something, it graduates into something way worse and money will be spent.

Thank you for reading.

Seems like this word is for me right now but not online related, I'm burned out from over working, I don't even plan to sleep these days it just happen anywhere while working, I wake up feeling surprised of how I suddenly fell asleep, its my body's way of telling me I need to take a break to refresh fully, hopefully, I can comply.

Sorry for ranting on your space. 🥴

Hah... this is not good ooo. Your body needs good sleep, and you have to be intentional about it. If you keep on having only snippets of it, you'll find that it will hamper your productivity. I urge that you try to get more sleep, you'll see the magic.

Thank you for reading, and you're always welcome to rant on my space😅

why was she coming online to tell us she was going offline?

I think she is a attention seekers and through her activity she want to take a break and catch the attention of others at the same time.

Completely stay far from social media isn't beneficial in my opinion. I think social media is very helpful and healthy for us if we use it till it's necessary for us. As an example I am here😅. I uninstalled Facebook but I use messager to get all necessary information from others.

Well, she kind of has a strong social media presence already, so I guess she already has a level of attention. I guess it's just so her followers don't get worried when they don't hear from her. But then, how can I know?

Of course, we can't stay away from social media, especially those who earn from it. But we can take breaks to clear our heads.

Thank you for reading.

I think the reason she came to say it in social media was so her followers will not be wondering what happened, it also shows she cares about them.

And yes, a break is always necessary once in a while, if not your body will force you to take that break and it won't be nice.

Thanks for this great piece.

Yeah... if you keep refusing to take rests, your body will do it for you. And that is always more costly.

Announcing one's absence does look a little cringeworthy at first glance. I used to think it was all an unnecessary demand for attention. Looking deeper into it, however, provides a different insight.

It is indeed a responsibility to let people who care about them (and they care about them) know about one's decision to take some time away and for how long. It reflects one's respect for them.

Speaking of taking breaks, boy do I often need breaks. The whole energy social media saps can be surreal sometimes.

Hah... try to take breaks. It really helps and gives one time to clear out the mind. And with social media, there will always be a reason to take a break.
