Home Is Home

The area you live in most of the time will always say a lot about you. Whether it’s in the rural or urban area, we simply do what works best for us. Many people choose to live in rural areas because things are cheaper there, and most of the time, they are usually safer than life in the big city. Not like now that bandits seem to be taking over our rural communities, there was a time not too long ago when those places were safe.
And life in the big city was just the exact opposite. It came with lots of noise, insecurity, and what have you? There was traffic, you had to be wary of your neighbors, and you had to protect yourself from robbers, both on the road and in your home. There were so many bills to pay, it was as if you were competing for space with everyone else. And boy, the crowd!!! It always seems like no one is in the village, and everyone and their grandma are all in the city.

The truth is, whichever way you lean, there are perks that would make you choose one or the other. Rural areas are generally quiet. In my village, they have stable electricity, good roads, and clean water. This is not how it is in most villages. But then, like other rural areas, there is not much a young person can do in the village. Besides farming and menial jobs, you’re simply going to waste your time away, doing basically nothing with your life.
And the sad thing is that village life has a way of making everything slow down and look easy, tricking you with the illusion of time. But you’ll be shocked to see that years will come and go, and you’re still in the same spot. No difference. No opportunities. Just you and the quiet life. That’s why the village is always good for holidays, because it gives you time to relax away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

And talking about city life, it has better opportunities and more avenues to make money. Also, it’s difficult for you to get relaxed when everyone around you is active and progressing. How will you stay stagnant when your neighbors are buying cars, getting married, and getting promoted at work? You’ll be surrounded by people who are making progress, and that will motivate you to get yours. And in the direct opposite of rural areas, the city gives you an illusion of no time. There is no time at all. That’s why everyone is always in a damn hurry because they have to make that money now!!! And it’s also why many people in the city choose to turn to crime when the pressure gets to them.
So now, if money and security weren’t an issue, where would I prefer to live? Honestly, this is hard to pick. I’m a writer and an introvert, so I value my privacy and my quiet time. I can get it in the village, but I can also get it in the city. The thing is, if money were no longer a problem, then I wouldn’t need opportunities to make money. So, if I do stay in the city, it has to be for different reasons. And one that I can think of is fun!

I’m the kind of person who likes having a good time, especially at random times and on spontaneous occasions. I want proximity to the beach, to the cinemas, and to the fancy restaurants. I want to be able to easily go to the hotspots and have a good time without worrying about the long trip back home. I’m the kind of person who, if I feel that a trip would stress me, then I won’t even bother taking it. I’ve turned down a lot of trips simply because I didn’t think I could cope with the traffic implications.
So, proximity to all these cool places can only be gotten by living in the city. There are nice estates that provide a serene and comfortable environment where I can do my work peacefully without any stress. Then every holiday, I’ll travel to my village to be one with nature all over again. That’s how it can be for me!
That’s my choice, I’ll stay in the city. Because just having money won’t be enough, there will still be a lot of things one can do and learn, and I’ll get all that in the city. And I’m sure it will be a great experience for me.

Just like you, my village look like a mini city, tared road , constant electricity more than what I have here in lagos, bore hole everywhere and then cheap food stuff..village market filled with fresh food....all these are tempting oo but I can only go for holiday...never choosing to reside in the rural area. Those guys don't think high....dey are okay with moderate life...omo, I prefer City where I will be challenged to stretch myself , sim higher abd work harder for a prettier kind of lifestyle

For the people settled int he city, its difficult to go back to the Village life, the very simple reason is the facilities they are used to in the city will not be available in the village. So someone living the city and moving in the village life need a strong reason. Facilities dominate the other fears of the city.
