I Guess There Is Something Like True Freedom...

During this week, one of the topics we treated was Too Much Freedom, and we got to see the dangers having too much freedom does to individuals. I noticed that many of us, myself included, were talking about freedom on a global scale, and few of us only actually brought it home to us and the little ways many of us wish to be free so we can do the things we like.

As long as there are things restricting them, humans will always yearn to be free, even though that freedom may never come. It doesn’t mean it will stop them from trying.

A lot of us looked forward to gaining admission into the university because of our desire to get out from under our parents. Of course, the degree was the main reason we wanted to go to the university, but the desperation that made us accept courses we didn’t apply for was just for us to leave home and be n our own. Funny because we were totally dependent on them, but we didn’t want to be with them so going to school was like the jackpot because we stopped being under their thumb and they still got to send us money. Awesome, right?

For many of us, the university spelled freedom, that’s why many of us were so desperate to go there. from our parents almost using chores to finish us, and having to explain our movements every single time we wanted to go out, we just could not wait to get out and be free.

But then, we went to school and we suddenly had all the freedom. Freedom like we had never had it before and there was no one to place the restrictions on us except we ourselves. That is why you’ll see a fresher that has only been in school for a month and already has a “serious” relationship, you’ll see guys immediately making hairstyles they know their parents would never approve of and girls wearing clothes they would never wear back home.

It is freedom, right? The restrictions that are holding them down are gone and they can do as they like. But then, we know very well that this is not freedom. Used this way, this “freedom” will only end up causing us to put ourselves into bigger cages that will end up being worse than the ones we struggled so hard to escape.

Do you know what true freedom is? It is having the ability to abuse freedom, but choosing not to. Every year, millions of students are admitted into universities, but it’s not millions that get into trouble, it’s not millions that drop out, it’s not millions that graduate and go on to become upstanding members of society.

There are students that still retain their training and do not throw them all away just because they are in a new environment, because if they no longer care about the things that matter, they will end up getting swayed by the wrong kind of people they associate with. Many who are not lucky could end up with unwanted pregnancies or get arrested, and we know very well that this will place even worse restrictions that the ones they were running from in their parents' house in the first place.

The truth of the matter is that problem no dae finish, and that in itself is a problem. Because when things are going great for us, problems come quickly. If we are too free, we would end up placing ourselves in bigger and stronger cages, making everything worse for everyone. But then, when we decide to choose our restrictions and stick to them. We know who we are and we know what we can and cannot allow, we allow these restrictions to be our guides, and we will find that we will attain true freedom.

We would be able to do whatever we want and however we want it, we just have to follow the due process. If we can decide the kind of restrictions we want in our lives, we would be able to decide the direction our lives would go.

And that, my dear friends, will make all the difference.

I remember when I was a student and the kids wanted to do things that their parents forbade them at home just to feel free, it wasn't good, it didn't work out for them. As you say, to be free is to decide what kind of restrictions we want in our lives.
A hug friend and thanks for sharing

True... such things will never work out and they will end up being a huge mistake.
