If Not Movies, Then What?

This is a pretty interesting topic that we’re faced with today. I guess when we all think about it, we do have that one thing that we love to talk about so much. The only downside to it is that, we’re the only ones who really love talking about it. At least in our circle. So, no matter how much you love it, you just have to keep it all bottled up inside you because no one cares.

Yeah, we all have been there. Matter of fact, it’s something that we go through every day. Take me for instance, I’m the kind of person who has no interest whatsoever in matters of football. The only time I show interest is when Nigeria is playing, or the World Cup. That’s just how far my interest goes, and anything more than that, you’re asking for way too much.

So, if you come over to me and start talking football, you can bet that it’s going to be a one-sided conversation and I won’t have much to say to you. I’ll find everything about it boring and if it goes on long enough, I’ll most likely kick you out.

But then, if you want to bond with me, and you want to really speak my language, then you have to have interests in movies and books like me. Most especially in movies because that is one altar on which I can spend my entire day without getting tired.

So, if I happen to get kidnapped, this is the one thing I’ll talk about that will force them to let me go 30 minutes later. I love movies and I love everything that has to do with movies. I love the actors and the actresses, I love how the same actor can pull off multiple roles in multiple films flawlessly. I love the stories and their use of colors and effects. I love sound effects, I love soundtracks… I just love movies.

I watch movies every single day, without fail. Although it’s usually the last thing I do before I go to bed, I do it all the same. And boy believe me when I tell you that there is so much to say when it comes to movies. I watch them all; Nigerian, English, Korean, Asian, etc. During the pandemic, one of my favorite shows was the Telemundo show El Finale Di Paradisia which means “The End Of Paradise”. All I’m saying is that as long as they’ve got a good story and the movie is done well, I’ll definitely enjoy it, regardless of where they’re from.

And then, the actors and actresses… one thing I really enjoy is seeing familiar faces in movies. You could be watching a movie with me and I’ll be rattling off the names of the actors and telling you the most recent movies they’ve been in. I’m not a huge fan or anything, I don’t follow their socials so as to know every little thing they’re up to. However, one can argue that I’ve got their filmography in my head. And just by seeing them, I’ll remember every other movie they’ve been in.

One thing I also love about this is that it makes me feel quite good. If there’s something I love, it’s a good success story. And for me, seeing you in multiple movies means that you’re climbing the ranks and growing, at least from my point of view. I know that so many things go on within the movie industry, but I know that if you’re acting in multiple movies, getting your face out there against all odds, then something is working right for you, right?

That is one reason I like Chidi Dike, he’s a Nollywood actor and I actually watch a number of the movies he’s been in. You’ll find them all on YouTube. Many people criticize his acting and say he lacks talent and all that… but for some reason, almost every week, he stars in a new movie, people go to watch it and he smiles at the bank. If that isn’t progress, then I have no idea what it is.

So, my dear friends, you can already see me getting carried away. Movies are my thing and they’re the one thing I know I can talk about for a long time, to the point that the poor kidnappers will have no reason but to let me go. It’s such a wide field, you know, and by the time we cover every inch, they’ll surely let me go.
