It's Now That Time Of The Semester...

I finally learned that our second-semester examinations are slated to begin next month, and for some reason, I’m not even fazed by it. Matter of fact, I want it to come quickly, just so we can get it doesn’t with and I can move on to other things.

But then, it’s only supposed to begin next month. The last time we trusted a supposed date, we ended up having it postponed for over a month just so the school would get as much as they could in school fees. Now, I don’t know if they’ll employ the same tactic. I’ve been hearing talks that there’ll be another CBT that will only be written by those who have paid the school fees.

Honestly, I’d prefer it if we just write the exams at their due date. Most of our exams take just about two weeks to be completed, which means before the month of November is over, we’ll be done with the semester. So, I’ll have the entire December and much of January to do my own thing.

All those unnecessary postponements they did last semester are what is really affecting us now. The semester is extremely short and lecturers have to rush their course outline, that’s even for those who choose to come to class. Others are not even bothered, yet they’ll be the ones to set one of the toughest questions you can think of.

This semester has by far been one of the most draining for me mentally, financially, and emotionally. I remember clearly that it was not like this during the first semester and till now, I still can’t pinpoint what exactly is different.

Anyway, it’s all good. I’ve already started the journey and I’m sure I’m going to finish it. And I’ll do it on a sound note. I know that I don’t have any say over the affairs of governing the school, I can only react to their policies and how they affect me. So, even though the school does decide to postpone the exams again, there’s really nothing I can do about that except sit at home and continue my work.

I’m feeling hopeful though. The year is almost at an end and I believe no one would want this academic session to spill over into 2024. Last semester has already taken up so much of the year that if they delay too much, this semester would also take out of the next session. For the sake of the school’s own calendar, I doubt they’ll be willing to do all that.

Another good thing to note is that Student Week has always symbolized the end of the semester because most of the time what comes after it is just revisions and subsequent preparations for exams by the students themselves. Having regular lectures after Student Week is not that common. It happens, but it’s not common.

This is the reason many of the lecturers are trying to round up everything they have this week. They know very well that once it passes this week, they might not be able to get a hold of the students again. It’s funny how many of us love coming to school, but we’re not as many who love to come to class.

Once the Student Week is over, we’d have no choice but to continue our studies on our own and begin to go through the notes and teachings given by the lecturers. So that when the exams begin, it won’t be a nightmare.

As always, I’m really hopeful for what the future might bring. I pray the exam doesn’t get postponed. I’d prefer we get done with it so we can move on with our lives. There are so many things I would love to do, just that my dear school keeps holding me back.

But it’s all good. I guess we’ll have to watch and see what the future unfolds for us all.
