Motivation Ain't Enough!!!

On a good day, it’s easy to get certain things done simply because you need to. I’ve come to realize that the worst thing that anyone can rely on to give themselves a reason to keep working and remain active is motivation. There is simply no universe in which this would end well for anyone involved.

All motivation does is get you psyched up in the initial process; you put in all your energy, and within a short period of time, you find yourself burning out. That’s how crazy it is. Sometimes, you don’t even need to go through any form of setback before you start backsliding. All you need to feel is the least bit of tiredness, and you’d see yourself stopping.

This is what we get when we choose to rely only on external forms of motivation, instead of the actual reason why we need to do what we need to do. If it’s to start exercising, motivation will get you nowhere. But then, focusing on the reason, which is to be healthy and to stay fit, will take you very far because there is no cap on fitness.

And then, another thing that we’d have to learn is that progress doesn’t ever feel good. It might look good to others; it might even look good to us when you look at it from the outside, but it’s not supposed to feel good. Because once we get to that point, we find ourselves finding the tiniest reasons to relax our guard and slow down a little bit. This is another way that motivation tricks you.

It makes you feel good in the short moment, when in fact, nothing has changed about your situation. You get this huge influx of dopamine, feeling like you’ve arrived when you’ve not even started your journey. And what do you get? The false sense of accomplishment. The relaxation that comes after a long day when you haven’t even done anything at all. So yeah, you see how dangerous it can be, right?

So, what am I trying to say? Motivation shouldn’t be the sole reason you get to do anything. You’d go nowhere and only end up wasting your time and energy. Nah, you need real, cogent reasons- those that will be strong enough to get you out of bed every single day to do what you have to do, regardless of how hard it might be. That’s what’s more important.

Because in the end, we need to do these things. We didn’t stay in school because we were motivated; we didn’t learn skills because we were motivated; neither did we save money because of motivation. We did these things simply because we had to do it and the opposite was a very bad place we didn’t want to be in.

So yeah… focus on the reasons and leave motivation alone!

It's easy to understand. To start we need motivation as a spark, but to continue, we need to be disciplined. It's because we need to be consistent if we want to achieve something as motivation may fade after some time.
