My School Disappointed Me!
The last twenty-four hours were quite eventful for me. Although I spent the majority of it being extremely pissed at myself and my school for something that neither of us had any control over.
You see, I believed that this week was our Student Week, and as per tradition, it would have been a lecture-free week because of all the student-based activities that would take place. I was so much looking forward to it because I knew that nothing in this world would have possessed me to get into the school.
I had so many things planned to do. I wanted to finish the second draft of my novel, something that school and work have been making hard for me to do. I also wanted to start making videos and start getting the hang of it. Again, school is another thing keeping me from all that. And then there are movies! Now that The Expendables 4 is out, I want to watch the first three installments again to remind myself about everything, so I can enjoy it better. But there’s just no time for that. Thanks to school!
So, you see how much I needed this lecture-free week? Sadly though, I was wrong! It turns out that it might be next week after all. So, we still have lectures for the whole of this week and for the life of me, I just can’t get my mind prepared for it.
It’s kind of my fault though, I never questioned why no one else was talking about Student Week, not in our group chat, or anywhere else. I just believed it, and I planned my week around that one belief. It didn’t change until late Monday morning when I got the alert from a course rep that we had a practical by noon and needed to turn up at once. And considering the lecturer is one of those who live to mark attendances, I knew I just had to get there!
All the while I was preparing and on my way, I just kept thinking it was a prank. Then, my coursemates who were already there posted pictures of the lecture going on, and I began to I’d be able to go home after the practical. After all, this is student week. I went on to attend the practical, I got there a bit late though, as expected.
To my shock, I found out that after the practical, we still had a theory class scheduled. That’s when I asked around and found out that this is not the Student Week! Which meant we were having all our usual courses and there would be no break. Somehow, that information ruined my mood for the rest of the day.
When the lecturer came and droned on about Internetworking Protocols and Subnets of the Wide Area Networks, all I could think of was that I didn’t want to be in that class. I thought of all the things I had lined up ready to achieve and now they looked like yet another week would go by and I won’t even touch them. So, I was mad.
Anyway, lectures ended in record time yesterday and I got home with time to spare and thankfully, I did a bit of work on my novel.
So, my dear friends, I did a lot of things in the last 24 hours, and going to school was one of them. Even though I would have preferred it not to be. Some days are like that, plans are made and in a jiffy, we have to just drop them so we can focus on other things. This is how achievements get delayed despite having the best schedules.
Still though, I’ll really try my best to work on my novel this week. I’ve gone through it more than halfway, and it doesn’t require much work anymore for what’s left to do. By the time I’m done with this and my editor gives me the go-ahead, it’ll be time to publish. But until then, I’ll still try to find out how much time I can squeeze open for this. I promised myself to publish the book this year, two months is all that’s left now. But I’m still hopeful I’ll hit that mark.
Even if it’s published on December 31st, 2023, by 11:58 pm, it would still be this year. And the goal would be achieved.
Fingers crossed! There’s so much to look forward to. And I sure hope that the Student Week that was denied me this week will be mine next week.
If not, the whole school go hear am!

Wow! you have indeed a hectic day and just seeing those math formulas on the white board already makes my head dizzy already. Got curious with the novel though. Will it be written in English or your native language and will it be available online or only on hard copy?
Anyways, have a good day and good luck for your novel.
Most school days are like that😂
Although the picture of that board is not recent. But it still speaks of what I face on a daily basis here...😢
The book is written in English and will be available online. I'm still hopeful I'll have it published this year.
Thank you very much for your kind words.
Wow! that was great! Maybe I would try to get a copy of your book when it was published.
That would be great.
Thank you.😊
Life is hard, it has the habit of giving you surprises, the way your school did. but I think we need to go with the flow, without expecting anything in return. You were expecting a lecture-free week and when you didn't get it. it made things hard for you.
Yeah... it just ruined my plans but there's nothing I can do about it but to turn up.
There's nothing else to do.
Yes, but hopefully you'll enjoy next week at fullest:)
Typical Nigerian school, I can relate. I always look forward to lecture-free week but I get sad when some crazy lecturers want to make use of that free time to lecture.
Stay hopeful and focused on your goals, and you will achieve your publishing goal this year. And as for Student Week, let's hope it's worth the wait when it finally comes around.
I just hope it comes quickly.
I'm not planning to even participate.😪
Work choke!!
You really trying. Schooling, being on hive, writing a book. It is a lot. Well-done Bruno
Thank you.😉
Hmmm! What a hectic day it has been for you. I can relate to this during my days at school.
Just be hopeful on your goals
Yeah...
I'll keep trying my best.😊
Wow
You are working on a novel right?
Have you also had a novel before now?
Yeah... I'm working on my novel.
It'll be the first one I'll be publishing.
Thank you.😉
Student week 🤔!!! I have never heard about it anytime 😅. I think many people don't know about it like me.
Hehe. You expected free time and opposite thing happened. I can understand your situation 😅 because I am also on the same boat 😅.
Student Week is that time when the School organizes a number of activites centered around the students. From Football Matches, Rag Days and other things and other fun events. So, since it's for students, it's vital that there're no lectures for the duration of the week.
Thankfully, it's optional to partake in the activities. Students like us just see it as a one-week holiday.
That's a very painful experience man.
My school had it lecture free week 2 weeks ago, now we are onto writing of exams. Hmmm!! Thank you, I almost forgot that Expandable 4 is out... I love movies like that.
If you have set your mind on writing, finishing and publishing your novel this year, then it is very possible. Our mind is powerful and has great effects on our lives.
