Journey to Parenthood

What do you see? -

What do you feel? -

Cooperation. The duo appear to be partners, either work colleagues or married couples, perhaps in a serious relationship. There is a sense of urgency in the way they move, they’re probably trying to meet a deadline.

A Short Story

Jason had just made his first turn out of the estate when he heard the noise, it sounded like metals clashing at each other while the car began to slow down losing all its momentum.

“Not today,” he said in a breath as he slammed the car door and went back again to open it making an “ARRRHH” as he opened the door again, raising the lever that controlled the bonnet.

As he got in front of the car however everything seemed nice except for the smell emanating from the engine block. Jason knew a little about cars but not enough to fix the current problem and so he locked the car and began to wave down taxis that drove by.

Meanwhile, back at home his wife Allison was struggling to check if the lines were two or one on the pregnancy test strip she had just peed on. After looking at the two faint lines for some time she concluded she’d go to the hospital and have a proper test.

So she got dressed for work and went out down the street to get a taxi. The couple had been having “baby issues“ as Allison’s mother termed it and it had gotten bad that they didn’t do much together anymore.

Jason was surprised to see Allison who had told him earlier that she wasn’t going to work until 3 pm and urged him to go so he won’t be late.
“Where are you going honey,” Jason asked,

“To work, something came up” he replied, and truly something did come up. The duo made their way to the next street hoping to get a taxi. Clad in black they both moved swiftly. Jason hurried to work, whilst Allison to the hospital and then to work.

They bid each other goodbye when Jason saw a bus heading to the part of the metropolis he was going to.

That evening as Allison spilled the news of her pregnancy Jason hugged her and promised to get a new car that she would use as he doesn’t want anything to happen to his son.

“How do you know it’s a boy,” Allison asked, to which Jason shrugged his shoulder and said he had dreamt about it. The duo started laughing as Allison told him she dreamt of a girl.
