The Weekend Horror Double Feature… Turn off your brain and enjoy.

(Edited)

I had a horror double bill on the weekend with two films released in 2021.

Spiral: From the Book of Saw
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It

These two films appeared out of nowhere for me. Several movies deep within their respected franchises. The ratings off Rotten Tomatoes at the time of viewing automatically made me want to watch these. The bigger the gap between the scores the more interested I become.

Sprial stars Chris Rock with an appearance of Samuel L Jackson as his father. Yes, that Chris Rock. Rock has a hilarious take on his views of Forrest Gump within the first 10 minutes. I did not expect this at all and had me laughing. The movie as a whole is pretty standard fair and is meh to me. The franchise appears to want a fresh start again given the ending of this one. I always liked the idea of these type of movies coming out around Halloween. Good or bad, make your choice.

Rotten Tomatoes: 37% critics rating 75% audience rating

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It is another entry in The Conjuring series. Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson are back as the Warrens doing their thing. I wasn't bored and enjoyed it more than Spiral. More possession/exorcism fare and it maintained my interest. These type of exorcism movies have taken on the "body twisting into unnatural positions" to the extreme. Ever since that spider walk deleted scene from The Exorcist was cut back into the film everybody seems to do something similar in theirs.

Rotten Tomatoes: 60% critics rating 83% audience rating

At this point, I'd like to see an in-depth documentary on the Warrens themselves. I'm unaware if there is one out there of any substance. The little bit I've seen about their lives leaves a lot to be desired.

Interesting that you like to explore the ones with a big spread between the public and critics. Do you tend to side with the audience or the critics?

I tend to side with the critics on the most part. They're usually a good barometer of the overall feel of a movie. I also avoid all reviews before I watch anything if possible. The Rotten Tomato scores are a great quick glance in determining if I want to watch something.

Let me help you a little. You need to add some tags I think, although too many are not good. Oh, the unspoken rules! What you are using isn't showing up in places. I try to look up tags if they are unusual to make sure they are used.

#life #neoxian #entertainment #review #horror

Yikes. I'm not going to the movies with you. Just saying. :) Horror worked okay, I just found it.

Yes I use "life" and "neoxian" (who is a good sized voter) all the time. Top tip Denise!

Does the ordering of the tags matter? First or last? I put in tags describing the content to the best of my ability, I feel like I'm missing big things like you mentioned.

I notice when I post things I can't tell if this stuff is getting any traction. Hours and hours pass without any interaction or maybe that's how it is here.

The interaction has been slow lately. In summer hours, people get out and enjoy the good weather. Some are now going back to work after telecommuting. I work long hours, so my time is limited. You name it.

And Hive is down, but, that changes and the more it goes up, the more posting goes on. I like the interaction myself. The money is a bonus. It matters what you post. Check out the tags. I clicked on yours and people will have a hard time finding them if they aren't used.

On another note, I play around with posting time to see what gets the most action. I usually schedule them as I am not around then. :)

Let me add that there is also a Movie community. It probably will be better if you post your reviews there :)

Haha I get you. I figured the tags would spill over into all these different sections. Lots to learn. Thanks

The tags do of course :)
But each community has their own moderators and/or curators. It not only puts your content among other alike, which helps users to browse and keeps topics sorted, but also helps you with the visibility of your post. Right now your post is only visible on your followers feed.
If you post in the community, it will additionally show on the community feed, so everyone that follows it (and not necessarily is your follower) will see it when they go check the feed there.
It is a win win :)

I thought I posted in the gems community? Perhaps I'm confusing my terms :)

Thanks for taking the time to explain this.

You did. Gems is very general though and all kinds of topics end up there. Nothing wrong with that as sometimes there is no community that will fit our posts.
But personally I think it is better to post in the thematic ones for above reasons.
Of course it is up to you where you feel comfortable posting :)

No problem :) Feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Very good information. On his first post or two I recommended Gems as a good starting place, however for film reviews I would join the fil community etc.

Thanks a bunch for helping the newbies 😁

It is always good to start somewhere and start looking around. I can only imagine how confusing it must be for newbies now.

My pleasure :)

Tks for the review info.. We've had the new Conjuring queued up for a while, but haven't gotten the time to sit and watch it yet.

Trying to find that 2 hours is becoming difficult. Busy, busy, busy. It was a fun ride.

Thanks for stopping by

I didn't know people went around showcasing people and their postings. Such a great idea!

Sure reblogging peoples posts is a way to bring content you like to the people that follow you. IOW @dswigle and I have reblogged your posts so people that follow us will then see it in their feed and on our page. 🙂 I
