A Tale of Two Hive Projects

It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. (1) A time of growth and a time of regression. It was a time of improvement and a time of stagnation. Two projects spearheaded by different individuals, whose future has yet to be written, will be watched with both curiosity and speculation.

The two projects I'm referring to are Disco Hedge and Bitcoin Backed Hive. By comparing and contrasting these two projects, I think we can gain valuable insight and lessons in how to analyze the potential success of any future projects we see start up on Hive. After all, when a crypto bull market is in full force, everyone is hustling and trying to get "a piece of the action." Some of these projects may be real winners, many will likely be duds, and some may toe the line between success and failure.

Disco Hedge
This project is run by @taskmanager. It currently operates as a tipping bot by using the !DHEDGE command. Those who own DHEDGE tokens get 1 upvote call per 100 DHEDGE held in their Hive Engine/Tribaldex wallet.

If you own and stake DHEDGE Vote Shares (DVS), then you get an upvote on your post according to how much you have staked.

Bitcoin Backed Hive
This project is run by @bradleyarrow. It operates as a tipping bot by allowing token holders to tip 1 BBH by using the !BBH command. If you hold at least 1,000 BBH, you can tip 1 BBH per day. If you hold 5,000, you can tip 5 BBH per day. Holding 20,000 BBH lets you tip 20 BBH per day, and holding 50,000 BBH lets you tip 50 BBH per day.

You also get drips. If you hold 5,000 you get SWAP.HIVE, ALIVE and CTP. If you hold 10,000 BBH or more you get drips of SWAP.HIVE, ALIVE, CTP and LEO.

Criteria for Success
For any project to be successful, a few things are needed: presence, communication, timeliness, and support.

Presence
If we compare Taskmanager and Bradleyarrow, we see that both have a presence on Hive. They can be contacted if there's an issue. Looking at their profiles, however, you can see that Taskmanager is largely absent for long periods of time. Bradleyarrow, however, is on Hive daily.

Communication
Things go wrong. New features roll out. There are a lot of variables and moving parts in projects. Even though things go wrong, keeping people updated on progress is key. You look at Taskmanager and it's largely silence for weeks or months at a time. Bradleyarrow is on Hive posting daily. If there's an issue, he's likely aware and has already posted about it.

Timeliness
This aspect is key to a project's success. Even with good communication, having a pattern of slow response times makes people lose confidence in a project's ability to succeed long term.

Taskmanager only provided a single update during the time HiveSQL was down, and that was far too late. Delegators had already pulled out because they weren't getting returns and there was no communication. Even after he realized what had happened and "fixed" the issue, he went silent again and the tipping bot stopped working, and hasn't worked for a few weeks now. Some of those who were still delegating advised they weren't getting payouts proportional to their delegation amount.

Oddly enough, while I was writing this post I went over to Bradleyarrow's post history and noticed he had mentioned switching nodes, so now only top level comments could be tipped using the !BBH command, which wasn't supposed to happen. He and I replied back and forth a bit and it finally worked, so we concluded it must've been a temporary node issue. I wasn't even aware of the issue until I read his post, but he was already working on the issue.

Support
Life happens. A one man show can run into trouble when life happens to them. Whether this has happened with Taskmanager is unknown. Maybe we'll find out a month from now. Maybe we won't.

Both Taskmanager and Bradleyarrow, to the best of my knowledge, run their respective projects by themselves. This is my biggest criticism for Hive projects. You need a competent team to be able to step in when life happens. @Raymondspeaks from the BRO project already has this in place in case anything should happen to him.

Picking A Winner
The contrast between these two projects is interesting. Both are, to my knowledge, run by one person. One has terrible communication, is unreliable and the future of the project is in question. The other provides consistent updates and has even added miners (BBHM) as an innovation to generate more BBH without being tipped by someone. Personally, my money is on BBH to succeed in the long run.

More Hive projects will be popping up as the crypto bull market reaches peak velocity. This example of comparing and contrasting, and being able to spot weaknesses in a project, is an exercise we all need to be familiar with and put into practice, to determine if investing our money and time in new projects is going to pay off in the long term or end up in disappointment.

Well, thank you 😊

Won't be a one man show forever. I will need a team. But that will come 😀

No problem. I'm sure it won't. As more people see the progress, they'll want to be a part of it. A lot of successful projects start with just one person. 🙂

dhedge adds one more trouble, their token dividen bots have been brokedown almost a week... Now my LEO, CTP, SLOTH and others token delegation to those bots do not get dhedge and dvs dividend. It seems soon I will withdraw all token delegation too, not only my HP which is already withdrawn.

I'm sorry. 😔

If I were you, I would pull the delegation and use Hive.Vote to create your own custom voting trail and follow the !LOL and HiQ and Waivio curation accounts, since they follow a lot of those same trails. The difference is you get ALL of the token rewards instead of having to pay a cut to someone else to curate for you.

BBH and DHedge....

I currently own I think 46 DHedge and none of BBH...

I'll build up on both I think...

Who knows, maybe if taskmaster comes back, he's coming back like Bob the Builder with a load of codes to whip the token back into shape...

By then the price would skyrocket...

Also, I need more tokens that drip hive...

Hence I'll start on BBH...

Thanks for this mate✨

Hopefully, he'll come back, but if he doesn't become more active and actually oversee his project, then history will repeat itself.

No problem!
