Monster Truck Mania!

My wife and I took our 5-year-old son to a monster truck show as a belated birthday present. He's always watching CGI monster truck videos on YouTube when he's at my mom's house. He has four different monster truck Lego sets, five or so different monster truck toys, and a remote control monster truck. To say he's obsessed is an understatement.

We got there an hour early to get a good parking spot. It's a good thing we did. He wanted to buy a toy version of his favorite monster truck, Zombie.

I waited around 25 minutes in line, just trying to get a pretzel, popcorn, and a couple of sodas. I got back to my seat just as the show was starting. At first, I thought the noise wouldn't be too bad since the engines didn't sound that loud. Silly me. They were just idling. As soon as I heard the engines rev up, I popped in my SureFire ear plugs, and all was good.

Big Air
I was seriously impressed with how much air these monster trucks could get from just a short run. Apparently, they run on methanol and have a crazy amount of torque to be able to pull everything off.

This one is called Grave Digger.

This one is called El Toro Loco.

This one is Zombie, my son's favorite.

Donuts
It was fun watching them do donuts. The scoring was all done by the crowd using a QR code.

This one is called Soldier Fortune.

Freestyle
The Freestyle session was my favorite. This gave the drivers of each truck the freedom to do anything they wanted in an effort to rack up as many points as possible.

Surprisingly, El Toro Loco didn't lose its balance pulling this off.

Zombie stole the show by pulling off a backflip!

I was surprised the decorative shell survived the flip.

This one is called Megalodon. Not only did they balance perfectly upright on their front tires, but they even drove forward like this about four or five feet!

Accidents Happen
With all the tricks and stunts, accidents are bound to happen.

This one is called Thunderoarus.

Hopefully, the shell can be easily reattached. It didn't appear to be in bad shape when they removed it from the arena.

Soldier Fortune managed to flip completely upside down and had to be slowly tipped back over. Fortunately, it didn't sustain any damage and was good to go.

My son had a lot of fun watching monster trucks in person. I do think he was slightly disappointed that they didn't perform the tricks he's used to seeing in the CGI YouTube videos, but that's life. What we see on a screen is typically not what reality looks like, but in this case, it was still very fun! We'll likely go again, and in a few years, our two-year-old can join us and experience all the mayhem and fun!

They toured here a few years back, the monster jam thing, and I went along not knowing whether it'd be any good or not and I had a great time indeed. I'm not sure if I'd go back all the time, annually, but I will definitely go see it again, I'd like to take my nephew actually, he'd be blown away.

I agree, I don't think I'd do it annually, but at least every few years or so. I can't imagine my oldest son will be this obsessed with monster trucks in a few years.

It's been a while since I've been to one of these. In fact when I went they also had a mud bog event. Looks like a good time, great snaps too!

A mud bog sounds like a lot of fun! We'll probably go again in a few years, once our two-year-old is a bit older.

Thanks! I got lucky on a few of them with phone's camera. 😁

I have seen many with shark fins, jaws, horns, fangs, wings but this is the first time I see a car with those hands decoration. No wonder your son loves that zombie truck!!

Yeah, Zombie was definitely the crowd favorite. They even played the Thriller song whenever he came out, and the driver made zombie hand motions to add to the fun. 😁

I went to a tractor pull as a kid and they had some monster trucks there as well. Back when the original Big Foot was out.

Great gift for your son, even if it wasn't what he thought, but one thing is reality and another is what Youtube sometimes shows us, those car turns must have been incredible and to see one of them flip over is priceless. Happy weekend, greetings

Thanks! He still enjoyed it. He's still been talking about it a day later, so it was still a big success.

Have a great weekend! 😁

I bet he loved that! That looks like it was a lot of fun. I haven't gone to one of those in probably 30 years now!

I'll bet he'd love it. Just make sure you both bring hearing protection. It is super loud without them!
