Pokémon Card DIY Heat Press Fail

I recently got into restoring Pokémon cards for me and my sons' collections. It's cheaper to restore a card to good condition than it is to buy them in excellent condition from the start.

To my annoyance, my attempts to do it without an actual heat press failed.

I started with an inexpensive Hitmonchan card as a test. Notice it's already very flat. For cards that have a bend or curve, the heat press method flattens them out.

I removed the card after my test and it ended up with a bend in it.

I found out the reason for this is because even though I had a 15lb weight holding the acrylic plates down, the plates still managed to warp in the cooling process.

Fortunately, the plates are inexpensive so I ordered two more sets. I also begrudgingly ordered the professional heat press so the next time I do this the press will keep the flates locked flat, and unable to warp as they and the card cool down. I should be able to use the press to get the warped plates back into shape. Now I just need to find a space to dedicate to the press. 🤦‍♂️
