Saving on Gas with Credit Card Rewards

I'm generally a frugal person. I shop the clearance sections in stores and online. My favorite new hoodie was $20-30 brand new, and I got it for $7, brand new. I'll wait for more expensive items to go on sale before buying them. Everything has become expensive due to inflation, so being able to save anywhere I can is helpful.

Credit Card Rewards
One thing I hadn't paid as much attention to is credit card rewards. I knew many of them offered gift cards or cash back in exchange for points. Some offer rewards for eating out, which many of us have cut back on these days. I never really took the time to fully research my card rewards.

Cheaper Gas
The price of gas has gone crazy. We know who's to blame for that and inflation, so we'll just leave it there and not get lost in the weeds. I went to fill up one day and swiped my Citi card that supports "Thank You" points. An extra screen popped up asking me if I wanted to use rewards points to save up to $0.50/gallon off gas using 1250 rewards points. I had no clue that was even a card perk!

I thought I'd give it a shot and hit "Yes." Sure enough, it dropped the price of gas $0.50/gallon!

After

The Savings Add Up
While the savings may not seem significant, I certainly won't turn them down. I miss the days when gas was under $2/gallon here, but until this incompetent "administration" is out, we're stuck saving wherever we can, trying to make our money go as far as it can, despite being able to buy 30-40% less than what we could get just 4-5 years ago.

Don't Miss Out
Until those former glory days return, be sure to take a closer look at what rewards your credit card offers. Your local credit union may have special perks through their debit or credit card, or special discounts available only to members.

In the same way you see people saving money by clipping coupons, with a little more research we could all possibly save an extra $50-100 per month for putting in a couple hours of our time researching. While that isn't an eye popping amount of money, every little bit helps. And for me, that's money I can put into gold and silver. 🤑

Is there a perk, reward, saving method or something else you've been doing to keep more of that money in your pocket each month?

Oh come on now, you said you weren't going to get lost in the weeds. Everyone knows the high price of gas is Trumps fault. It's clear as day. That vile piece of trash set us up for failure.

:)

We always complain about the price of gas no matter who is in charge. It's been that way since I was a kid. Even when gas was under $1 they complained about the price. I don't think any of them really have our best interests at heart. I stand by the vile piece of trash comment though.

I didn't get lost. I skirted the weeds and remained focused on the main point of saving. 😜

True, I can't remember a time when people weren't complaining about the price of gas. I always said people would riot if it ever got to $4, but clearly, I grossly overestimated people.

I agree, I don't think any politician has our best interests at heart. I'd be in favor of a "strike one, strike two, then you get the gallows" approach. !LOL

That would definitely be interesting. I think this is the first year ever that I will probably vote third party. I am not happy with any of the options right now. I need to learn more about the non traditional candidates first though. I don't want to go in blind.

I hear you. I'm not one to normally abstain from voting, but it's very tempting these days.

You're fooling yourself if you think that should the opposition wins that the price of gas will go down. But in fairness to them, even should an administration have that as a honest goal (and not just a lie to get them elected), I doubt it would be possible for them to do it. Temporarily, maybe, but not long-term. The entire works are just too complex to allow that to happen. Then again, doing so temporarily, even if that would only be a few weeks, would get them political points which is all that really matters to politicians in this game.

At any rate, that's really cool that you got a discount like that. I've been hearing rumblings of credit card rewards going away due to complaints from small businesses (then again, this same "rumor" has been going around for years), but while they are here we need to take advantage!
