Using Hive.Vote to Manage Your Curation

Life gets busy and sometimes I miss a new post from someone I follow. I may or may not remember to go back and read and upvote their post. I don't like to overlook sharing in my friends' lives and experiences. I also don't like letting my Hive Power sit idly when I could be growing it and upvoting great content.

(Created with Bing)

Hive.Vote helps simplify some of this by automating as much or as little of your curation as you'd like. You can choose to follow pre-made curation trails others have made, or you can set it to "Fanbase" and choose individuals you want to upvote. You can set limits to a scaled or fixed percentage weight, how many posts per week and per day to upvote, how low you're willing to let your mana go down before it pauses and allows it time to recharge, etc. Sounds pretty good, right? Here's how to do it!

Getting Started
You’ll want to do this in Keychain to make things easier. Use Keychain's browser to go to hive.vote. You’ll see this main page. At the bottom you'll be presented with an option to log in / register. Click the button.

Next, you'll see this.

Use your private Active key to sign in. Then you'll see this.

Click the "Hivesigner (recommended)" button. It'll take you to this screen.

Click "Authorize". Now you'll be returned to the main screen and see this.

From here you can do a few things. The main things I use are Curation Trail and Fanbase. Before you go into those options, make sure you check your main settings. Your mana can fully recharge from 80% to 100% in 24 hours, so I set my threshold for 80% so it will pause my voting if it hits this or dips below it.

Curation Trail
This lets you search for existing curation trails and follow them, so your account votes any posts the trail upvotes. For instance, if I type in "hive-193566" it will pull up the Hive Onboarding Committee trail. Any posts the community account upvotes, I can set it to upvote those as well.

Now I'll click the "Follow" button.

Now it'll ask you for your preferred settings.

If you set scaled vote weight, the percentage of your vote will be based on a percentage of the original upvote that started the curation trail. If you choose a fixed percentage, your account will vote that amount every single time. You can set it to upvote the comments as well, and even set a time delay if you'd like.

Fanbase
This feature is fairly straightforward. You put in a username and click "Follow." The difference here is you can have settings set for each individual person, or you can "Select All" and apply the same settings to everyone. You can even customize a maximum weekly and daily number of upvotes to give per person.

Final Thoughts
It took a little bit of experimenting to see how things went with different curation trails and my mana. This helps me make sure I'm upvoting my friends, even if I miss a chance to leave a comment or miss the post completely because life decided to throw a curveball at me. It ensures I'm curating effectively and can tailor it to who I want. I highly recommend giving it a try and see how it works for you.

Some of the bigger accounts on Hive don't like automatic curation. You won't get DVed for doing it as far as I know, but they frown on it.

I know what you mean about missing people you follow and feeling bad about that. I think I've made my peace with missing some, but I do try to read all of them when time allows.

I think it comes down to time. When i had free time all of my votes were part of my manual curation. Because though, through the many years i am in Hive, i have discovered some people that i really like their content and want to support them even when i don't have the time. Not that my 1-2 cents would make any difference but it's something!

So i have some set autovotes to 5-6 people if i remember correctly and when i have the time i may curate manually from 1 to 15 different authors! If someone has the time ofc manual curation is always the best but if not i would prefer setting some upvotes instead of missing curating.

Some people really need those upvotes not particularly for the money aspect, because most are worth a couple of cents either way. They want to feel that their content is recognised and it's always nice to see a familiar "face" that you may have interacted, supporting you!

I have used its service before which is nice if you want to make a good use of your voting power, mostly when you are away, and could not do any activities on Hive.
But for now, I tend to use manual curation, yes I do miss some of my favourite author, but there are something that encourages me to check on hive, which is curating other.

Great explanation my friend,

I wouldn't recommend blindly repeating negative votes, especially for newbies.
This function is more useful & profitable for curators, or those who do not have the opportunity to curate themselves.
But it is possible in this case to effectively delegate your hive power to a trusted unbiased curator, Some of them even pay a portion of the rewards received from using you delegation....
In any case, this path does not lead to success and popularity of the hive, I know because I use it myself😆

It's certainly not for newbies, but that I think depends on your grasp of how things work. I'm still a newbie as I've only been on Hive a little over four months, but it has helped me.

I have 2 kids under six, so I don't always have time to sit and enjoy going through multiple posts for a couple of hours.

I agree that it is sometimes convenient and I use it myself.
but when I go to read interesting articles - I have nothing to vote for them, all the power is spent not me))))))

It is worse to become an unwitting participant in someone's quarrels by supporting an unchecked downvote.
