A Good Person to Me

Who is a good person?

It is a tricky question because being a good person means different things to different people.

To some, a good person is someone generous, someone who showed up when they needed help the most.

To others, it is someone who listens. Someone who gives them a safe space to pour out their heart without judgment.

For someone else, it is the person who stands up for them when no one else will. And to another, it is the one who stays through the difficult seasons instead of walking away when life gets uncomfortable.

But here is the thing: someone’s angel can be another person’s devil.

The same person who has been incredibly kind to you may have hurt someone else. We all experience people differently, which is why defining a good person isn’t as simple as it seems.

If you asked me who a good person is, my answer would be this:

A good person is someone who won’t use your vulnerabilities against you when the relationship changes. Someone who won’t betray your trust. Someone who doesn’t disappear the moment life gets hard. Someone who has empathy, someone who tries to put themselves in another person’s shoes before acting.

I have good people in my life.

My family are good people to me because they have always been ready to defend me when I needed them. I have supportive friends who are willing to help whenever I need it. I have parents who protected, cared for, and stood by me when I was at my most vulnerable.

To me, these are good people.

They may not be the good person in someone else’s story, and that is okay. People experience the same person differently. What makes someone a good person to one individual may not be what makes them good to another.

In the end, perhaps being a good person isn’t about being seen as good by everyone. It is about the impact you have on the lives you touch and the kindness, loyalty, empathy, and love you consistently show to the people around you.
