Life in a public school

source

I have attended both private and public schools, I went to private school from kindergarten till I finished my primary 6 education, then I went to public school in jss1 but changed back to private again when I was in jss 2 and eventually went back to public school in senior secondary school 1 till 3 and yea I graduated from a public school...

In my opinion, I would prefer a public school to a private school, most private schools employ people who are not qualified for the position they are being placed because the proprietor/proprietress does not want to pay huge salary and this affect no one but the student....

In private schools, you can't really know how brilliant you are due to less student in the school, most private schools in Nigeria have less than 20 student in a class and the most brilliant can be an average student when he goes to a public school...

During my time in private school, class 2 in junior secondary school, one of my friend is the most brilliant of us all and he top the class often but after junior secondary school, we attended the same public secondary school and things changed, we met more brilliant students, he could no longer top, he is now among the average student, i was not topping in private school but at least i was recognised as a brilliant student and in public school, i was still recognised though i didn't top anything lol...

So public school help you to discover more about your potential bookwise...

Another thing about public school is that they gave us free text books back then unlike private schools that you need to pay for everything including the air you breathe in...

Most people do say, public school teachers joke with their work, this is not always true! I could remember none of my teachers back then for the 9 subject i offered joke with their work, we always pray they should not have time to come to the class but these people are so much dedicated to their work especially the physics teacher, not even a storm can stop him from attending his class....

One disadvantage of public school is the freedom it offers to student, no one cares if you skip class in a public school, if you are not careful you might lose yourself, once you start having too many friends and care less about your book, it will affect you academically, this happened to me in my junior class and that was why I was taken back to a private school in jss2.. Let me gist you😁

I attended Adeola Odutola college in ijebu ode for my jss 1 class, the first term, I took the first position out of 89 students in a class and coupled with the fact I didn't start the term with them, as i joined after 4 weeks gone, this made me popular immediately, most want to play with the brilliant boy, this got to my head as i started rolling with the boys that only loves to play lol..

The second term, my position dropped to 23rd, hehehe from first position, as if that was not enough, the third term it dropped more and my family were not impressed with my result and they know it is because i didn't focus on my studies anymore and that was how they remove me from there and took me back to private school😁...

The same thing could have happen when i went back to public school in ss1, my first day in the class, i was already answering questions thrown by the teachers and the students be like efiko is among them lol, but this time i didn't let what happen in junior school happened, i rolled with the brilliant student instead and we do brain storm, i played too but i didn't over do it, i know when to read and when to play and when to do other stuffs as well...

I would also choose a public school, even though I don't want to pick any. Books are free, and teachers don't require you to spend on projects, unlike in private schools. (I'll try to write a post about why I don't pick any in the future.) Yeah, you're right, in a public school, not all teachers will care if you're absent because there are so many students (unless you belong to the top 5 students, I think).

you don't want to pick any? does this mean you were never interested in schooling?

I value education highly, but not in lower and middle school. I believe the curriculum is outdated and wastes valuable time. I think five years is enough time to prepare someone for college.

Yeah. There are lots of disadvantages in public schools just like you mentioned one to be freedom given to students to do as they like. But the government can stop that by fencing the school and putting security men at the gate.
Thanks for sharing.

Public schools are very much better than the private ones and they are highly recognized than private.
The only thing is that most of those children don't have good behaviors

In my view, public schools are better than private schools in many aspects. Private schools are too niched sometimes and they somehow fall short on delivering quality service. I also attended both and I enjoyed it more in public school :)

Yes, there are few. It would've been a bad reputation for private schools if there weren't any.

You are right, brilliant students are many in public schools because teacher's there are well trained before employment, it is a good thing to have an experience of both private and public school, public schools need more supervision, so that to be able to check on the performances of each students.

Yes I agree with your points about the quality of education in most private schools, however I think the quality of education in a private school is always set by the owner of the school. I know some that wouldn't want to jeopardize the quality of education for Money.

the reason why people invest in school is to make profit, so most private school falls in this category but like you said, we still have some good and standard private schools

Well, like they say, different strokes for different folks. I very much agree that some private schools might employ unqualified people but that is because the foundation is substandard and even the government should never allow that to even start in the first place.

But a standard private school, which not many people can afford, is usually one that produces students that performs excellently well across external exams especially.

Now, this is not to downplay the fact that some public schools bountifully funded by the government or other bodies also compete side by side with those from private schools.

if you look around your city and street, you will see so many private schools right? and most are substandard, so that standard one you talking about is very rare, like 2 in every 50 private school

Here in Pakistan, there is a saying that if a child is interested, he studies in a government school as well, and the way he does there professors are highly educated. Now it depends on the children whether they want to read from them or not. I also think that these schools are better because the education here is good if the child is a student.
