The Hidden Distraction of Smartphones

Most people are now addicted to their smartphones and believe life would be boring without them…

Most things can now be done through our phones, such as having fun, making money, building relationships, communicating with loved ones, and so much more. Because of this, it has become hard to let go of that lifestyle.

But do we ever sit down and think about what we are missing out on because of our mobile phones?

As much as smartphones have advantages, they also come with disadvantages because many of us can no longer focus properly when our phones are around.

It has affected students a lot because many can’t even read for 10 minutes without getting distracted by social media messages, notifications, or random updates.

I can still remember back in 2008, when smartphones were not so common, or should I say, when many people were not using them yet. One day, I was bored and decided to read the entire Old Testament in the Bible. I spent days reading it and genuinely enjoyed the stories in it.

Something like that feels almost impossible now because of smartphone distractions. One notification, one message, or one random video will surely come up and take our attention away.

Life without smartphones encouraged more physical interaction. Back then, I spent most of my time outside playing football on the pitch with friends, playing video games together, and just sitting around gisting about random things.

Those moments felt more real because people were actually present with each other.

Nowadays, things like that are no longer so common because almost everyone is busy pressing their smartphones. Even when people are together physically, their attention is somewhere else online.

Now I understand why my father loved going out to drink and spend time with his friends. Back then, socializing was one of the main ways people relaxed, cleared their minds, and escaped stress.

If we were to go back to life without smartphones, I would probably spend more time with my family and a few close friends.

Socializing is necessary for our mental well-being. Human beings are not meant to stay isolated behind screens all the time. Sometimes, real conversations, laughter, outdoor activities, and spending time with people physically can do more for the mind than hours on a phone.

Even without smartphone I would not go outside for playing because I didn't do it even in the past also. The one thing could happen with that smartphone for me and he could be reading books.

I think for many people it's mostly a gateway to their means of making money, if means of money making is taken away I probably won't see a lot of use for big phones

Many people were already using it before social media was monetized, so we will still have many people using it including us ….

We were all on 2go back then with our phones and we were not earning on it ..
