When Work Doesn't Take Away Family

There is nothing I love more than working from home. It gives me the time I need to focus on both my work and my family without one getting in the way of the other.

I get to work at my own pace while still having enough time to spend with my wife and son. The joy of being home every day, watching Ryan grow right before my eyes, is something I wouldn’t trade for anything. It makes me genuinely happy.

I don’t mind working long hours as long as the pay matches the effort. Recently, I landed a job called Atlas Capture, which involves training AI models. I quit during the training phase because I quickly realized the workload wasn’t worth the pay.

It wasn’t just about the money; the work itself was mentally exhausting. I spent nearly two hours completing a single AI training task. During the onboarding sessions, the coach said each video would take around five minutes to complete, but that wasn’t my experience at all. Once the AI performs multiple actions in a single video, reviewing and annotating everything becomes much more complicated. Even after spending hours on one task, there is still a chance you will make mistakes.

Imagine putting in that much mental effort every day only to earn less than $20 by the end of the month. Even if the pay were a bit higher, I still don’t think it is the kind of work I would want to do long-term. It simply isn’t for me.

These days, I have more time than work on my hands. Unlike last year, when I barely had time to watch a movie, I have watched quite a few this year. I guess that is one of the realities of being jobless: you suddenly have plenty of time for the things you enjoy.

Still, even when work was overwhelming, it never really felt like work because I loved what I was doing. More importantly, it never stopped me from giving my family the attention they deserved.

It is all good here. One step at a time.

I can't remember if it was Atlas capture that I did, but I remember that I also did one too. I spent over 4 days trying to understand how it works spend even more days getting to do the training, only for them not to even give me tasks to start with, so I spent almost a week with all that effort wasted

Just imagine: I see that sign with the Atlas capture, which was why I quit early. There is easy AI training, but as usual, they are gatekeeping those and only bring out the hard ones to the public...
