So yeah, we have to talk about Rockstar and their remasterings (a critique on recycling Games)

GTA San Andreas is nothing less than one of the most memorable games that has ever existed in the gaming world. Who hasn’t played this masterpiece and appreciated the importance of a free roam world in games of this style?

Rockstar Games has managed to create a masterpiece with this series of games and has shown its mastery to hook a player for a very long time. In my opinion, GTA San Andreas was the best exemplification of what a Free Roam game should be and also the best exemplification of how a game should actually look like, something completely ahead of its time.

But my post is not specifically about San Andreas, it’s specifically about a project that Rockstar Games has announced and that has been talked about a ton in the last week. Is it really a good choice? Is it really a good strategy? I’ll give my opinion regarding this in this post.

A way to recycle money?

I don’t think so. I have heard many, many comments where they say that this is a mere way to simply make money from finished products, isn’t this a dirty strategy to make money? I don’t see it that way.

Currently there are many people who continue to play this series of games, either to remember nostalgic moments, to recreate the story again or simply to complete achievements in these games, such as passing GTA San Andreas without using cheats.

Improved graphics and changed gameplay

This is what these remasters are all about. A re-staging of these games that intend to re-immerse players in the stories born in Liberty City, San Andreas and Vice City. Among the most notable changes, it has been mentioned how they want to change the overall gameplay and game experience. Virtual worlds that allow the player to feel that they have a second life and a second character that they can control at will, having interpersonal relationships as real as possible, while at the same time the in-game acquisitions themselves also feel like achievements that you would have in real life.

This goal doesn’t seem entirely wrong to me, in fact, at the same time this trilogy was announced there was also talk of the possibility of a GTA San Andreas in the Oculus world.

Do you have any idea how important a game like GTA San Andreas would be for Virtual Reality technology?

A game like GTA San Andreas is the perfect exemplification of virtual reality. Can you imagine having a city as big as San Andreas and being able to travel in it as if it were real life? Crossing the bridge to San Fierro with total freedom? Or driving the jet obtained with the JumpJet key? The options are endless and this, in my opinion, would be one of the greatest virtual reality projects that could exist up to this moment.

I’m impressed with how far video games are coming.

Back to the trilogy

I think this project is actually a very good thing for the series. There are a lot of gamers who have a certain fondness for these games because I was born in the right era where these games had their heyday. It’s definitely a perfect strategy that will get gamers’ attention again, and could this be the opportunity to announce a GTA VI in the near future?

Ultimately, the reception of this project will determine its future. In my opinion I feel that this has been a very good move on the part of Rockstar Games and they are undoubtedly bringing their name back to the video game market.

Certainly there are many games that became icons that no matter how much time passes will continue to bring back good memories, so why not improve them a bit for all of us who enjoy them? I love Rockstar games, deep down there is a lot of wanting to make money in any way, but in these cases, it doesn't matter much in my opinion... unless it's Bully, for God's sake, give me my Bully 2, a prequel, something that has to do with that world, I need it.
