Casa de Muñecas || Dolls House

En Venezuela casi todo se celebra, casi todo es un hito y los venezolanos que triunfan son motivo de orgullo nacional. También en Venezuela existe una hermosa tradición de muñequería, las artesanas (y artesanos) fabrican juguetes no para el deleite de los niños, sino para rendir tributo a esos venezolanos que destacan.

Recientemente hubo una exposición de Caracas, donde el eje central de la muestra eran las muñecas de trapo, asistí y además me enteré que existen diversas técnicas para elaborarlas... y creo que voy a hacer una también... aunque un poco más industrializada, la haré con máquina de coser.

In Venezuela almost everything is celebrated, almost everything is a milestone and successful Venezuelans are a source of national pride. Also in Venezuela there is a beautiful tradition of dolls, craftswomen (and craftsmen) make toys not for the delight of children, but to pay tribute to those Venezuelans who stand out.

Recently there was an exhibition in Caracas, where the central axis of the show were the rag dolls, I attended and I also found out that there are several techniques to make them... and I think I'm going to make one too... although a little more industrialized, I will make it with a sewing machine.

La primera muñeca de arriba (Imagen de portada) es en honor a Zandra Rodríguez, la maravillosa bailarina holística y cuántica que tantos suspiros produjo con sus saltos vertiginosos y su elegancia al danzar. Ella es una heroína particular para Venezuela, un país de bailadores.

Más cerca, acá antes de estas líneas tenemos otra bailarina, igual de elegante, pero mucho más cercana a nuestro imaginario, es Yolanda Moreno, la que reinventó el baile popular venezolano, con el vuelo de su falda realizó una clara alegoría a la flor nacional, la Orquídea, no se si intencional o no.

También está Yulimar Rojas, que tiene más muñecas en su honor, una de las cuales está representada con ese modo realista (al estilo de la primera y la segunda), como la atleta venezolana ha cosechado tantos éxitos últimamente, su club de fans ha crecido notablemente también.

No todas las muñecas tienen que rendir algún homenaje, también están las que fueron elaborados en base a la gracia, a los mitos y las leyendas, se afincan en el acervo y no tienen que ver con tributos sino con la memoria de los genes. Recuerdo la muñeca de trapo que me regalaron en mi infancia, yo la odiaba, no me gustaba, primero porque tenía el cabello amarillo, y después porque una de sus piernas estaba volteada y su pie miraba para atrás.

Todos me dijeron que esa precisamente era la gracia de la muñeca... y a mi no me daba risa.

The first doll above (cover image) is in honor of Zandra Rodriguez, the wonderful holistic and quantum dancer who produced so many sighs with her vertiginous leaps and her elegance in dancing. She is a particular heroine for Venezuela, a country of dancers.

Closer, here before these lines we have another dancer, equally elegant, but much closer to our imaginary, is Yolanda Moreno, who reinvented the Venezuelan popular dance, with the flight of her skirt made a clear allegory to the national flower, the Orchid, I do not know if intentional or not.

There is also Yulimar Rojas, who has more dolls in her honor, one of which is represented in that realistic way (in the style of the first and the second), as the Venezuelan athlete has been so successful lately, her fan club has grown notably as well.

Not all dolls have to pay some tribute, there are also those that were elaborated based on grace, myths and legends, they are rooted in the heritage and have to do not with tributes but with the memory of the genes. I remember the rag doll I was given in my childhood, I hated it, I did not like it, first because it had yellow hair, and then because one of its legs was upside down and its foot looked backwards.

Everyone told me that that was precisely the doll's funny side... and I didn't laugh at it.

Este homenaje que se le rindió a las muñequeras, a los artesanos del juguete, fue muy emotivo. Cada quién (menos yo) llevó su propia muñeca y las bautizaron con papelillos de seda. Un experimento que quise probar de pequeña y que siempre resultó un desastre.

Una vez tuve una muñeca de plástico rígido, tenía articulaciones y se le podía quitar la cabeza, a mis cuatro años era de mi tamaño, si tomaba sus manos ella caminaba conmigo, mi terror llegó cuando comencé a crecer y noté como ella se estaba quedando pequeña, entendí entonces lo que los adultos decían: --si no comes no creces, entonces extraje su cabeza y comencé a alimentarla por el hueco del cuello. El pequeño almacén donde guardaba mis juguetes debajo de la escalera, comenzó a oler mal pronto.

This tribute paid to the dolls, to the toy artisans, was very emotional. Everyone (except me) brought their own doll and baptized them with tissue paper. An experiment I wanted to try as a child and it always turned out to be a disaster.

Once I had a rigid plastic doll, she had joints and you could take her head off, when I was four years old she was my size, if I took her hands she walked with me, my terror came when I started to grow and I noticed how she was getting smaller, I understood then what adults said: -if you don't eat you don't grow, so I took her head out and started to feed her through the hole in her neck. The small storage room where I kept my toys under the stairs soon started to smell bad.

Los fanáticos siempre dan miedo, pero los fanáticos de las muñecas de trapo no tanto, imagino que conservan su niño interior a salvo de la vista de los adultos, yo me siento un poco parte de esta secta, también soy coleccionista de juguetes y si, hay varias muñecas de trapo.

Fanatics are always scary, but rag doll fanatics not so much, I imagine they keep their inner child safe from adult view, I feel a bit part of this cult, I am also a toy collector and yes, there are several rag dolls.
