A few weeks ago I accompanied my mother to a jewelry store that she insisted was in a hole, as she has already shown signs of insanity regarding directions and location of things, I told her that there was no hole on that street and invited her to ask for the services of another jewelry store on the same block.

Another day, while walking, again with my mom, down the same street, she found the hole. But it wasn't a hole, it was a strange entrance to a parking lot. She wanted to go in and check the price of the service she had been given at the previous jewelry store, she came out very disappointed that she had been charged $2 more. I, on the other hand, was shocked at what opened up before my eyes.

It was a parking lot, very strange, the roof was curved and it was an inverted slope, that is, it did not go down from the entrance, as a normal parking lot would be, but the bottom was higher than the entrance. Then I deduced that it was a movie theater.

Hace unas semanas acompañe a mi madre a una joyería que ella insistía que quedaba en un hueco, como ella ya ha mostrado signos de locura con respecto a las direcciones y ubicación de las cosas, le dije que no había ningún hueco en esa calle y la invité a solicitar los servicios de otra joyería en la misma cuadra.

Otro día, mientras caminaba, otra vez con mi mamá, por la misma calle, ella encontró el hueco. Pero no era un hueco, era una extraña entrada a un estacionamiento. Ella quiso entrar y verificar el precio del servicio que le había prestado en la joyería anterior, salió muy decepcionada que le hubiesen cobrado $2 más. En cambio yo quedé impactada con lo que se abrió ante mis ojos.

Era un estacionamiento, muy extraño, el techo era curvo y era una pendiente invertida, es decir, no bajaba desde la entrada, como sería un estacionamiento normal, sino que el fondo estaba más alto que la entrada. Entonces deduje que era un cine.

As I did not have the equipment to take pictures I promised to return and make a record of what I had just witnessed. In Caracas many old movie theaters from the 50's and 60's were remodeled to fulfill other functions. Thus we see beautiful movie theaters that are now mechanic workshops, or churches of religions of dubious origin. The workshops have kept their facades intact, but the churches have created a carnival of gold glitter and mirrors, killing the architectural legacy of the place.

The next time I approached the place, this time armed to take pictures, we were not allowed to enter the place, a very bitter old man closed the way and we had to turn back. But as the saying goes, third time's the charm, the third time I convinced my mother to go back and put a ring on a charm that she had lost.

Como no disponía de equipo para tomar fotografías prometí volver y hacer un registro de lo que acababa de presenciar. En Caracas muchos cines antiguos, de la década de los 50' y 60' fueron remodelados para cumplir otras funciones. Así vemos hermosos cines que ahora son talleres mecánicos, o iglesias de religiones de dudosa procedencia. Los talleres han conservado intactas las fachadas, pero las iglesias hay creado un carnaval de brillo dorado y espejos, matando el legado arquitectónico del lugar.

La siguiente vez que me acerqué al lugar, esta vez armada para tomar fotos, no nos dejaron entrar al lugar, un viejito muy amargado nos cerró el paso y tuvimos que dar marcha atrás. Pero como dice el dicho, a la tercera va la vencida, la tercera vez convencí a mi madre para volver y colocarle una argolla a un dije que la había perdido.

Something is hidden in this place, because although I was able to take pictures, a man with an intense smell of cigarette butts told me that you could not take pictures in that place, I do not understand why, since it is a public place, but he had already committed the crime and took pictures of the interior.

Despite how hidden and gloomy it looks from the outside, the interior is spectacular. It still preserves some vestiges of its glorious past.

Algo ocultan en este lugar, porque a pesar de que pude tomar las fotos, un señor con un intenso olor a colillas de cigarro me dijo que no se podían tomar fotos en ese lugar, no entiendo el por qué, ya que es un lugar público, pero ya había cometido el crimen y tomado las fotos del interior.

A pesar de lo escondido y lúgubre que se muestra desde afuera, el interior es espectacular. Aún conserva algunos vestigios de su glorioso pasado.

The movie theaters at that time were very beautiful, had a lot of art displayed, although the walls are painted with house facades, it is seen that these are more recent and have no comparison with the sculptural reliefs that adorn the highest part of the same walls.

The truth is that the whole environment, although not abandoned, is in a deplorable state. With a lot of garbage and a smell that I can not discover. It is still very gratifying to find a little bit of history in this place, that although I had walked many times by the front, I never noticed its existence.

Las salas de cine en aquella época eran muy hermosas, tenía mucho arte desplegado, aunque las paredes están pintadas con fachadas de casa, se ve que estas son más recientes y que no tienen comparación con los relieves escultóricos que adornan la parte más alta de las mismas paredes.

Lo cierto es que todo el entorno, aunque no está abandonado, se encuentra en un estado deplorable. Con mucha basura y un olor que no logro descubrir. Igual es muy gratificante encontrar un poquito de historia en este lugar, que aunque había paseado muchas veces por el frente, jamás me percaté de su existencia.

The area destined to buy tickets for the cinema entrance was assaulted by one of these churches I told you about before, it has the doors half open, and there is always someone sitting at the door. but you can appreciate the display of glitter and mirrors that makes you dizzy where the box office would go.

To understand that this invasion was part of the cinema, I had to see old photos, like the tweet I shared above. Anyway, it's a very curious place. And I would love to have some kind of super power to rescue the reliefs and some other jewels that must hide inside, this parking lot.

La zona destinada a comprar los boletos de la entrada del cine fue asaltada por una de estas iglesias de las que les hablé antes, tiene las puertas a medio abrir, y siempre hay alguien sentado en la puerta. pero se puede apreciar el despliegue de brillo y espejos que marea en el lugar donde iría la taquilla.

Para entender que esta invasión era parte del cine, tuve que ver fotos antiguas, como el tweet que compartí mas arriba. De todas maneras es un lugar muy curioso. Y me encantaría tener una especie de súper poder para rescatar los relieves y algunas otras joyas que debe esconder en su interior, este estacionamiento.
