And now, a sugar addict? (ENG-ESP)
Greetings, beautiful Gems community đ
- Saludos hermosa comunidad de Gems đ

I have always prided myself on having self-control in many areas; on several occasions, I wondered if I was addicted to anything specific, but I never found an answerâwhich was a good thing for me.
As many of you already know, this year in particular, my life has gone through very difficult trialsâso much so that things changed overnight, including my very outlook on life.
I believe that as a result of everything Iâve been through latelyâmy motherâs death, my husbandâs illness, and the loss of the home I lived in for 12 years (now living in a house that isn't mine, facing so many limitations)âI have found a major "ally" amidst it all. I wonder: is it a friend, or actually the exact opposite? đ€
Sweets have become an inseparable companion; whenever I eat something sweet, I definitely feel a sense of well-beingâitâs as if it soothes a pain or heals a wound. Mind you, the effect is short-lived because the more sweets I eat, the more I crave; I just don't want to stop. Itâs strangeâthis isn't normal for me. I was never much of a sweets lover, but now itâs more than just a pleasure; it has become a necessity đ
To be honest, right now I love eating sweets. If someone advised me against it, Iâd just say, "Leave me beâIâll stop eventually, but for now, Iâm not giving it up!"
Itâs not that I didn't eat sweets before; I did, but in small amounts, and I usually made my own desserts to keep them a bit healthier. Now that I haven't been able to make my own recipes, I only eat processed sweets. My favorites are marshmallows, peanut butter cookies, and cream-filled snack cakes đ€ Oh, and I almost forgot strawberry tarts!
Goodness! Itâs absolute madness when I think about it. From 4 PM until midnight, I get an intense craving to just keep eating sugar. I have a whole set of drawers dedicated to storing sweets; when I run out, I feel anxious and even sad. Theyâve become an essential item for me. I know, I knowâitâs not right; sugar is very harmful to one's health. But right now, it makes me feel good. Unfortunately, my husband joins me in this; he has always had a massive sweet tooth. I had helped him cut back on sugar quite a bit, but now Iâm encouraging him to eat sweets again đ
I hope to overcome all this, because I am convinced that this is only a temporary relief; I think sweets have become an escape amidst so many trials, but I will get past it đȘđŒ. In the meantime, I keep enjoying the marshmallows and the cupcakes I still have stashed in my drawer.

As I read your words, the first thing I feel is a deep admiration for your honesty. Youâve weathered storms that would have broken anyone, and itâs perfectly human to seek refuge when the world you knew is crumbling. Sugar, at this moment, isnât a vice; itâs an emotional painkiller for a pain that has nowhere else to go just yet.
However, I know you recognise this: that friendship with sugar is a loan that charges us high interest. Your self-control hasnât disappeared; itâs simply worn out from holding you up in the midst of your loss. Donât punish yourself for needing a breather, but remember that youâre the one in control, not the sugar jar. When the grief eases a little more, your true self will take the reins again, because that woman who built a home over 12 years and looked after her loved ones is still there, intact. Give yourself permission to work through this with patience, but donât forget that your greatest strength lies not in what you consume, but in your ability to get up every morning, even in a house that you donât yet feel is your own.
Yes, Iâm at a point where sweets have become a temporary pain reliever; I hope that soon I wonât rely on sugar as an escape anymore. I know my health is important and I need to take care of myself.
Thanks once again for your words, my friendâyouâre always so spot-on.
Blessings!đ
