During the tragedy of the double earthquake, I saw both sides of the coin up close; I saw some people taking advantage of others' misfortune, but I also witnessed many giving even more than they could afford to give.

I saw wickedness in such a grotesque form—like in a lawless land where you can harm your neighbor with total impunity.

Indignation and a sense of powerlessness took hold of me. Hours after the earthquake, I saw with my own eyes people looting shops, shopping malls, and apartments. I couldn't believe that in such a tragic moment—when so many of us lost not only our homes and belongings but thousands of lives were lost—there was a group of people breaking in to take what didn't belong to them. How was it possible that while some mourned the loss of their loved ones, others cared only about making off with a refrigerator, a stereo system, a washing machine, and so on, and so forth? 😡😭

Where did respect for others go? What have some human beings become? And please, let's not compare them to animals; we can learn many lessons about kindness from animals. Besides, they act on instinct, whereas we are supposed to act with reason and heart. It is so sad; many think only of their own interests, turning into truly despicable beings.

But let's not dwell on the worst side of things. Thank God I was able to see the other side—the face of kindness in its many forms. Just as I was a victim of the wickedness of the looting, I am also fortunate to have witnessed and benefited from many acts of kindness.

The solidarity shown by people has been incredible. Many neighbors helped one another; some even opened up their homes to shelter others. We ourselves stayed for five days in a home where we lacked nothing. My eternal gratitude goes to that wonderful lady, Norma. 💕

Many people mobilized to volunteer, even from other states; they lent their pickup trucks, cars, and motorcycles to transport supplies. Others documented the events so that many could witness the reality of this tragedy. So many risked their own lives to save others; that kindness fills me with such gratitude—for a moment, I forgot the face of evil.

Even nearly a month and a half after the earthquake, people are still helping with the same energy and love they showed on day one. Yes, the aid has dwindled, but people are still raising their voices because the need remains immense—especially for the most vulnerable: children, the elderly, and animals.

I thank God because I, too, have benefited from the kindness, solidarity, and empathy of so many. Today, I choose to hold onto the best of what I witnessed, because it is incredibly positive and healing for the heart ❤️

En la tragedia del doble terremoto, pude ver de cerca las dos caras de la moneda, vi como algunos se estaban aprovechando de la tragedia de otros, pero también presencié como muchos daban hasta más de lo que podían dar.

Ví la maldad de una forma tan grotesca, como en un país sin ley, en dónde puedes perjudicar a tu prójimo con total impunidad.

La indignación e impotencia son emociones que se apoderaron de mí, horas después del terremoto, pude ver con mis propios ojos como personas saqueaban comercios, centros comerciales y apartamentos, no podía creer como en un momento tan trágico como este, en dónde muchos no solo perdimos nuestros hogares y pertenencias, sino que se perdieron miles de vidas, había un grupo de personas metiéndose a sacar lo que no era suyo, como era posible que mientras unos lloraban la pérdida de sus seres queridos a otros solo les importaba llevarse una nevera, equipo de sonido, lavadoras, etc, etc, y muchas más etc 😡😭

En dónde quedó el respeto hacia el otro, en qué se han convertido algunos seres humanos? Y no lo comparemos con los animales por favor, porque de ellos podemos aprender muchas lecciones de bondad, además ellos actúan por instinto, se supone que nosotros actuamos con la razón y el corazón, pero que triste, muchos solo piensan en sus propios intereses, convirtiéndose en seres totalmente despreciables.

Pero no nos quedemos con la peor cara, gracias a Dios pude ver la otra, el rostro de la bondad en muchas de sus formas y así como fui víctima de la maldad por los saqueos también soy afortunada al ver y ser beneficiada con muchos actos de bondad.

La solidaridad de las personas es y ha sido increíble, muchos vecinos ayudándose mutuamente, algunos prestaron hasta sus hogares para refugiar a otros, nosotros mismos estuvimos 5 días en un hogar en dónde no nos faltó nada, mi agradecimiento eterno para esa hermosa señora (Norma) 💕

Muchas personas se movilizaron para ser voluntarios, aún estando en otros estados del país, prestaron sus camionetas, automóviles, motos para llevar insumos, otros documentaban lo que estaba pasando para que muchos pudieran ver la realidad de esta tragedia, hubieron tantos que arriesgaron sus propias vidas por salvar a otros, esa bondad me hace estar tan agradecida, por un instante olvidé el rostro de la maldad.

Aún a casi mes y medio del terremoto hay personas ayudando con la misma energía y amor que tuvieron desde el primer día, si, la ayuda a menguado pero todavía hay personas levantando la voz porque realmente la necesidad es mucha, siendo más vulnerables los niños, ancianos y animalitos.

Agradezco a Dios porque yo misma he sido beneficiada con la bondad, solidaridad y empatía de muchos, hoy decido quedarme con lo mejor que ví, porque es increíblemente positivo y es sanador para el corazón ❤️
