Class of 2022: Last Class [ENG/ESP]

Good morning to everyone in the Ladies of Hive community! Today I am very excited to show you what was my last class at the university. An event that is usually celebrated at the end of each career, where one of the professors (or several) are ready to give a last class to their students, who soon become professionals. A very emotional moment that I want to share with you here. So here I tell you how it went. Let's start!

Yesterday, November 1st, was not only the celebration of the Saints Day but also the Last Class of the students of the Plastic Arts and Music education. It was about two months ago that both mentions joined together to plan this day. Our main objective was to gather our teachers, parents and close friends to be part of this event. That led us to look for all the ways to arrange things like decoration, food and drinks, invitations, electronic devices for the class, the place, transportation and a lot of other things. As one of my teachers would say, this kind of event is like having a wedding.

¡Muy buenos días a todos en la comunidad de Ladies of Hive! El día de hoy estoy muy emocionada por mostrarles lo que fue mi última clase en la universidad. Un evento que se suele celebrar al final del termino de cada carrera, dónde uno de los profesores (o varios) se disponen a dar a una última clase a sus estudiantes, quienes pronto se convierten en profesionales. Un momento bastante emotivo que quiero compartir con ustedes por aquí. Así que aquí les cuento cómo fue ¡Comencemos!

El día de ayer, 1 de noviembre, no sólo se celebraba el día de Los Santos sino también la Última Clase de los estudiantes de educación mención Artes Plásticas y Música. Hace más o menos dos meses que ambas menciones nos unimos para planificar este día. Nuestro objetivo principal era reunir a nuestro profesores, padres y amigos cercanos para que fueran parte de este suceso. Eso conllevó a buscar por todos los medios la forma de solventar cosas como la decoración, la comida y bebidas, invitaciones, aparatos electrónicos para la clase, el lugar, transporte y un sin fin de cosas más. Cómo diría una de mis profesora, este tipo de eventos es como celebrar una boda.

Everything was going great until we received some bad news; one of our teachers was seriously ill. She was going to attend. When that message reached us we started to put the event on the back burner and feared for her condition. But to our relief, within days she recovered and was discharged. A huge relief because even though she could no longer attend our class, she was fine. So we decided to continue with the event. And I mention this because really in our art department we are very few and we all know each other and from that group we have had very big human losses due to the pandemic and other complications in the country. For the same reason, every teacher and colleague is valuable to us. For this reason we also prepared a tribute to some of the teachers who have left our side.

Finally the day arrived. We prepared everything in advance but, like everything else, sometimes unforeseen events arise, which are typical of any planning: delays in the arrival of some guests, some files did not open in the computer, one of our teachers had an emergency and could not attend, among other things. Until we were ready to start and everything fell into place in spite of the aforementioned. Our teacher Maria de Lourdes was in charge of teaching our last class and dedicated that day to the subject of Art History, specifically, the 19th century.

Todo iba muy bien hasta que recibimos una mala noticia; una de nuestras profesoras se encontraba gravemente enferma. Ella iba a asistir. Cuando ese mensaje llegó a nosotros empezamos a dejar de lado el evento y temíamos por su estado. Pero para nuestro bienestar, a los días ella se recuperó y fue dada de alta. Un alivio muy grande porque a pesar de que ya no podía ir a nuestra clase, ella estaba bien. Así que decidimos continuar con la el evento. Y menciono esto porque realmente en nuestro departamento de arte somos muy pocos y todos nos conocemos y de ese grupo hemos tenido pérdidas humanas muy grandes debido a la pandemia y otras complicaciones del país. Por lo mismo, cada profesor y compañero es valioso para nosotros. Por ese motivo también se preparó un homenaje hacia algunos de los profesores que han partido de nuestro lado.

Finalmente el día llegó. Nosotros preparamos todo con anticipación pero, como todo, a veces surgen imprevistos que son típicos de cualquier planificación: retrasos de la llegada de algunos invitados, algunos archivos no abrían en la computadora, una de nuestras profesoras tuvo una emergencia y no pudo asistir, entre otras cosas. Hasta que estuvimos listos para iniciar y logramos que todo encajara en su lugar a pesar de lo antes mencionada. Nuestra profesora María de Lourdes fue la encargada de impartir nuestra última clase y dedicó ese día a la asignatura de Historia del Arte, específicamente, del siglo XIX.

Between laughter and some tears, our teacher dedicated a space to make some allegories between several paintings and the beginning of a new life as professionals. The joy of achieving such an important goal, the value of our career as educators, the sensitivity that we must have as art specialists, the construction that we gradually achieve and the inevitable deconstruction that we live and will live as part of this cycle of life and that we must take as our own, embrace it. And most importantly, that everything we do in life we do it with love.

After that all the guests received refreshments and we spent some time with our friends and family. My mother was with me and she was very touched by the moment. Then we took some pictures to record and save this last class where now we only have to wait for our graduation ceremony, which is getting closer and closer. Finally my friends, I can only say thank you very much for stopping by and for joining me in the next part of this story that I have been able to tell through Hive. Entre risas y algunas lágrimas, nuestra profesora dedicó un espacio para hacer algunas alegorías entre varias pinturas y el inicio de una nueva vida como profesionales. La alegría de lograr una meta tan importante, el valor de nuestra carrera como educadores, la sensibilidad que debemos tener como especialistas en arte, la construcción que poco a poco logramos y la deconstrucción inevitable que vivimos y viviremos cómo parte de ese ciclo de la vida y que debemos tomar como propio, abrazarlo. Y lo más importante, qué todo lo que hagamos en la vida lo hagamos con mucho amor.

Luego de ello todos los invitados recibieron un refrigerio y nos dedicamos a compartir un rato con nuestros amigos y familiares. Mi madre estaba conmigo y estaba muy conmovida por el momento. Luego tomamos algunas fotografías para registrar y guardar esta última clase donde ahora solo nos queda esperar por nuestro acto de grado, cada vez más cerca. Finalmente amigos míos, no me queda más que decir muchas gracias por pasar y por acompañarme en el siguiente de esta historia que he podido contar a través de Hive.
