Todo el mundo tiene derecho a defender su tierra, el lugar que los vio nacer, donde vivió los mejores años de sus vida; pero en el caso de nosotros los andinos la tierra la llevamos en la sangre y va con nosotros a todas partes.

Everyone has the right to defend their land, the place where they were born, where they lived the best years of their lives; but in the case of us Andeans, we carry the land in our blood and it goes with us everywhere.

Indios Cospes de Tostós

Hablar hoy de mi tierra andina es un orgullo inmenso, porque nacer en esta tierra hermosa fue lo mejor que me pudo haber pasado en la vida. Mis mejores años los pase aquí, rodeado de montañas, verdes campos, extensos bosques de vegetación por donde caminaba día tras día junto a mis hermanos, mis primos, mis amigos.

To speak today of my Andean land is an immense pride, because being born in this beautiful land was the best thing that could have happened to me in my life. My best years were spent here, surrounded by mountains, green fields, extensive forests of vegetation where I walked day after day with my brothers, my cousins, my friends.

Infinitos recuerdos vienen a mi mente, días de sol jugando a la pelota, días de lluvia corriendo descalzos saltando entre los charcos de agua. Sonrisas van, sonrisas vienen y que bonito se siente haber nacido aquí.

Endless memories come to my mind, sunny days playing ball, rainy days running barefoot jumping through puddles of water. Smiles go, smiles come and how nice it feels to be born here.

Muchos de ustedes conocen esta tierra, muchos de ustedes conocen esta gente y de seguro muchos de ustedes opinaran que ir a visitar estos pueblos es un riesgo, ¡si amigos! Es fácil llegar, pasarla bien, pero es muy difícil quererse ir.

Many of you know this land, many of you know these people and surely many of you will think that visiting these towns is a risk, yes friends! It is easy to arrive, to have a good time, but it is very difficult to want to leave.

Esta tierra guarda un gran misterio, durante décadas se han contado historias de hombres que se enamoran de las andinas y terminan envueltos en un idilio de amor que afortunadamente siempre concluye con un final feliz.

This land holds a great mystery, for decades stories have been told of men who fall in love with the Andean women and end up involved in a love affair that fortunately always ends with a happy ending.

Por estos paisajes se cuentan las leyendas de la llorona, el silbón, la sayona, el hombre que carga un ataúd en sus hombros, el niño que llora en medio de la noche, los espantos y brujas que atormentan a los borrachos. Pero no se asusten son solo historias que te hacen sentir emoción y nada más.

The legends of the llorona, the silbón, the sayona, the man who carries a coffin on his shoulders, the child who cries in the middle of the night, the ghosts and witches who torment drunks are told in these landscapes. But don't be scared, they are just stories that make you feel emotion and nothing more.

¡Y que me dicen del frio sabroso que traspasa las tres cobijas de lana que te pone tu mamá por las noches! Eso si es para ponerse a temblar, cuando hablas y te sale humo por la boca provocado por el frio que se mete en tus pulmones y que solo lo puedes sacar con café o chocolate caliente recién colado en el fogón de leña que calienta toda la casa.

And what about the tasty cold that goes through the three wool blankets that your mother puts on you at night! That is really something to shiver about, when you talk and smoke comes out of your mouth caused by the cold that gets into your lungs and you can only get rid of it with coffee or hot chocolate freshly brewed in the wood stove that heats the whole house.

Los que son más arriesgados se toman unos cuantos tragos de miche, bebida preparada artesanalmente y que proviene de la fermentación de la caña de azúcar. Imposible que visites esta tierra y te vayas sin sentir el calor del miche pasar por tu cuerpo y al mismo tiempo sentir tus orejas como se ponen coloradas.

Those who are more adventurous take a few shots of miche, a drink prepared by hand and that comes from the fermentation of sugar cane. It is impossible to visit this land and leave without feeling the heat of the miche passing through your body and at the same time feeling your ears turn red.

De las tierras de Trujillo proviene la mayor cantidad de alimentos que se consumen en todo el país, la gente es muy trabajadora, cultivan de todo. Esto me hace recordar que ya pronto comenzaran a cultivar los sembradíos de café, una de las temporadas más esperadas del año ya que la población trabaja, cosecha y obtiene ingresos de este rubro.

From the lands of Trujillo comes the largest amount of food consumed throughout the country, the people are very hardworking, they grow everything. This reminds me that soon they will begin to cultivate the coffee plantations, one of the most awaited seasons of the year since the population works, harvests and obtains income from this item.

Las tradiciones y costumbres de esta tierra están por doquier, cada mes se celebra alguna cosa y son fiestas que datan de décadas y que fueron fomentadas gracias a nuestros ancestros.

Hoy les quiero hablar de la fiesta más reciente que hubo en mi pueblo Tostòs, un pueblo hermoso del Estado Trujillo.

The traditions and customs of this land are everywhere, every month something is celebrated and they are festivities that date back decades and that were fostered thanks to our ancestors.

Today I want to talk about the most recent celebration in my town Tostòs, a beautiful town in the State of Trujillo.

Aquí como cada 8 de septiembre, se celebra la aparición de la virgen María al cacique Coromoto, de allí que las etnias indígenas rindan tributo a la madre de Dios.

Here, as every September 8, the apparition of the Virgin Mary to the cacique Coromoto is celebrated, hence the indigenous ethnic groups pay tribute to the mother of God.

En el pueblo de Tostòs se celebra este día con mucha devoción y se hace una serie de rituales como homenaje. Los Indios Cospes de Tostòs es una etnia que habitó estas montañas desde mucho antes de la colonización y aun guardan algunas de sus costumbres. En el año de 1957 un sacerdote se dispuso a celebrar el día de la Virgen de Coromoto de manera distinta y para ello junto a un grupo de hombres de la comunidad para realizar un baile típico de la etnia Tostòs.

In the town of Tostòs this day is celebrated with great devotion and a series of rituals are performed as a tribute. The Cospes Indians of Tostòs is an ethnic group that inhabited these mountains long before colonization and still keep some of their customs. In 1957, a priest decided to celebrate the day of the Virgin of Coromoto in a different way and for this purpose he joined a group of men from the community to perform a typical dance of the Tostòs ethnic group.

Cuentan que la primera vez eran unos pocos pero que con el pasar de los años se hicieron cientos, tanto así que un solo hombre que representaba al cacique Guaicaipuro en el baile no fue suficiente y tuvieron que dividir a la masa de jóvenes en 4 comunidades, cada una representaba a los grupos indígenas que habitaban estas tierras.

They say that the first time they were a few but over the years they became hundreds, so much so that a single man representing the chief Guaicaipuro in the dance was not enough and had to divide the mass of young people in 4 communities, each representing the indigenous groups that inhabited these lands.

Su vestimenta es muy artesanal y está hecha con todo lo que brota de la tierra. El baile trata de 3 hombres que al son del tambor van danzando y van girando tocando en el centro sus bastones.

Their clothing is very handmade and is made with everything that comes from the earth. The dance consists of 3 men who dance to the sound of the drum and turn around while touching their sticks in the center.

Los preparativos de los Indios Cospes de Tostòs inician meses antes, ya que muchas personas se van incorporando año tras año a la tradición, ya sea porque le gusta lo que allí se hace o porque está pidiendo o agradeciendo un favor particular a la madre del cielo.

The preparations of the Cospes de Tostòs Indians begin months before, as many people are incorporated year after year to the tradition, either because they like what is done there or because they are asking or thanking a particular favor to the mother of heaven.

Cuando por fin llega el día toda la población acompaña a los indios en la misa en honor a la virgen y luego salen todos en procesión por las calles del pueblo de Tostòs.

Esta tradición es algo hermoso pero que lastima que muchas personas no conozcan de ella.

When the day finally arrives the whole population accompanies the Indians in the mass in honor of the virgin and then they all go out in procession through the streets of the village of Tostòs.

This tradition is something beautiful but it is a pity that many people do not know about it.

Todos los pueblos andinos son cultura, sabor y tradición. De aquí no te puedes marchar jamás sin antes probar un pastelito andino, una sabrosa chicha, la gallina azada o el famoso mute o mondongo.

All Andean villages are culture, flavor and tradition. You can never leave here without tasting an Andean pastry, a tasty chicha, the "gallina azada" or the famous "mute" or "mondongo".

Cuando visites mi pueblo no te olvides de visitar todos estos lugares mágicos, dignos de admirar. Si pasas hacia Boconò podrás descansar en los prados de la laguna de los cedros, es por este lugar y muchos más que hoy en día se conoce a Trujillo “el Jardín de Venezuela”.

When you visit my town, don't forget to visit all these magical places, worthy of admiration. If you go to Boconò you can rest in the meadows of the cedar lagoon, it is for this place and many more that today Trujillo is known as "the Garden of Venezuela".

Pronto les estaré contando un poco más de esta hermosa visita a mi tierra andina, les estaré contando un más de los paseos al rio, la gastronomía y quien quita les cocine algo delicioso con verduras frescas recién salida del campo.
