This weekend we all went to my mother's farm to meet the newborn. The orphan, as everyone calls her mother, gave birth against all odds to a beautiful, big and healthy calf.

At home we always rejoice when an animal is born, be it a dog, cat, chicken, cow, but after what "La huérfana" had to go through there was not much hope that the calf would be born well.

Este fin de semana nos fuimos todos a la finca de mi madre a conocer al recién nacido. La huérfana como todos llaman a su madre dio a luz contra todo pronóstico un becerro hermoso, grande y saludable.

En casa siempre nos alegramos cuando nace un animal, sea perro, gato, pollo, vaca, pero luego de lo que “La huérfana” tuvo que pasar no había muchas esperanzas de que la cría naciera bien.

It turns out that about 3 months ago when the orphan was in the process of gestation she began to spurt blood from the nose and mouth, that was a huge scare for my brother Miguel who immediately had a doctor come who commented that this usually happens when the animal has been bitten by a "Chipo".

Resulta que hace unos 3 meses cuando la huérfana estaba en proceso de gestación comenzó a botar sangre por la nariz y la boca, eso fue un susto enorme para mi hermano Miguel quien de inmediato hizo venir a medico quien comento normalmente esto ocurre cuando el animal ha sido picado por un “Chipo”.

Immediately studies were done, information was corroborated with other veterinarians in the area and the appropriate treatment was started. Everyone assured that the calf was going to die, because the antibiotics they were giving to the mother were too strong. Days went by and after a week the cow got better.

De inmediato se hicieron estudios, se corroboro información con otros veterinarios de la zona y se le comenzó a colocar el tratamiento adecuado para eso. Todos aseguraban que la cría iba a morir, porque los antibióticos que le estaban suministrando a la madre eran muy fuertes. Pasaron los días y después de una semana la vaca se mejoró.

Once again, the hand of God intervened and gave birth to this beautiful, healthy calf. Everyone at home was watching the birth, from the morning when they got up they observed the cow's attitude, little by little she was expelling the calf and "Boala" party at home, the calf began to move.

Nuevamente la mano de Dios intervino e hizo que naciera este lindo becerrito completamente sano. Todos en casa estuvieron al pendiente del parto, desde la mañana cuando se levantaron observaron la actitud de la vaca, poco a poco fue expulsando al becerro y “Boala” fiesta en casa, el becerro se comenzó a mover.

You have to understand us, it was not easy to see that animal so strong, so decayed, spurting blood everywhere, as if it was breaking inside and now to see her alive and with her calf next to her is a huge reason to be happy and celebrate.

Ustedes nos han de entender, no fue fácil ver aquel animal tan fuerte decaído, botando sangre por todos lados, como si se estuviese rompiendo por dentro y ahora estar viéndola viva y con su cría al lado es un motivo enorme para estar alegres y celebrar.

Now everyone wants to come and see the miracle of life, pictures are taken and the community talks about nothing else. Blessed be the knowledge of these veterinarians who saved the life not only of the mother. Blessed be the countryside that teaches us wonderful things.

Ahora todos quieren venir a ver el milagro de la vida, se toman fotos y en la comunidad no se habla de otra cosa. Bendito sea el conocimiento de estos médicos veterinarios que salvaron la vida no solo de la madre. Bendito sea el campo que nos enseña cosas maravillosas.

My brother and my nephew are celebrating, because he was born a boy and that guarantees the raising of more cattle.

Now we are drinking milk, the calf will be suckled for about 3 months and we will be able to drink milk and make cheese on the farm.

En la casa ahora se vuelve a respirar paz, mi hermano y mi sobrino celebran, porque nació varón y eso garantiza la crianza de más ganado.
Ahora estamos tomando leche, el becerro será amamantado por unos 3 meses y nosotros podremos tomar leche y hacer queso en la granja.

May the joy continue, may not only cows continue to be born, but also chickens, horses, rabbits and we will take care of them with all the love in the world, as our ancestors taught us.
