I have been around a long while - August 2016. I got some good coaching and my introductory post made $1300.
I have watched post rewards go up and down. It is still like that. The truth is I get paid every time I put pen to paper to write up a daily journal or an investing journal (#644 just published) or a crypto journal. Yes I could do a lot better in different communities with the same stuff. Truth is the journalling helps me. If I help someone along the way, that is a bonus even if I do not get a vote.
The best part is if Hive price goes up, my first post gets a lot more valuable.

That is a good point and one that gets overlooked. When taking the long term outlook, we can compound the value of our rewards by seeing the price appreciate.
