Castro and the sea (Castro Urdiales). CCC's Street Art Contest #139
Hi friends,
One more week I have the pleasure to write again and participate in an edition of the CCC`s Street Art Contest that @digi-me organizes every week.
CCC`s Street Art Contest Round 139
Castro Urdiales
Before getting into the subject of urban art, I think it is very interesting to introduce you to the town where the mural I will start talking about is located.
Castro Urdidles is a town of about 30,000 inhabitants located in Cantabria, bathed by the Cantabrian Sea and a few kilometers from Bilbao.
In recent weeks, I have been in this town for work on several occasions and this has allowed me to discover many corners of this town such as Brazomar beach.
I have also walked along the promenade allowing me to discover spectacular sunsets.
And walk through the seaside neighborhood where a beautiful church of the thirteenth century located on a cliff stands out.
And right next to this church one can visit the castle-lighthouse, from inside of which one can understand the title of today's mural "Castro and the sea".
And it is even more understandable when one comes across this statue of a sailor whaler hunter that was a dangerous trade centuries ago in this port located in the north of Spain.
Urban art as a tribute
After strolling through the streets of the seafaring quarter and discovering the atmosphere in this area near the port, I discovered today's mural located in Artiñano Street N2.
Does the sailor in the mural remind you of anyone?
To me he reminded me of the whale fisherman seen before, although in the mural with the blue tonality his image is even more expressive.
Especially his captivating eyes and the marks that the sea makes on the fishermen's skin with the hard work they have to do.
In turn, I loved the blue color used to paint the fisherman evoking the blue color of the sea that usually has the Cantabrian Sea in the town of Castro Urdiales.
And with the detail of a long beard that seems to float slightly as if it were submerged in the sea. I say this because of the bubbles that can be seen around his face.
The author of the mural is Steve Camino, who signs as mezclandocolores83 and whose work I have reviewed on Instagram and is very attractive.
In short, the title of the work and the representation of this sailor is a work very much in keeping with the beauty of Castro Urdiales and pays tribute to a tough profession such as fishermen. Although fortunately whale fishing in the Cantabrian Sea is no longer carried out, except for the fishing of some Hive whales.
I hope you like the mural and also the environment of the mural of the wonderful town of Castro Urdiales.
