Greetings, friends of the #LadiesofHive community. In this week’s edition, which invites us to reflect on the questions posed by our dear @elizabethbit, here is my participation:
If a genie could grant you a single wish, what would it be and why?
Although some drugs were initially created for medicinal purposes, if I could make a wish to a magic genie, I would ask for a world free from the vices of drugs, alcohol and cigarettes – substances that are highly addictive – as addictions cause damage to health.

A genuine and sincere desire to get clean
My hope is to understand how there are people who are lost in that abyss and find it difficult to escape, because I also know that even though there are communities and mutual support groups that make up the anti-drug support network, it takes courage and, most importantly, a sincere and genuine desire to recover.
Often, when addictions cause damage to one’s health, I think that acknowledging the problem is like a first step towards wanting to change, and I believe that in these situations, seeking that help is the hardest part.

A world free from the pain caused by addiction
If the genie in the lamp really existed, that would undoubtedly be one of the wishes I would ask for: a world free from the pain caused by addiction.
I believe that behind every addiction – whether to illicit substances, alcohol or tobacco – there is almost always a story of suffering, not only for the person affected, but for their entire family and those around them. It is a harsh reality that takes its toll on physical, mental and emotional health.
So, the idea in medicine is that, in fact, many substances were created in laboratories with the genuine intention of relieving pain, providing anaesthesia during surgery or treating mental illnesses.
The problem lies in the neurological changes and disorders caused by excessive and addictive use, because they trap people in a cycle that is very difficult to break, making it a public health and safety challenge.

Si existiera ese genio de la lámpara, esa sería sin duda una de las peticiones que considero que le rogaría, por un mundo libre del dolor que causan las adicciones.
Creo que detrás de cada adicción, ya sea a sustancias ilícitas, al alcohol o al tabaco, casi siempre hay una historia de sufrimiento, no solo para la persona que lo padece, sino para toda su familia y su entorno. Es una realidad dura que desgasta la salud física, mental y emocional.

The fight on three key fronts
Although we do not have a magic wand to make the problem disappear overnight, when I set about researching online how to tackle vices and addictions, I found that humanity’s methods—or its fight—against this problem that affects us as a society are centred on three key fronts:
- -Science and Medicine: Developing better treatments, non-addictive painkillers and more effective detoxification therapies.
-Education: Discussing these issues openly to prevent substance use before it becomes an addiction.
-Social Empathy: Understanding addiction not as a ‘lack of willpower’ or a ‘vice’, but as a mental health condition that requires support, treatment and compassion.
La lucha desde tres frentes clave
Aunque no tenemos un genio mágico para borrar el problema de golpe, cuando me di a la tarea de investigar en Internet sobre la manera de abordar los vicios y adicciones, encontré que los métodos o lucha de la humanidad contra este problema que nos afecta como sociedad, lo hacen desde tres frentes clave:
-La Ciencia y la Medicina: Desarrollando mejores tratamientos, fármacos no adictivos para el dolor y terapias de desintoxicación más efectivas.

A complex illness, not a character flaw
Allowing ourselves to see addiction for what it really is—a complex illness, not a character flaw—is the first essential step towards addressing it with the seriousness and respect it deserves.
I hope that science and social awareness will gradually bring us closer to that world I dream of, as a profound and humane reflection.
I believe it is necessary to seek help from that power greater than ourselves, for as someone once said: "Carry God in your heart, for there are battles that strength alone cannot sustain, and only faith keeps you standing".

Permitirnos ver la adicción como lo que realmente es, una enfermedad compleja y no un defecto de carácter, es el primer paso fundamental para poder abordarla con la seriedad y el respeto que merece.
Ojalá la ciencia y la conciencia social nos acerquen, poco a poco, a ese mundo con el que sueño como una reflexión humana y profunda.
Creo que buscar ayuda en ese poder más grande que nosotros es necesario, pues alguien dijo : "Lleva a Dios en el corazón, porque hay batallas que la fuerza sola no sostiene y solo la fe te mantiene en pie.
2. Summer, the dry season, the rainy season or autumn: what do you like most about the current season in your country and/or what do you like least about it?
My country, Venezuela, is located in the intertropical zone, so we do not experience the four distinct seasons of temperate zones, but rather periods such as the dry season or tropical summer, which runs from December to April, and the rainy season or tropical winter, from May to November.
I particularly like both seasons; at the moment, during this rainy spell, I love the freshness in the air, as the previous two months were very hot and we really needed this weather that I’m enjoying now.
2. Verano, estación seca, estación Iluviosa u otoño: iqué es lo que más te gusta de la estación actual en tu país y/o lo que menos te gusta de ella?
En mi país Venezuela, se encuentra en la zona intertropical, por lo que no se experimentan las cuatro estaciones bien definidas de las zonas templadas, sino períodos como la estación seca o de verano tropical que ocurre de Diciembre a Abril, y la estación lluviosa o invierno tropical, de Mayo a Noviembre.
En particular me gustan ambos períodos de clima, en el actual que es el periodo de los días de lluvia me encanta la frescura del ambiente, ya que los dos meses anteriores hubo mucho calor y hacía falta este clima que disfruto ahora.
For example, it’s been over a year since my daughter and I moved from a warm area, and now what I enjoy most is the cool tropical mountain climate, as the winds and breezes during the day cool the air; plus, the area where I live is covered in trees throughout the city.
What does really frighten me, though, is when floods or landslides occur due to rivers swelling, leaving many people affected; that is why I pray to our Creator to protect us and prevent tragedies, such as falling trees, especially if the rains have been very heavy and the ground is very damp and soft.

Por ejemplo, hace más de un año que junto con mi hija nos mudamos de una zona cálida, y ahora lo que más disfruto es el clima tropical fresco de montaña, pues los vientos y la brisa durante el día refrescan el ambiente, además de la zona donde vivo está cubierta de árboles por toda la ciudad.
Lo que si me da mucho temor es cuando ocurren inundaciones o derrumbes por la crecida de los ríos, dejando a muchas personas afectadas, por ello rezo a nuestro creador para que nos proteja y no ocurran tragedias, como la caída de los árboles, especialmente si las lluvias han sido muy intensas y el suelo está muy húmedo y blando.

I can't imagine what one goes through addicted to drugs/alcohol and other things. I worked this week with a young woman under 30 who is in rehab. She came in for an eye exam. In just four weeks after her initial exam, her eyes had gotten worse over 2 diopters of correction! She is currently in the hospital for 10 days undergoing a series of injections in her eyes as due to the drugs, she has contracted some kind of ocular syphilis, which could account for the prescription change. It is so sad!
I am glad that you like both of your seasons! It can be hard to like the weather most of the time. I totally understand the flooding thing as we have been dealing with flooding here over the past 5 years multiple times that are what they call 100 year floods. Crazy!
