Saludos a todos, amigos de la comunidad de #EmpowerTalent , con el tema que nos traen cada semana, especialmente con nuestra querida @angelica7 , para invitarnos a escribir sobre: "Solidaridad", donde los gestos de solidaridad no solo se deben pensar, sino convertir en acción para que este pueda germinar como una hermosa semilla, a continuación mi participación:

Ya han pasado tres semanas desde uno de los peores desastres naturales de toda Venezuela , el sentimiento de dolor por las pérdidas humanas, por las familias que perdieron tanto, es un duelo que compartimos como venezolanos.

En mi caso, junto con mi hija que vivimos en un apartamento, durante el terrible susto por el doble sismo, aferradas a la oración en nuestro creador, buscamos salir y justo nuestra primera respuesta fue en el apartamento de al lado, que viven una pareja de ancianos; fue en las primeras personas que mi hija se acordó, ya la señora estaba intentando abrir la puerta y mi hija le ayudó, la tomó de la mano y ella decía que estaba recién operada; a su esposo lo agarraron de la mano las otras vecinas y fuimos bajando por las escaleras poco a poco, hasta que todos salimos del edificio.

Todos en el mismo barco

Entonces la primera línea de defensa es el vecino, pues la historia de casi todos los grandes sismos lo demuestra, en las primeras horas críticas, las comunicaciones colapsan, los servicios públicos se saturan, y el Estado tarda en llegar.

Las relaciones comunitarias son también oportunidades de la vida que enriquecen nuestra existencia, es una manera de reflexionar de pasar de la cultura del “cada quien en su casa” a la cultura del “todos en el mismo barco”, refleja que la red de solidaridad entre vecinos es una forma de reconocer que estamos juntos en esto.

Así como mi hija se ha involucrado en esa labor de ayuda en un centro de acopio como llevar algunos víveres y ropa en buen estado con la necesidad inmediata de buscar de ayudar a quienes perdieron aún más.

Regalarnos calor en los momentos de frío y desolación

Luego de esa fuerte experiencia, estuvimos con la familia en la casa de mis hermanas y hermano, todos estos días para acompañarnos. Si hay algo que he traído a reflexión es que no dejes que el tiempo y las pequeñas rencillas te roben esos momentos irreemplazables, pues la familia es nuestro primer hogar, la primera oportunidad de la vida para aprender el amor, el respeto y la solidaridad.

Una autora hindú afirma que solemos discutir con frecuencia con quienes tenemos mayor confianza, por lo que nos lleva a convertirnos en “luz de la calle, oscuridad de la casa”, pero lo cierto es que debemos empezar por valorar lo que se nos hace más cercano para luego poder apreciar con mayor claridad lo de afuera, no lo contrario.

La familia es el resguardo de nuestras almas, lo que siempre debemos recordar es que a pesar de que en algunas ocasiones, no veamos los brazos de nuestra familia, ella siempre estará allí para regalarnos calor en los momentos de frío y desolación.

La resiliencia y la humanidad de nuestra gente

Cuando una tragedia golpea con tal magnitud, las palabras a menudo se quedan cortas ante el dolor de tantas familias y el impacto en nuestra tierra. En momentos así, es precisamente esa diversidad de realidades la que demuestra la resiliencia y la humanidad de nuestra gente.

Al estar en la parte alta del sector Vista hermosa, la zona de la parroquia Sucre en Caracas, se llega a ver al fondo, abajo entre las montañas, donde se distingue claramente la silueta del Viaducto de la Autopista Caracas - La Guaira, abriéndose paso hacia el litoral, existe la brecha de las montañas y se puede contemplar ese escape hacia el litoral, donde vimos muchos de los funcionarios, rescatistas, ambulancias, buscar y usar por esa vía, que da a un camino rústico o vía de paso temporal, que se habilita de forma paralela para alternar directo hacia la autopista y de allí directo a la Guaira.

El terrible terremoto ha sido una de las mayores tragedias que ha tocado vivir a nuestro país en más de un siglo. Saber que ya no es solo una descripción contemplativa; ahora es un testimonio vivo del colapso, de la solidaridad y del esfuerzo por salvar vidas conectando a Caracas con una de las zonas más golpeadas, como lo fue La Guaira, es una desgarradora pero necesaria realidad, para transmitir la inmensa gravedad y emotividad de ese momento.

La voluntad de no dejar a nadie atrás

La verdad es que la tragedia nos une en luto por nuestro país, porque he sentido que refleja la tensión y el dolor de esos días de rescate, pues fueron momentos angustiosos en medio del caos de las carreteras colapsadas. Donde cada uno de nosotros vive una realidad diferente y ninguna ayuda es pequeña, paso a paso, todo suma para levantar a quienes hoy más nos necesitan. Es un sentimiento profundo y compartido.

Aunque las formas de ayudar sean distintas, desde la acción directa en el terreno, la organización logística, el apoyo económico, la difusión de información veraz o simplemente el acompañamiento emocional a quienes lo han perdido todo, lo que verdaderamente trasciende es la voluntad de no dejar a nadie atrás.

Ese esfuerzo colectivo, nacido de la empatía y de la mano tendida, es el reflejo más noble del espíritu venezolano ante la adversidad. La solidaridad, cuando es genuina, tal como lo refleja la ayuda recibida de muchos países, se convierte en el refugio más seguro mientras el país intenta encontrar la fuerza para levantarse.

Mantener esa unión y la disposición de ayudar, en medio de esta tragedia, son los actos pequeños y repetitivos los que producen grandes cambios y es lo que marca la diferencia entre el desconsuelo y la esperanza de reconstrucción.

It has now been three weeks since one of the worst natural disasters in the whole of Venezuela; the sense of grief over the loss of life, and for the families who have lost so much, is a mourning we share as Venezuelans.

In my case, my daughter and I – who live in a flat – clung to prayer to our Creator during the terrible scare caused by the double earthquake; we tried to get out, and our very first instinct was to go to the flat next door, where an elderly couple live; they were among the first people my daughter thought of; the lady was already trying to open the door and my daughter helped her, taking her by the hand, whilst she explained that she’d only just had an operation; her husband was taken by the hand by the other neighbours and we made our way down the stairs little by little, until we’d all left the building.

All in the same boat

So the first line of defence is our neighbours, as the history of almost all major earthquakes shows: in those critical first few hours, communications break down, public services become overwhelmed, and the state is slow to respond.

Community relationships are also life-enriching opportunities; they offer a way to reflect on moving from a culture of ‘every man for himself’ to one of ‘we’re all in this together’, reflecting how the network of solidarity amongst neighbours is a way of recognising that we’re in this together.

Just as my daughter has got involved in this relief work at a collection centre – bringing some food and clothing in good condition – there is an immediate need to seek ways to help those who have lost even more.

Bringing us warmth in times of cold and desolation

Following that profound experience, we spent all these days with the family at my sisters’ and brother’s house, where they were there to support us. If there is one thing that has made me reflect, it is that you must not let time and petty squabbles rob you of those irreplaceable moments, for family is our first home, life’s first opportunity to learn about love, respect and solidarity.

An Indian author states that we often argue most frequently with those we trust the most, which leads us to become ‘a light on the street, darkness at home’; but the truth is that we must start by valuing what is closest to us so that we can then appreciate the outside world more clearly – not the other way round.

The family is the refuge of our souls; what we must always remember is that, even though at times we may not see our family’s embrace, they will always be there to offer us warmth in moments of cold and desolation.

The resilience and humanity of our people

When a tragedy strikes on such a massive scale, words often fall short in the face of the grief felt by so many families and the impact on our land. At times like these, it is precisely this diversity of realities that demonstrates the resilience and humanity of our people.

Standing high up in the Vista Hermosa neighbourhood, in the Sucre parish of Caracas, you can look down into the valley between the mountains, where the silhouette of the Caracas Motorway Viaduct is clearly visible – La Guaira motorway viaduct, cutting its way towards the coast. There is a gap in the mountains, and one can see that route to the coast, where we saw many officials, rescue workers and ambulances searching and using that route, which leads to a rough track or temporary passageway set up in parallel to provide a direct alternative to the motorway and from there straight to La Guaira.

This terrible earthquake has been one of the greatest tragedies our country has had to endure in over a century. To realise that this is no longer merely a contemplative description; it is now a living testimony to the devastation, to solidarity and to the effort to save lives by connecting Caracas with one of the hardest-hit areas, such as La Guaira, is a heart-wrenching yet necessary reality, serving to convey the immense gravity and emotional impact of that moment.

The determination not to leave anyone behind

The truth is that this tragedy unites us in mourning for our country, because I feel it reflects the tension and pain of those days of rescue efforts; they were harrowing moments amidst the chaos of gridlocked roads. Whilst each of us faces a different reality and no amount of help is too small, step by step, it all adds up to lifting up those who need us most today. It is a profound and shared feeling.

Although the ways of helping may differ – from direct action on the ground, logistical organisation, financial support, the dissemination of accurate information, or simply providing emotional support to those who have lost everything – what truly stands out is the determination not to leave anyone behind.

That collective effort, born of empathy and a helping hand, is the noblest reflection of the Venezuelan spirit in the face of adversity. Solidarity, when it is genuine – as reflected in the aid received from many countries – becomes the safest haven whilst the country tries to find the strength to get back on its feet.

Maintaining that unity and willingness to help, in the midst of this tragedy, it is the small, repeated acts that bring about great change and that make the difference between despair and the hope of reconstruction.
