Hello Hivers, I hope everyone is well and great. welcome to my new blog. Another fun painting I'm going to share to you today. I know some of us are familiar with this medium, pastel is a crayon made of powdered pigments, these art medium with a soft and delicate shade of a color in a form of stick that allow you to layer and create vibrant soft colors. Oil pastels can be a wonderful medium to bridge drawing and painting techniques. It can be also associated with both painting and drawing.

These drawing crayons are applied on a canvas or a soft papers, you can see that it will appear bright and fresh because the colour value not change. We can notice immediately the final effect. Despite of the simplicity of this medium, pastel crayons are very versatile. You don't need many tools in making art using oil pastels. Aside from versatility They’re affordable. This medium is a non-toxic like crayons and suitable for children.

For The Beginners
As you start to learn oil pastel I suggest to start out with one subject. Choise a subject that is easy and won't be too complicated. The challenge here is the layering and blending the colors. learn the techniques and don't be dissappointed or discourage on your first try. Don't stop practicing there are plenty of times to learn, as long you have the desire to learn of something everything is possible. That's what I do personally. It might be not as good on the first try but eventually you will notice big improvements by applying the basic principles of oil pastel.

For the record: In the 16th century, Pastels originated in northern Italy. The German artist used this mdium for portraits. But Oil pastels were first created by Sakura in 1925 and it is called Cray-Pas.

Very beautiful picture!
This is the first time I've heard that oil pastels can be smeared with a finger! Usually, something like turpentine is required to blur the strokes made by this material.

Nicely done! These oil pastels are interesting. I would think the crayons themselves are simple to use, but creating fine detail with them? That, I imagine, would be difficult.

I love the subtle shading of the person on the bench to create the look of... shade. lol

Thanks for the insight into this type of drawing and materials. I don't see too many oil drawing posts on Hive so this was rather unique.

Cheers!
