Aping into Hive Punks

avatar

Punks on Hive is the hot topic right now, and it seems like all 10,000 got minted already just in 2 days. The FOMO got me too and ended up minting 35 in total. I had the crazy thought initially that I'd mint 100 just to own 1% of all 10,000 punks, but I managed to control myself. Using 10% of all my precius HIVE to buy punks would've been bit too much aping :D

I gave myself a rule that I won't go below 20,000 HIVE (Powered up and liquid). I want to grow my HIVE stash long term, but all these new projects, Splinterlands, Hive Punks, are making it difficult! Though Splinterlands I see as an investment that keeps generating passive income from renting. Hive Punks I also see as an investments, although much speculative one. But that's the nature of investing: being early the risk is high, but so is the potential for reward. I believe though that the 20 HIVE minting price will serve as the price floor. I don't think anyone is willing to sell cheaper even the least rare ones.

Let's hope that some extra utility is created for these punks outside of just owning them. That would surely create more value.

The super rares have already seen some market action with @elmerlin having bought Kiaan Cabrera from @derangedvisions for 5555 HIVE. Nice one! He must be fond with laser eyes, since he bought another one, now owning 2 out of 5 laser eye punks.

My collection ended up what I'd call pretty average. I have some solid ones, but not any single outlier that would stand out from the collection. Though I kinda like my top 4 female squad: they all have that yellow earring :)

Teagan Cortez was 500+ in rarity when I minted, but went down since more punks with a bow appeared. Though Paulina Daniel ended up raising from 300 to the top of my collection with 452 rarity score.

I also wanted at least one non-human and I did get one zombie so I'm happy with that even though they aren't super rare with 39 being in existence.

My favorite punk must be Ben Hansen though.

I mean look at that guy: He's a physician, but he's wearing a police cap, eye mask and a gold diamond necklace. Dude looks like he's off duty, wearing his costume which is used to some adult play, if you know what I mean, lol.

Nice! If I read onchain data right, you sold it for about 1000 HIVE. That's a really nice profit!

You can see the amount of a given attribute on the right. Only 5 laser eyes in existence. Although I've seen Golden Laser Eyes which is a separate attribute, I think there were 6 of them. So technically there are 11 types with some kind of laser eyes.

I wonder how much value will these hold when other types of NFTs will hit Hive. Hope your investment pays off.

We'll see, I'm ready to hold on to them and see them blow up. The original ones took 4 years to really blow up.

When I came across the post by derangedvisions I was stunned. I still can't believe that people would pay so much for an NFT. Yet, I accept that this is the new normal and as Edicted put in, if there can be some other usecases to it like exclusive gaming then the value of each NFT will spike even further

There are many physical items even without utility that have value, like old post stamps or old coins. They are just scarce and people want them. In that way digitally scarce items could have demand simply by people just wanting them. But if punks would gain utility via game, then they'd be sort of like gaming cards. Then the demand is much easier to create.
