No doubt, everyone has something to talk about regarding emojis, gifs, and stickers when it comes to communication. Communication has enabled us to strengthen the bond we share within ourselves, friends, and families. I can't specify the exact time emoji were oriented in the world of communication. The purpose of emojis in communication is to help display facial expressions, tone of voice, and human gestures.
It can also be said to convey meaning in a message. Emoji are informal, personable, and mostly used to infiltrate humor into digital communication, while it is said to be informal, individuals should also not use emoji during a formal conversation that could bring to an end a formal meeting because it conveys unseriousness or lack of formality.
I had a friend who had an online job interview after applying through different companies for the position of digital content creator only for her to lose it during a chat via WhatsApp communication with the usage of a sticker and a dancing emoji demonstrating excitement. The interviewer took it to heart that she was lacking the formality and the capacity to handle such a role if it was given to her then the interview came to an abrupt stop.
I know when to use an emoji at the right time not because of the term "maturity" or "forming big girl" lol but because there is time for everything. There are individuals out there that always feel that folks who use stickers and emojis are not mature, they think "childish" about them. Even if you have the mutuality of your boss, employer, or manager you should know that being formal keeps you at a certain length with them unless they bring it to you. I feel unrestricted sending emojis and crazy stickers to my buddies expressing myself and laughing out loud. Nah! I am not a fan of gifs haha!! I dislike that because it doesn't carry the silliness, format, and appearance of a sticker or an emoji.
When it comes to stickers, I give them up to Nigerian youths. There are so many weird stickers that when you see them you will laugh your brains out. They make numerous stickers from videos, movies, or pictures. If I should say,"Everyone drop your stickers, especially the ones situated in WhatsApp" just be ready to roll on the floor laughing hysterically.
I have had joy using emojis but more of stickers because they can create something you have in mind, unlike the emoji straight emoticon. My favorite emoji is the love emoticon!! Don't quote me wrong, I am not a lover girl haha!! Ever since the advent of emojis and stickers, let us omit gifs for my sake lol. I have this kitty feeling spiraling up inside me that sorta makes me feel pinky panky.
Emojis and stickers beautify a conversation and make it fun to read, giggle and chuckle while wallowing in the groove of digital communication. Emojis can be used also in saving contacts of our beloved ones in the way it pleases the heart. It can give meaning and affection to the contact and the user of the device. As simple as the emoticons look, they can express tons of emotions, facial expressions, mood swings, and lots more.

I feel sorry for your friend and I also lost my job because of this same thing. My regional sale manager made mistake with someone's name and I used a laughing emoji and he got really mad at me.
There should be standards for chatting officially and this can save us a lot of drama. I love stickers and gifs but I learned my lessons and use them when chatting with friends.
This is the reason why we must know when to make use of stickers

Oh! That your friend must felt so sad losing such a job because of the use of emojis in formal communication. Perhaps, a warning could have made her restrain from doing that in the future but as you know, there are different kinds of people out there. She did it unintentional though but was only expressing herself. At least even if it's physical and she was granted that, she will express with a smiling face na 😬🥴
I love emojis and stickers, but Gifs? Nah... Just as you said, they don't carry enough silliness as stickers would.
Have always loved emoticons and emojis as you rightly stated for the silliness it carries as well as being able to communicate your prevailing expressions beautifully.
