Me da mucho gusto estar de nuevo compartiendo en este maravilloso espacio donde los libros son nuestra pasión, esta vez para reseñar un libro que me encata y he leído varias veces, pertenece a una colección de varios tomos llamada: Un día en la vida de... de la que desafortunadamente solamente tengo este ejemplar.

It gives me great pleasure to be again sharing in this wonderful space where books are our passion, this time to review a book that I love and I have read several times, belongs to a collection of several volumes called: Un día en la vida de... of which unfortunately I only have this copy.

Un día en la vida de Odette, hija de la revolución francesa!

Lo que me encanta de este libro es la cantidad de información sobre la revolución francesa que contiene de una forma sencilla, clara y en un lenguaje para niños, ya que Odette es la que nos narra todos los hechos desde su perspectiva de niña de 13 años mientras le escribe una carta a su abuela que se encuentra en el campo.

Odette nos cuenta un hecho histórico que marcó y cambió la vida de todos de una forma sutil. Nos cuenta cómo es la vida de su familia parisina en esos tiempos, cómo cambió todo lo que conocían y como se formo y desarrolló la revolución francesa.

En la carta de Odette, que fue escrita en 1789 se puede leer como la miseria en la que vivía su gente desató e impulso la revolución para exigir los derechos del pueblo. La niña resalta las diferencias de las clases sociales que se dividían en varios grupos y al que su familia pertenecía era el que menos beneficio tenía y al que aplastaban con los impuestos.

A day in the life of Odette, daughter of the French Revolution!

What I love about this book is the amount of information about the French Revolution it contains in a simple, clear way and in a language for children, since Odette is the one who tells us all the facts from her perspective as a 13 year old girl while she writes a letter to her grandmother who is in the countryside.

Odette tells us about a historical event that marked and changed everyone's life in a subtle way. She tells us about the life of her Parisian family in those times, how everything they knew changed and how the French Revolution was formed and developed.

In Odette's letter, which was written in 1789, we can read how the misery in which her people lived unleashed the revolution to demand the rights of the people. The girl highlights the differences of the social classes that were divided into several groups and the one to which her family belonged was the one that had the least benefit and the one that was crushed with taxes.

Critica social del libro

Esta pequeña niña, en medio de su inocencia, nos hace pensar y reflexionar sobre varios temas que son el cáncer de sociedad en cualquier época de la historia contemporanea:

• La desigualdad de los grupos sociales. En el inicio de su carta Odette nos cuenta que su madre es costurera y lleva a Odette y a sus hermanos a la casa de una cliente que es una condesa y la señora se porta indiferente con lo ellos a pesar de la situación que se vive en las calles, se queja de la demora de su vestido y todavía no le paga el trabajo a la mamá de Odette aún cuando ve que esta tiene 3 pequeños y que la situación económica es crítica.

Social criticism of the book

This little girl, in the midst of her innocence, makes us think and reflect on several issues that are the cancer of society at any time in contemporary history:

• The inequality of social groups. In the beginning of her letter Odette tells us that her mother is a seamstress and takes Odette and her brothers to the house of a client who is a countess and the lady behaves indifferent with them in spite of the situation that is lived in the streets, complains about the delay of her dress and still does not pay the work to Odette's mother even when she sees that she has 3 children and that the economic situation is critical.

• Imposición de roles de género. En otra parte de su carta Odette le cuenta a su abuelita que cuando tomaron la Bastilla ella se disfraza de hombre y se va con su amiga a luchar igual que su padre y los hombres del pueblo. Y le cuenta que desearía haber nacido hombre para ir a luchar. Cosa que hoy en día todavía tenemos en nuestra sociedad que quieren imponer labores y trabajos para hombres y otros para la mujer.

Pero también cuenta como las mujeres se unieron y sumaron más de 6 mil y fueron a exigir al rey pan para las familias y todas lograron entrar a palacio y ser escuchadas.

• Imposition of gender roles. In another part of her letter Odette tells her grandmother that when they took the Bastille she disguises herself as a man and goes with her friend to fight just like her father and the men of the town. And she tells her that she wishes she had been born a man to go and fight. Something that today we still have in our society that wants to impose work and jobs for men and others for women.

But she also tells how the women united and numbered more than 6,000 and went to the king to demand bread for their families and they all managed to enter the palace and be heard.

• La política que cambió para crear el precedente de la historia contemporanea. La instalación de la asamblea nacional constituyente, la redacción de los derechos del hombre y de ciudadano, la redacción de la nueva Constitución de Francia. Fueron hechos que marcaron un cambio para los derechos del pueblo y para las futuras generaciones.

• The policy that changed to create the precedent of contemporary history. The installation of the national constituent assembly, the drafting of the rights of man and citizen, the drafting of the new French Constitution. These were events that marked a change for the rights of the people and for future generations.

Este magnífico libro tiene aparte de la novela, información complementaria que nos va explica do términos, conceptos y hechos históricos para poder empaparnos en todo lo que Odette nos cuenta. El libro fue escrito por 2 autoras chilenas Jacqueline Balcells de Valparaíso y Ana María Güiraldes de Linares, quienes adaptan este hecho histórico en una novela corta para niños. Sumado a ellas el magnífico ilustrador Francisco Ramos de Santiago de Chile quien nos trata de mostrar las escenas con dibujos de la época.

This magnificent book has apart from the novel, complementary information that explains terms, concepts and historical facts to be able to soak in everything that Odette tells us. The book was written by 2 Chilean authors Jacqueline Balcells from Valparaíso and Ana María Güiraldes from Linares, who adapt this historical fact in a short novel for children. They are joined by the magnificent illustrator Francisco Ramos from Santiago de Chile who tries to show the scenes with drawings of the time.

La niña, al igual que todos, tenía sus gustos y necesidades que se vio en la penosa situación de no tener por la fuerte crisis que atravesaba su familia en la época. La niña le comenta a su abuela que tenían mucho tiempo sin comer postre después de la cena, no probaban el pan salado mucho menos el pan dulce de anís y le comenta sobre su deseo de tener un bello vestido como los que cose su madre para las condesas y no tienen los recursos. Esto me hace pensar en la crisis económica que todos estamos pasando a nivel mundial por la pandemia, por la guerra y los problemas de la economía mundial.

The girl, like everyone else, had her tastes and needs that she found herself in the painful situation of not having because of the strong crisis that her family was going through at the time. The girl tells her grandmother that they had a long time without dessert after dinner, they did not eat salty bread, much less sweet aniseed bread, and she tells her about her desire to have a beautiful dress like the ones her mother sews for the countesses and they do not have the resources. This makes me think of the economic crisis that we are all going through worldwide because of the pandemic, the war and the problems of the world economy.

Me encantó el libro y organizando mis cosas lo encontré y no dudé en devorarlo una vez más. Se los recomiendo y espero les guste. Si tienen niños a partir de los 10 años pueden enseñarles este bello libro para aprender hechos históricos importantes mediante una novela.
