Greetings friends architecture lovers! Today I would like to share some pictures I took of the Iglesia San José located in San Cristóbal, capital of Táchira state in Venezuela.

Screenshot_2023-06-07-10-49-53-846_com.google.android.apps.photos-edit-01.jpeg

This gothic piece of architecture is one of our jewels, I feel it represents the city. It is all over the central area with its imposing towers. I remember when I was in school we did a work on the constructions of our city and one of the main focuses was this church, we made some drawings of its features to highlight them and what I liked the most were its edges.

This beauty took almost 40 years to be ready, since 1943. In all the years that I have I confess that I have never visited the church inside. I have seen it in photographs but every time I get to the site it is closed. Since it is on my bucket list, when I get to see it inside I will share the pictures with the community.

On the facade of the church we can see the well marked arches with several borders. The carved wooden doors, a little neglected by the sunlight and rain, look very nice guarding the church. In the carved figures you can see St. Joseph in his wooden workshop teaching the child Jesus the carpenter's trade. In the front we find a small atrium with arched railings that match the neogothic style of the whole building.

The columns that adorn the facade and the sides are very typical of the gothic style, they support the arches of the main door and its windows. The window above the main door has a vital round window similar to the Notre Dame Cathedral.

In the upper part of the doors there is a window that makes that the light enters towards the whole church by the height and the position in front of the sun. There we find a sculpture representing St. Joseph with the baby Jesus.

I like this temple, which seems to be a piece accommodated in the middle of the city in the right space. Also the gray of the marble gives it a gloomy and mysterious touch. Above the spire towers the gray clouds and the birds of prey, a scene for a movie or a horror story.

Seeing this gothic church in my city gives me the impression of seeing one of the most important temples in the world since it follows the same architectural style.

Looking at it from the outside it seems to me that the church lacks windows. If we see the side of the construction we observe that it is a continuous wall adorned with the same style of borders and columns. The windows are at the top, on the second level. I suppose that before starting the spires on the next level there must be light swallows, for ventilation and illumination of the interior.

In my city everyone is very religious and these buildings can be seen all over the city. Although we have the Cathedral and the Sanctuary, which I would like to show you in future publications, in this neo-gothic type there is only the San José church.

I hope you like this tour of one of the most emblematic churches of my city. See you next time. Bye!

Chao!

With the passage of time that Gothic style has been lost, now only history remains, but it really is beautiful, but only to behold it. The truth is, if houses were like this now, I wouldn't want to live in one like that 😅

Hello @chacald.dcymt. Eye-catching landmark! Gothic architecture seems to be the favorite for many sacred buildings. With its unique design features, no wonder its beautiful signature has been scattered all over the world. This is certainly a fantastic decision for the people of San Cristóbal to build a religious icon to represent their remarkable city! 😊
