The Fab Four Strike Again

In this week’s Battle Mage Secrets, we look at the Fab Four ruleset and see what strategy works when only up to four units can be used in battle.

For this battle, I've gone with Alric Stormbringer as my summoner because I wanted the +1 magic boost since I was going to go for a magic attack strategy.

1st position - Furious Chicken - Buffer for the rest of my units. It has no attack so it is just there to absorb damage.
2nd position - Djinn Oshannus - My main attacker. I'm assuming my opponent will also go with a magic attack strategy so its void ability will be very helpful.
3rd position - Medusa - Not a strong attacker but its stun ability could be pretty useful, hopefully.
4th position - Ice Pixie - A cheap and quick attacker and it should be able to do some damage if my opponent doesn't have void.

With the Fab Four ruleset, depending on the mana limitations, I feel that it is better to have at least one strong tank rather than to spread out more thinly with more but weaker attack units.

Looking at my opponent's lineup, I knew that it was going to be a good battle because he only had 1 attack for all his units. That means that none of them could get past my Djinn Oshannus' void.

And that's exactly how the battle played out. By the start of round 3, my opponent was on the ropes with his inability to get past Djinn Oshannus. And so despite his summoner weakening my attack, Void impacted his attack even more.

This brings me back to my point about the tradeoff between having many units that do a little damage and having just a couple of strong attackers and less units. My preference is generally the latter in low mana and low unit count rulesets like Fab Four.

That's all for this Fab Four Edition of the Battlemage Secrets and I hope to see you in again in the next one. What do you think of strong tanks versus having more units?

Once again, the void magic of the Oshannus spelt loss for your opponent even before they started the game, stood no chance at all.
