You Get What You Give

In this week’s Battle Mage Secrets, we look at the Fire & Regret ruleset and see what strategy works when all units have the Return Fire ability. This ability means that enemy units that attack with ranged attacks will receive damage back if their attack lands.

The amount of damage received back is equal to the damage of the attacker divided by two, rounded up.The Reflection Shield ability protects against reflected damage while the Amplify ability increases the reflected damage.

For this battle, I've gone with Alric Stormbringer as my summoner. The battle will probably be a magic or melee one and between the two, I prefer magic because it negates the shield.

1st position - Battle Orca - Good health for three mana and decent speed and attack.
2nd position - Furious Chicken - A 0 mana buffer card. Sometimes, that one extra attack you get to make because of it makes all the difference.
3rd position - Djinn Oshannus - The main attacker of my lineup. Also counting on its Void ability to absorb some magic attack damage.
4th position - Ice Pixie - A decent 2 mana card that can hopefully do some quick damage. Only downside is its health.

With the Fire and Regret and ruleset, range attack units are a liability unless you're trying to Martyr and boost your cards. But for that to work, usually high mana rules are better. In a low mana ruleset, I'd say they are liabilities. As with my previous examples, I'm opting for quality over quantity.

When I saw my opponent's lineup, it could have gone either way. That's because our summoners canceled each other out. The one health penalty could also make a big difference. To be seen.

Wasn't looking good for me at the start of the second round. I was quickly down to one unit while my opponent was still with 3. But if you notice, his magic attacker was pretty powerless, while his range attack unit was very vulnerable if it were to land an attack. The main threat was his Cursed Winduku.

But as you can see, Djinn Oshannus was able to avoid the range attacks and absorb the magic attacks long enough to kill off the Windeku. Then when his range attacker finally landed a hit, it took damage in return and was killed. That just left his magic attacker and remember what I said about 2 attack damage being a minimum? Well, it was just a matter of time before it was killed.

That's all for this Fire and Regret Edition of the Battlemage Secrets and I hope to see you in again in the next one. What's your go-to strategy for Fire and Regret?

Thanks exclusively to the Djinn Oshannus' void magic. It was a 50/50 game and look at that.
What's your overall take on the new changes?

I've been away for the past week so I haven't had much chance to play around with it. Feels like something major has changed with no more daily quests and chests to open. Takes a bit of excitement out of the game imo.

They're preaching the changes to be for the greater good, to be honest, they shouldn't have taken away daily focus. It's a huge oversight and it's not really gone down well with a lot of people.
