Manuel has been on the road for more than an hour, his thoughts gallop along with his heart, although he no longer feels anger, but a feeling of nonconformity that grips his neck. "It's not fair" he shouts, and hits the steering wheel with his fist. A Vallejian hunger makes him see tiles. He must eat something, before his own acids consume him. Goats hanging upside down and cassava cakes adorn the familiar road, without thinking twice he takes a detour and returns at the same speed he was going, he has forgotten that he had to pick up a package: a parcel service he plans to offer.

He arrives at the agreed address; we don't know why he enters through the back door; a smell of meatball stew rushes his salivation; the same sweet smell provokes a familiar sensation, he longs to taste it, it is the aroma of home, that is pleasant to him.

Arelys has gotten, through the internet, a job as a cook, it's her first day, she still doesn't know her employers, they only told her it was for a couple, they gave her the address and to start at seven o'clock.

The woman organizes the dishes that she is slowly taking out of the dishwasher. She is fed up with the constant fight with her husband, she does not think of anything else, she is tired of his emotional blackmail, of his shouting and daily offenses.

Manuel sees the woman's back and wonders if she is young or not, at times she looks familiar, but she has just broken up with her girlfriend of seven years. He adopts a shameless behavior: he hurriedly takes one of the plates and serves himself three meatballs full of sauce, she brings him the rice in silence, he sits down to eat eagerly, very soon he notices her gesture of satisfaction. He offers to cut the vegetables for the salad. She watches him out of the corner of her eye, at what point will he tell her about the working conditions, she wonders but says nothing. He assumes that she will be the one to deliver the order.

Suddenly the door to the street opens, two men, one tall and stocky, the other older and gaunt, enter the house. It is hard to say who is more surprised of the four. The less strong, yellowish-faced one asks the woman why she is there. She tells him that she is the cook they hired, both men look each other in the face and immediately clarify that they prepare their own food, that they have not requested her services.

Manuel laughingly realizes that there has been a mistake and before the situation gets more complicated and he has to pay for the meatballs, he asks for the package to be delivered. Almost in unison the men reply, "you are the package", then the strongest one completes: "we have set you up because we need a kidney for my boyfriend".
For this couple, Arelys becomes useful, as the cook she is, she will be in charge of extracting the organ. Manuel's face begins to show concern, but at that moment the weak man faints and while the strong man helps him. Manuel and Arelys run hand in hand towards the door and soon they are in the street.

I like the storey, it has a happy ending, Arelys and Manuel escape the men's trap, is what i like the most, no harm to be done to anybody.

I really shied away from the idea of creating something strong, with tragic endings, I preferred to give them a way to escape.

Me encantó leerte!
