So many times we've held views and beliefs that go against what others believe and it's been hard to make them respect our own beliefs no matter how unharmful they may seem. I've seen people fight for what they think is right, and I've also seen people go to the extreme to give themselves up for whatever comes with their faith.

Watching this movie actually made me reflect. It was quite enjoyable but then it actually got me really emotional. There was a balance, it started off with series of happy scenes and then it went on to show the most horrifying experiences of war, I could feel my eyes tear up at some point. It was unbelievable to see how destructive we humans had become, life had no more value, it was just something to be taken.

After having a rather stressful day, I just walked in on my roommate watching it yesterday and I decided to join in, and then I just couldn't stop watching till the end. I even forget I was seriously hungry, that's how captivating the movie is.

This is a movie of love, pain, faith, temptation and hopelessness.

The movie runs for 2hours 19 minutes and was released on November 4, 2016 (United States). It stars the spiderman actor Andrew Garfield who stars as Doss, with Sam Worthington, Luke Bracey, Teresa Palmer, Hugo Weaving, Rachel Griffiths, and Vince Vaughn in supporting roles.

The movie has been nominated a number of awards including six Oscar nominations at the 89th Academy Awards. It has received a lot of positive reviews and also was given an 86% by Rotten Tomatoes.

Plot

This movie tells the story of a young christian boy (Desmond Doss) who vows to never kill after an unexpected incident happens. He finds love, he just knew from the first moment he set his eyes on her that she was the one for him. But then, the world war II begins and he decides to enlist as a combat medic against his father's will.

What follows is a series of test of true faith, how much can one man stand on his firm beliefs even when faced with hostility, hate, disbelief and blood shed. It shows how people are haunted by the decisions they took in the past, and also the will power to never be shaken no matter the obstacle that's presented before you.
I'll be talking a little about some of the casts that actually stood out for me.

Desmond Doss

I particularly loved this character, and he was well played by Garfield. How can someone be so loving and have so much faith. This character was well developed. He'd always wanted to save and preserve people's lives instead of take it.

Dorothy Schutte

I think her character was played perfectly. A nurse who ends up falling in love with a nice young man. She could give her all for him and he too for her. But then he decides to enlist in the army and that breaks her heart but it didn't stop her from loving him.

She was always there for him, even in the worst of times and she was his strength. There was so much love to be shared and she did it with all her heart.

Tom Doss

After fighting for his country, he ends up being a shadow of his former self. The events of the war haunts him and that made him cruel to the ones he loved. You could easily see the pain he carried around on his face.

Regardless of everything, he still proved that he could love and he showed that at the right time.

He'd been faced with so many obstacles, one that would make anyone question his faith but instead of breaking him, it made him stronger.

Smitty

It was normal for him to feel so much hate after what he'd been through. He was easily the bad guy for a while, because he couldn't quite understand the protagonist. However when faced with hopelessness he finds himself fighting alongside the one he'd been cruel to.

I love what they did with this character even though it was saddening.

Favourite scene

I had a lot of scenes that actually got me but this one got me laughing out loud. The humor was on point and it actually took me a while to actually get it. I had to watch it over and over again until I ended up getting it, haha. Whoever wrote the dialog in this scene deserves a beer or a pizza.

My take on the movie

I must say the movie was well written even though it's based off a true life story. The cast Garfield actually was the best man for the job. His smile was something magical, it resonated how much he'd been in sync with the character he was playing. The rest of the cast were on point, and they gave it every thing they got.

I must say I enjoyed the movie, it showed a very beautiful love play and then it had very hilarious scenes that almost made you unprepared for the horrific events that'll take place. There were a lot of killings which is typical for a war movie, but what gets me was how real it was. You could see someone's intestines gushing out someone's brains being blown to bits.

Everything was well presented and for a two hours movie I must say there wasn't any unnecessary dialogue which didn't make it boring. I love it for real and I'll surely recommend it anytime any day and I'll surely give it an 8.5 out of ten.

Muchas veces hemos tenido opiniones y creencias que van en contra de lo que creen los demás y ha sido difícil hacerles respetar nuestras propias creencias por muy poco dañinas que parezcan. He visto a personas luchar por lo que creen que es correcto, y también he visto a personas llegar al extremo de entregarse por lo que sea que venga con su fe.

Ver esta película me hizo reflexionar. Fue bastante agradable, pero luego me emocionó mucho. Había un equilibrio, empezaba con una serie de escenas alegres y luego pasaba a mostrar las experiencias más horripilantes de la guerra, podía sentir que mis ojos lloraban en algún momento. Era increíble ver lo destructivos que nos habíamos vuelto los humanos, la vida ya no tenía valor, sólo era algo que se podía tomar.

Después de tener un día bastante estresante, ayer me encontré con mi compañero de piso viéndola y decidí unirme, y luego no pude dejar de verla hasta el final. Incluso me olvidé de que tenía mucha hambre, así de cautivadora es la película.

Es una película de amor, dolor, fe, tentación y desesperanza.

Hablaré un poco de algunos de los personajes que más me llamaron la atención.

Desmond Doss

Particularmente me encantó este personaje, y fue muy bien interpretado por Garfield. Cómo puede alguien ser tan cariñoso y tener tanta fe. Este personaje estaba bien desarrollado. Siempre quiso salvar y preservar la vida de la gente en lugar de quitársela.

Dorothy Schutte

Creo que su personaje fue interpretado perfectamente. Una enfermera que acaba enamorándose de un joven agradable. Ella podría darlo todo por él y él también por ella. Pero entonces él decide alistarse en el ejército y eso le rompe el corazón, pero no le impidió amarlo.

Siempre estuvo a su lado, incluso en los peores momentos, y fue su fuerza. Había mucho amor que compartir y ella lo hizo con todo su corazón.

Tom Doss

Después de luchar por su país, acaba siendo una sombra de lo que fue. Los acontecimientos de la guerra le persiguen y eso le hizo ser cruel con sus seres queridos. Se podía ver fácilmente el dolor que llevaba en la cara.

A pesar de todo, demostró que podía amar y lo demostró en el momento adecuado.

Se enfrentó a muchos obstáculos, que harían que cualquiera se cuestionara su fe, pero en lugar de romperlo, lo hizo más fuerte.

Smitty

Era normal que sintiera tanto odio después de lo que había pasado. Durante un tiempo fue fácilmente el malo de la película, ya que no lograba entender al protagonista. Sin embargo, cuando se enfrenta a la desesperación, se encuentra luchando al lado de aquel con el que había sido cruel.

Me encanta lo que han hecho con este personaje aunque sea triste.

Escena favorita

Había muchas escenas que realmente me atrapaban pero esta me hizo reír a carcajadas. El humor estaba en su punto y en realidad me tomó un tiempo para realmente conseguirlo. Tuve que verla una y otra vez hasta que acabé entendiéndola, jaja. El que escribió el diálogo de esta escena se merece una cerveza o una pizza.

Mi opinión sobre la película

Debo decir que la película estaba bien escrita a pesar de estar basada en una historia real. El reparto Garfield era realmente el mejor para el trabajo. Su sonrisa era algo mágico, se notaba lo compenetrado que estaba con el personaje que interpretaba. El resto del reparto estaba en su punto, y lo dieron todo.

Debo decir que disfruté de la película, mostraba una obra de amor muy bonita y luego tenía escenas muy hilarantes que casi te hacían no estar preparado para los horribles acontecimientos que tendrían lugar. Hubo muchos asesinatos, lo cual es típico de una película de guerra, pero lo que me atrapó fue lo real que fue. Podías ver los intestinos de alguien saliendo a borbotones y los cerebros de alguien volando en pedazos.

Todo estaba bien presentado y para una película de dos horas debo decir que no había ningún diálogo innecesario que no la hiciera aburrida. Me encanta de verdad y seguramente la recomendaré en cualquier momento y seguramente le daré un 8,5 sobre diez.
