When I saw the title of this movie I was like huh, was this the movie my guy was all hyped up about? He'd seen the trailer and was convinced it was a nice movie plus it is one of his favorite genres, high school drama. I certainly watch anything as long as it's interesting but I have a great affection for animation movies, guess it just calms me down and makes me forget the stress life comes with.

The movie for me was supposed to be a great one, well because I saw a beautiful girl on the front cover, nothing that beautiful can be boring in any way and I pretty much know high school movies, there's this setting that appeals to a young man like me, you know, it reminds me of the good old days when I used to almost enjoy going to school.

Then I started to watch the movie, at first it got really boring for me, because at every turn the protagonist is having a direct dialogue with the audience (you, me and anyone watching). I guess I sort of didn't expect it to run on for that long (well I didn't really have any expectations) and it wasn't bad but it wasn't stopping me from wanting more action.

I sort of fell in love with the cast almost immediately, I don't know they were all perfect to me. Angourie Rice (honor) is quite the beauty, what was I expecting with a name like Rice and I must say her smile and voice got me and there's Gaten Matarazzo (Micheal), they sure have weird names in real life, hehe. Well michael actually was amazing, gosh, I don't think I've really seen him any movie (he kind of looks like the guy in Stranger things and I haven't seen it lol) but he did it for me, entered into the character quite easily, they all did though. The rest of the casts Armani Jackson (Travis), Amy Keum (Kennedy), Ben Jackson Walker (Gary) and so did pretty well.

It's great to see teenagers who even with all the pressure that comes with being a high schooler finding a place for themselves in the society somehow. It isn't easy, because not everyone is always going to warm up to you and sometimes, untill you take a step forward you'll always be stuck in one place. Pretty much sells what happens in the society today, but this time, it's in Honor's society.

The Movie

It's always great to see someone who has a dream and is well driven towards achieving it. Honor had always had a phobia, she always wanted to make it to a good school and never come back, you know, come back to suffer and do odd things. She wanted to be really successful and all her life had been leading up to this moment, her final weeks as a senior.

She'd pretty much had everything all figured out , she's smart and uses that smartness wisely. She's friends with the most popular girls in school, doing great in her studies and in good books with Mr Calvin ( the man who has the key to her future). She keeps tabs on him and follows up only to discover that she's among the top four of his choices for the college she dreams of. This takes her off balance and here's where the whole action begins to set in, she needs to knock the other kids off their game and be at the top.

That's where her scheming comes into place. With the help of her friends she manipulates the other three bright students in very unsuspecting ways. It's impressing to see how her schemes fall into place very perfectly. She gets Kennedy to spend time in the school play, even Travis but then she needs to get a distraction for Micheal who's her biggest threat.

She immediately goes to work on him but she forgets that she's dealing with humans. She finds herself being closer to them than she'd ever imagined she would and things start to play out by itself. You should watch it to see what happens next.

My take on the movie

I've always wondered how the society actually reacts to your dreams and goals in life. Well, the truth is, nobody actually cares about you, not like nobody actually cares but they don't, hehe, they'll choose themselves over you every time. But then you'll just be wrong if you have this kind of thought. When you get to know people you'll see that they're sides of them you probably misread. This movie actually tries to paint that picture, things aren't always as they seem.

I pretty much enjoyed the story line and it's controversial to see homosexuals trying to be accepted by society. But I don't know, the way it was portrayed didn't seem uncomfortable, they made it cute, lol, and that didn't put me off at all. It was cool too to see the main character break the fourth wall, it made this connection and it was instant.

The story line was a great one, I learnt a lot of lessons. It's beautiful to have people who are ready to fight for you and you'll probably not know they'll do that until you let them in. You might probably get hurt, surely we always get hurt, but it's worth it sometimes. We might end up discovering some parts of us that we never knew existed. You'll discover small details you've always missed, some about your family and some about your friends.

Setting was on point and I couldn't get enough of Honor's smile (she's so beautiful!), Using her as the main character surely made the movie something to watch. The writer David. A Goodman, producer Michael Lewen and director Oran Zegman really did a good job on this one. It's certainly taking an 8 out of 10 for me.

Cuando vi el título de esta película me quedé pensando en si esta era la película por la que mi chico estaba tan entusiasmado. Había visto el tráiler y estaba convencido de que era una buena película, además es uno de sus géneros favoritos, el drama de instituto. Ciertamente veo cualquier cosa mientras sea interesante pero tengo un gran afecto por las películas de animación, supongo que me calma y me hace olvidar el estrés que conlleva la vida.

La película para mí se suponía que iba a ser una gran película, bueno porque vi a una chica hermosa en la portada, nada tan hermoso puede ser aburrido de ninguna manera y conozco bastante las películas de la escuela secundaria, hay este escenario que atrae a un joven como yo, ya sabes, me recuerda a los buenos tiempos cuando solía casi disfrutar de ir a la escuela.

Entonces empecé a ver la película, al principio se me hizo muy aburrida, porque en cada momento el antagonista está teniendo un diálogo directo con el público (tú, yo y cualquiera que esté mirando). Supongo que no esperaba que se alargara tanto (bueno, en realidad no tenía ninguna expectativa) y no estaba mal, pero no dejaba de querer más acción. Pero luego no resultó ser tan malo.

En cierto modo me enamoré del reparto casi de inmediato, no sé todos eran perfectos para mí. Angourie Rice (honor) es toda una belleza, que me esperaba con un nombre como Rice y debo decir que su sonrisa y su voz me atraparon y ahí está Gaten Matarazzo (Micheal), seguro que tienen nombres raros en la vida real, jeje. Bueno michael la verdad es que estuvo increíble, caramba, creo que no le he visto ninguna película (se parece un poco al chico de Stranger things y no la he visto lol) pero para mi lo hizo, entró en el personaje con bastante facilidad, todos lo hicieron sin embargo. El resto del reparto Armani Jackson (Travis), Amy Keum (Kennedy), Ben Jackson Walker (Gary) y demás lo hicieron bastante bien.

Es estupendo ver a adolescentes que, incluso con toda la presión que conlleva ser un estudiante de secundaria, encuentran un lugar para sí mismos en la sociedad de alguna manera. No es fácil, porque no todo el mundo te va a querer y a veces, hasta que no das un paso adelante siempre te quedas estancado en un sitio. Es lo que ocurre en la sociedad actual, pero esta vez en la sociedad de Honor.

La película

Siempre es genial ver a alguien que tiene un sueño y está bien impulsado para conseguirlo. Honor siempre tuvo una fobia, siempre quiso llegar a una buena escuela y no volver nunca, ya sabes, volver a sufrir y hacer cosas raras. Quería ser realmente exitosa y toda su vida había estado conduciendo a este momento, sus últimas semanas como estudiante de último año.

Lo tenía todo planeado, es inteligente y utiliza esa inteligencia sabiamente. Es amiga de las chicas más populares de la escuela, le va muy bien en los estudios y tiene buenas relaciones con el Sr. Calvin (el hombre que tiene la llave de su futuro). Ella lo vigila y le hace un seguimiento, pero descubre que está entre los cuatro primeros de su elección para la universidad con la que sueña. Esto la desequilibra y aquí es donde comienza toda la acción, ella necesita dejar a los otros chicos fuera de juego y estar en la cima.

Ahí es donde entran en juego sus intrigas. Con la ayuda de sus amigos, manipula a los otros tres brillantes estudiantes de forma muy desprevenida. Es impresionante ver cómo sus planes encajan a la perfección. Consigue que Kennedy participe en la obra de teatro de la escuela, incluso Travis, pero luego necesita conseguir una distracción para Micheal, que es su mayor amenaza.

Inmediatamente se pone a trabajar con él, pero se olvida de que está tratando con humanos. Se encuentra con que está más cerca de ellos de lo que nunca había imaginado y las cosas empiezan a desarrollarse solas. Deberías verlo para ver lo que ocurre a continuación.

Mi opinión sobre la película

Siempre me he preguntado cómo reacciona la sociedad ante tus sueños y objetivos en la vida. Bueno, la verdad es que no le importas a nadie, no es que a nadie le importe sino que no, jeje, se elegirán a sí mismos antes que a ti siempre. Pero entonces estarás equivocado si tienes este tipo de pensamiento. Cuando conozcas a la gente verás que son lados de ellos que probablemente malinterpretaste. Esta película realmente trata de pintar ese cuadro, las cosas no son siempre como parecen.

Me gustó bastante el argumento y es controvertido ver a los homosexuales intentando ser aceptados por la sociedad. Pero no sé, la forma en que se retrató no me pareció incómoda, lo hicieron lindo, lol, y eso no me desanimó para nada. También fue genial ver al personaje principal romper la cuarta pared, hizo esta conexión y fue instantánea.

El argumento fue genial, aprendí muchas lecciones. Es bonito tener personas que están dispuestas a luchar por ti y probablemente no sepas que lo harán hasta que las dejes entrar. Probablemente te hagan daño, seguramente siempre nos hacen daño, pero a veces merece la pena. Puede que acabemos descubriendo algunas partes de nosotros que no sabíamos que existían. Descubrirás pequeños detalles que siempre has pasado por alto, algunos sobre tu familia y otros sobre tus amigos.

La ambientación estaba en su punto y no me cansaba de ver la sonrisa de Honor (¡es tan guapa!), usarla como protagonista seguramente hizo que la película fuera algo digno de ver. El guionista David A Goodman, el productor Michael Lewen y el director Oran Zegman realmente hicieron un buen trabajo en esta. Sin duda, se lleva un 8 de 10 para mí.
