After watching Honor Society and making a review on it, I became immediately bored so I decided to watch the other movie I had on my phone. I must confess my expectations had already been set so high after the first movie I watched, so I sort of was expecting two things, either a comedy movie or a action thriller but I barely got any of them, I don't know how to classify this genre. Even if there were a lot of weird scenes and funny conversation, I still can't say it's entirely comedy. Released on July 29 2022, by Searchlight Pictures on Hulu, it runs for 103minutes.

The movie actually set it's own pace and I had to follow slowly. In a way it sort of resonated with me because I've always had a dream of being appreciated and known for what I do. It's sad when you actually have a passion for something and it seems like no one would acknowledge that and you go on social media to find a lot of people being praised and loved for doing almost as good as you think you can do.

20220730_175515.jpg

It's shameless to go about fame the wrong way, but sometimes it feels like that's what the world really wants to see, controversy, lies and fake living. If you're following what you see on the internet then you're in for a load of crap. This movie was careful to point out that not everything you see on the internet is real but some go about it so well and they get praised for it. Made me remember that time when a lot of sex tapes were being leaked, most of them were of popular influencers and celebrities. Inasmuch as most of them denied having anything to do with the release, it actually gave them a certain relevance because they were being talked about and it actually helped them grow.

The big question is how long can you continue with the lie, how far are you willing to go just to get your name on everyone's list. It's tempting and I must say there were times when I thought ohh, just fake it till you make it but then seeing what Zoey Dutch (Danni) had to go through actually gave me a rethink. I don't know why but I was so excited to see Dylan o'brien (Colin), my favorite Character Styles in Teenwolf and the star the Maze Runner. He always owns up to the character even if he didn't really do much here. Mia Isaac (Rowan) did pretty great too, her beauty always sensation to see. The other casts Nadia Alexander, Tia Dionne Hodge, Negin Farsad and so on were okay.

About

20220730_175606.jpg

The movie revolves around a photo editor who actually thinks she can do great as a writer but her boss doesn't actually see any future in writing for her. She's weird and her colleagues are somewhat not impressed with her. She just lives in a world of her own and fantasizes about being recognized one day. She sort of has a crush on a big time celeb who surely everyone loves.

20220730_175551.jpg

Surprisingly she runs to him outside work and tries to impress him. She takes a drag from the blunt he was smoking and also goes on to lie about being a great writer and that she frequently went on retreats. She sort of says too much telling him that her next retreat is in paris and goes home to actually get an idea that she actually actualizes.

She takes pictures of her and post it on her Instagram and gets a follow from her celebrity crush. But things take a turn when it's revealed that there was a bomb blast in the place she was posing to be at. It stirs reactions from friends and family after they all thought she was part of the victims of the bomb. She has to keep up with her lie and goes on to be friends with another popular figure with a voice.

She's surprised after she gets given a chance for her article to be published and it actually goes viral. The fames actually becomes beautiful and fun for her but would she be able to keep up the lie till the end?.. you'll have to see this movie to find out.

My take on the movie

20220730_175624.jpg

I don't really get what the writer and director Quinn Shephard was trying to do with this story. Surely there was a lesson sold but it just didn't connect the dots for me and having beautiful casts like Dylan o'brien and Zoey Dutch who collaborated in The outfit (2022), I was expecting a lot more though.

The story line didn't quite intrigue me that much because I was expecting a lot of fun and I didn't really like the ending, it was somewhat predictable for me but it doesn't mean I didn't relate to it. I guess the writer was trying to portray how things really are in our everyday lives and social media platforms. Including the LGBTQ was also a clear indication that times had changed.

The casts were truely entertaining and I loved the setting, colors and most of all dressings. Whoever was in charge of Dylan's wardrobe and looks was on point, dude actually was always dressing to kill and I loved that. The locations were well picked and I must say there weren't too many unnecessary scenes but I didn't quite understand what the black homeless girl was doing in the movie, I saw her as a misplaced cast, very very unnecessary.

20220730_175650.jpg

I loved how powerful Mia Isaac played her role, I'm not sure I've seen her in any movies and for a first timer she did really good. There were emotional scenes and ones that actually made me shiver, I must say it was interesting but it doesn't feel like something I'll watch a second time. You can see the movie if you're looking to just pass time, I'll rate it a 6 out of 10.

I think many of us go through that moment when we want to be recognized for what we do, and sometimes many are able to go to great lengths to achieve it.
Usually what starts with a lie never ends well, but good that you have left the intrigue to find out what ends up happening in the end in the movie.
Thank you friend @chincoculbert for this good post 🙂👋👋 A pleasure to have been able to read your review ☺️ Greetings 👋👋👋

Yhhh, it's sad the way we're all moved by what society thinks of us, craving so much attention and acceptance.

That's what lying does, it lets you sink and there's certainly no way out when you're already in too deep.

I appreciate you coming around and making such a fine comment..it's my pleasure friend ❤️

Woah I did not know that this movie was out yet. I've had high expectations for it mainly because of Dylan O'brien and all the hype around the movie. Oh well, I guess I'll lower my expectations now. I still want to see Dylan perform. Dude always knows how to liven up a story.

Lol, you certainly should lower them because it's not really as great as the hype but I must confess that I still had to watch it because I enjoyed seeing Dylan o'brien..dude just knocks me off with his whole new look and outfits...he's weird and just the right amount of stupid..lol...you should still see it if you get the chance ✌️

Nice review man. I honestly felt the same about this movie, it was too slow. I really had high hopes for it since Dylan and Zoey were in it but I was really disappointed, awesome color contrast but a weak story line

Yhhh, a lot of good colors and great settings but still didn't sell the story like I had wanted... Dylan and Zoey were good casts but that chemistry would have been used a lot better...I guess we don't always get what we want, hehe ..

Thanks for your comment ❤️
