Pearl 2022 || I deserve to be loved even if I'm bad

It's been pretty hard joggling between school and Hive especially since I've got exams staring me right in the face. Notwithstanding all the serious reading and back to back classes, I always had the #spookymonth contest at the back of my head and how I've not been as actively involved as I should be. Thinking about it a lot, I decided to look up some recent Horror movies and found this one a little bit compelling. It's really been a while I watched a slasher film, with the recent horrors being about strange beings and spirits invoked from the dead to come wreck havoc.
Pearl felt a little different, the name sounded like something I'll like and the cover looked all exciting. It's always been in the human nature to dream. Even though circumstances finds us at a place where dreaming might be a taboo because the possibilities of these dreams coming to pass might be a little impossible. I loved the oldies setting of this movie, moving away again from the political display in our movies today and takes us to World war I.
I wonder how life must have been then, with film starting to make more headway. I want to be a dancer one day, and not just any dancer but one the whole world would celebrate. I've always had that dream, like Pearl I just might be stuck. But not in a farm, but in financial instability and the ability to push myself for the world to see. What the Director Ti West tried to portray in this movie was relatable and it would leave you wondering about your own sanity. I've had moments when I've had what I wanted most given to another. If I had been a psycho or in an horror movie maybe I might have done something. The limit to what our minds can think and act on is just a thin line and the character Pearl just broke that line in so many disturbing ways and you'll end up finding this film quite disturbing, in a fun way of course.
I didn't know what to expect from the movie, didn't see the first movie and certainly didn't see no trailers. I had just hoped it wouldn't disappoint me, because lately Horror movies have been deviating from the theme Horror and incorporating some pretty much confusing stuff that'll leave you angry at the director and at yourself for wasting your time. The protagonistic antagonist (according to me) Mia Goth (pearl) could be seen in different lights by many but I saw her as someone who'd been a victim of life. She'd been exposed to some pretty depressing things and left to face the consequences. Her state of psychology cannot be understood, felt like a joker kind of feeling with moods changing at moments and her personality going with it.
Everyone yearns to feel love, no matter how bad they are. Are we all not bad, they were times when I'd wished someone dead in my head, you might have too but we didn't get the heart to actually kill them ourselves, doesn't make us any less worthy to be loved. But then if I had a Pearl in real life, I'll pretty much run faster than Mitsy did.
Pearl
In 1918, following the influenza pandemic, Pearl is a young girl living with her immigrant German parents in Texas with her dad being full body paralyzed and her mom being edgy. She's married to a young man (Howard), who joins the army serving in world war I.
Pearl's mom insists she helps take care of the farm and her father but Pearl dreams of a more intriguing life. She longs to be a Chorus girl inspired by the films she sees at the local cinema and it certainly goes against her mom's approval.
The young girl shows disturbing signs and does things that frightens even her mother. On a recent trip to go get some medicines for her father she meets a projectionist who takes a liking to her. She informs him of her dream and he reassures her that she can achieve them. She realizes that she could achieve them if she didn't have a dad to take care of and an overbearing mother. Would she be able to do what it takes to get out of the farm and achieve her dream?..you'll have to watch it to find out.
My opinion
It had this "wizard of oz" kind of setting to me at first. With the colorful display and bright colored filming. Pearl is a movie I enjoyed watching no matter how disturbing it felt. The character Mia Goth really pulled off this performance really well with each passing moment. She gave off the psychotic crazy girl really well and her accent gave it just the perfect twist. You could see how very disturbed with the way she talked and how she walked.
Though the movie wasn't that overly scary, it gave me the creeps early on into the movie. The sounds were fully in action trying to mess with my mind. I was wondering when the whole action was going to start though being a little impatient. I loved the slow build up, there wasn't too much dialogue as there were weird sounds and more weird actions to fill up the space. The other casts, David Corenswet, Tandi Wright, Matthew Sunderland, and Emma Jenkins-Purro though not much life was given to them fell well in place. I particularly like how beautiful Mitsy was, gave any one reason to be really envious and her clueless friendly demeanor would make you fall for her, maybe, hehe.
Each character was developed to a point where you'll have enough attachment to feel their deaths. The filming was beautifully done and the whole setting was quite dreamy for a slasher movie. The colors were bright, so bright you'd think you were watching a musical and the camera angles were good too. The dressing and whole look made you enjoy it really more, took us back to the times when cars were so slow and bicycles were still a great means of transportation.
There wasn't too much to miss in this movie, the story was pretty straight forward. I believed the story could have been a lot more less predictable at some point. But even it's predictability still made you enjoy it really more. You knew someone was going to die, but you'd be left wondering what way they'll die. There was blood, enough of it to be a slasher movie but definitely not as I'd expected. I was willing to bluntly see some killings, like what happened! I wanted to enjoy every bit of this horror movie, wanted to see every stab and the look on the victims eyes, maybe I'm sounding a little bit over the edge now.
There were so many good scenes that it'll be hard to pick one. I loved the scene where she used her axe, it made me savour for more and then they gave it to me, showing how she split each part of the body and fed it to the crocodile, I'm trying hard not to give away any spoilers!
If you're wondering if you should see this one, I think should if you have a thing for horror movies, if not I think you should skip it...I give it a rating of eight out of ten.

Ha sido bastante difícil alternar entre la escuela y Hive, sobre todo porque tengo los exámenes delante de mis narices. A pesar de todas las lecturas serias y las clases consecutivas, siempre tuve el concurso #spookymonth en la parte posterior de mi cabeza y cómo no he estado tan activamente involucrado como debería. Pensando mucho en ello, decidí buscar algunas películas de Terror recientes y encontré esta un poco convincente. La verdad es que hacía tiempo que no veía una película slasher, ya que los horrores recientes tratan de seres extraños y espíritus invocados de entre los muertos para venir a causar estragos.
Pearl se sentía un poco diferente, el nombre sonaba como algo que me iba a gustar y la portada parecía emocionante. Soñar siempre ha estado en la naturaleza humana. Aunque las circunstancias nos encuentran en un lugar donde soñar puede ser un tabú porque las posibilidades de que estos sueños se hagan realidad pueden ser un poco imposibles. Me encantó la ambientación antigua de esta película, que se aleja de nuevo del despliegue político de nuestras películas de hoy en día y nos lleva a la Primera Guerra Mundial.
Me pregunto cómo debió ser la vida entonces, con el cine empezando a abrirse paso. Quiero ser bailarina algún día, y no una bailarina cualquiera, sino una que el mundo entero celebre. Siempre he tenido ese sueño, como Pearl, que podría estar atrapada. Pero no en una granja, sino en la inestabilidad financiera y en la capacidad de esforzarme para que el mundo lo vea. Lo que el director Ti West trató de retratar en esta película fue relatable y te dejaría preguntándote sobre tu propia cordura. He tenido momentos en los que me han dado lo que más quería a otro. Si hubiera sido un psicópata o estuviera en una película de terror, tal vez habría hecho algo. El límite de lo que nuestras mentes pueden pensar y actuar es una delgada línea y el personaje Pearl acaba de romper esa línea de muchas maneras perturbadoras y terminarás encontrando esta película bastante perturbadora, de una manera divertida por supuesto.
No sabía qué esperar de la película, no vi la primera película y ciertamente no vi ningún tráiler. Sólo esperaba que no me decepcionara, porque últimamente las películas de terror se desvían del tema Horror e incorporan cosas bastante confusas que te dejarán enfadado con el director y contigo mismo por perder el tiempo. La antagonista (según yo) Mia Goth (perla) podría ser vista bajo diferentes luces por muchos pero yo la vi como alguien que había sido víctima de la vida. Había sido expuesta a cosas bastante deprimentes y se le dejó afrontar las consecuencias. Su estado psicológico no puede entenderse, se sentía como una especie de bromista con estados de ánimo que cambiaban por momentos y su personalidad iba con ello.
Todo el mundo anhela sentir amor, por muy malo que sea. No somos todos malos, hubo momentos en los que deseé la muerte de alguien en mi cabeza, puede que tú también lo hicieras pero no tuvimos el corazón para matarlo nosotros mismos, no nos hace menos dignos de ser amados. Pero entonces, si yo tuviera una Perla en la vida real, correría más rápido que Mitsy.
Pearl
En 1918, tras la pandemia de gripe, Pearl es una joven que vive con sus padres inmigrantes alemanes en Texas, con su padre paralítico de cuerpo entero y su madre nerviosa. Está casada con un joven (Howard), que se alista en el ejército para servir en la Primera Guerra Mundial.
La madre de Pearl insiste en que ayude a cuidar de la granja y de su padre, pero Pearl sueña con una vida más intrigante. Anhela ser una chica de coro inspirada en las películas que ve en el cine local y ciertamente va en contra de la aprobación de su madre.
La joven muestra signos inquietantes y hace cosas que asustan incluso a su madre. En un viaje reciente para ir a buscar unas medicinas para su padre, conoce a un proyeccionista que se encariña con ella. Ella le informa de su sueño y él le asegura que puede conseguirlo. Se da cuenta de que podría alcanzarlos si no tuviera un padre al que cuidar y una madre dominante. ¿Será capaz de hacer lo necesario para salir de la granja y alcanzar su sueño?... tendrás que verlo para averiguarlo.
Mi opinión
Al principio tenía una ambientación tipo "mago de oz". Con el despliegue de colores y la filmación de colores brillantes. Pearl es una película que disfruté viendo por muy inquietante que me pareciera. El personaje de Mia Goth realmente sacó esta actuación muy bien con cada momento que pasaba. Ella dio la chica loca psicótica muy bien y su acento le dio el toque perfecto. Se notaba que estaba muy perturbada con su forma de hablar y de caminar.
Aunque la película no era excesivamente aterradora, me dio escalofríos al principio de la película. Los sonidos entraban de lleno en acción tratando de meterse en mi mente. Me preguntaba cuándo iba a empezar toda la acción, aunque estaba un poco impaciente. Me encantó la lenta construcción, no había demasiado diálogo, ya que había sonidos extraños y más acciones extrañas para llenar el espacio. Los otros actores, David Corenswet, Tandi Wright, Matthew Sunderland y Emma Jenkins-Purro, aunque no se les dio mucha vida, estuvieron bien en su sitio. Me gustó especialmente lo guapa que era Mitsy, daba motivos de envidia a cualquiera y su despistada conducta amistosa hacía que te enamoraras de ella, tal vez, jeje.
Cada personaje fue desarrollado hasta un punto en el que tendrás suficiente apego para sentir sus muertes. La filmación estaba muy bien hecha y toda la ambientación era bastante soñadora para una película slasher. Los colores eran brillantes, tan brillantes que pensarías que estabas viendo un musical y los ángulos de la cámara también eran buenos. La vestimenta y todo el aspecto te hacían disfrutar mucho más, nos transportaba a los tiempos en que los coches eran tan lentos y las bicicletas eran todavía un gran medio de transporte.
No había mucho que echar de menos en esta película, la historia era bastante directa. Creo que la historia podría haber sido mucho menos predecible en algún momento. Pero incluso su previsibilidad te hacía disfrutar mucho más. Sabías que alguien iba a morir, pero te quedabas con la duda de cómo iba a morir. Había sangre, la suficiente para ser una película slasher, pero definitivamente no como esperaba. Estaba dispuesto a ver algunos asesinatos sin tapujos, ¡como lo que ocurrió! Quería disfrutar de cada trozo de esta película de terror, quería ver cada puñalada y la mirada de las víctimas, tal vez estoy sonando un poco al límite ahora.
Hubo tantas escenas buenas que será difícil elegir una. Me encantó la escena en la que usó su hacha, me hizo saborear más y luego me la dieron, mostrando cómo partía cada parte del cuerpo y se lo daba de comer al cocodrilo, ¡me estoy esforzando por no desvelar ningún spoiler!
Si te estás preguntando si deberías ver esta, creo que deberías si te gustan las películas de terror, si no creo que deberías saltártela... Le doy una puntuación de ocho sobre diez.

Now you have to watch X. They are completely different movies. X is an homage to the horror films of the seventies and also to the exploitation films of that era. There Pearl is an old woman.
I loved the movie, because it is very different from X, at the same time they are part of the same universe, but this time the director used the style of old Hollywood movies, which reflect the era in which the story takes place.
Mia is fantastic in her character. She also plays the old Pearl in X, as well as the other character, Maxine.
By the way, the third movie is due next year, it will be called Maxxine and will be set in the 1980s. I'm already looking forward to seeing it.

I just realized that after reading a little about Pearl before making this post..I didn't have an idea there was a first movie...wow...
This is genius I must say!.. telling different stories in the same universe and each one having so much uniqueness that you'll enjoy em so much..now I'm excited.
She is phenomenal and good at what she does...I immediately became impressed after watching her play Pearl..I can't wait for her to be x and Maxine..

Esa apreciación de que el film es predecible es porque es una precuela y Pearl ya fue vista en otra época.
Me parece genial que no haya visto X, porque va a un paso que podrá tal vez percibir de una manera diferente a "X", ojalá que cuando vea ese film haga una reseña para saber su opinión.
Me gusta mucho la estética de esta película, tengo bastante ganas de verla desde que ví X y supe que se trataba de una trilogía (Aunque fuese poco convencional), me gusta que en términos de temática y aspecto visual sea tan diferente.
Horror movies are my thing...but I enjoy a very good one...pearl is one of them...can you imagine how I felt seeing her chop someone into different parts and feeding it to the crocodile???...gave me the creeps 😂😂...
