Sunrise over Istanbul FAIL VLOG // Sonnenaufgang über Istanbul (3:08 Mins)
Summary:
My first VLOG. I am in Istanbul and the weather was not as planned. I show you how I made my photos.
Today, for the first time, I more or less filmed myself outdoors with the intention of uploading it. I got up quite early: 6:00 AM Turkish time, to be at the Süleymaniye Mosque in Istanbul. From there, you can look over many parts of Istanbul. Normally, you can see the July 15 Martyrs' Bridge (15 Temmuz Şehitler Köprüsü), which is beautifully lit at night. On the left side, you can see the Galata Tower, which is currently surrounded by scaffolding as it's being restored. Plus, it lightly rained this morning, and combined with the fog, the visibility was quite obscured. Sometimes you're just unlucky.
But that's the beauty of photography: you can visit places 10 times and usually get quite different results.
I then tried to play with the geometry of the roofs. If I couldn't shoot into the distance, then I focused on something closer (Picture A and Picture B).

At the mosque, I photographed the towers. As you can see in the video, there were seagulls flying around. I waited for the right moment until one of the gulls was in a straight line with the peak; the result is Picture C.
From the viewpoint, I also made a video of myself. As an amateur, I didn't clean the lens from the rain beforehand and had a drop right in the middle, over my face (Picture D).
What pleasantly surprised me was the quality of the Osmo Action (it's the version 1). Picture D is a snapshot from the QuickTime Player that I edited in Lightroom. You might think it was taken with a photo camera. The result, especially given the weather conditions, is more than satisfactory to me.
For me, it's something new to stand "in front of" or next to the camera and talk. I have a bit of experience with live streams; through interacting with other people, you forget much around you, and it becomes quite easy. When you're just talking to a camera, it can feel a bit odd sometimes. I feel much more comfortable behind the camera, but this time I thought, I'll just give it a try.
Heute habe ich mich mehr oder weniger zum ersten Mal draußen gefilmt, mit der Absicht, das Ganze auch hochzuladen. Ich bin recht früh aufgestanden: 6:00 Uhr türkischer Zeit, um an der Süleymaniye-Moschee in Istanbul zu sein. Von hier aus kann man über viele Teile Istanbuls schauen. Normalerweise sieht man die Brücke der Märtyrer des 15. Juli (15 Temmuz Şehitler Köprüsü), die nachts schön beleuchtet ist. Auf der linken Seite sieht man den Galata-Turm, der allerdings aktuell von einem Gerüst umgeben ist, da er restauriert wird. Dazu hat es heute Morgen leicht geregnet und in Kombination mit Nebel war die Sicht recht getrübt. Manchmal hat man eben Pech.
Das ist aber auch das Schöne an der Fotografie: Man kann Orte 10 Mal besuchen und in der Regel zu ganz anderen Ergebnissen kommen.
Ich habe dann versucht, mit der Geometrie der Dächer zu spielen. Wenn ich schon nicht in die Weite fotografieren kann, dann halt etwas mehr aus der Nähe (Bild A und Bild B).

An der Moschee habe ich die Türme fotografiert. Wie man im Video erkennen kann, sind dort Möwen langgeflogen. Ich habe auf den richtigen Moment gewartet, bis eine der Möwen in gerader Linie zur Spitze war; das Ergebnis ist Bild C.
Von dem Aussichtspunkt habe ich dann von mir selbst noch ein Video gemacht. Amateur, wie ich bin, habe ich vorher die Linse nicht vom Regen befreit und hatte einen Tropfen genau in der Mitte, über meinem Gesicht (Bild D).
Positiv überrascht bin ich von der Qualität der Osmo Action (es handelt sich um die Version 1). Bild D ist eine Momentaufnahme aus dem Quicktime-Player, die ich in Lightroom nachbearbeitet habe. Man könnte meinen, das wäre mit einer Fotokamera aufgenommen. Das Ergebnis stellt mich, vor allem bei den Wetterbedingungen, mehr als zufrieden.
Für mich ist es etwas Neues, „vor“ bzw. neben der Kamera zu stehen und etwas zu erzählen. Ich habe ein wenig Erfahrung mit Livestreams; durch die Interaktion mit anderen Menschen vergisst man vieles um sich herum, und das Ganze fällt einem recht leicht. Wenn man nur mit einer Kamera redet, kommt man sich manchmal komisch vor. Vor allem fühle ich mich hinter der Kamera viel wohler. Ich habe mir aber diesmal gedacht, ich probiere es einfach mal.
