James 1:22-25 (KJV) But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

Learning from the Word of God is one thing but putting what we learn into practice is another thing. I have learnt many lessons from the teachings of Bro Eli Soriano of the Members Church Of God International. One of such lessons is the concept of being faithful to keep our promises to our children and others.

In the video shared by @hiro.hive on keeping our promises to our children, Bro Eli told us not to make empty promises to our loved ones. He advised that it is better to surprise one with a gift he/she didn't expect than making promises we can't fulfill.

Considering what is written in Proverbs 13:12:

Proverbs 13:12 (KJV) Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.

I realized that everytime I think that I'm playing with my children with promises which I don't intend to fulfill, I am actually causing their heart to be sick. So, I have decided to only make promises that I know I will fulfill. If I'm not sure of fulfilling that promise, I won't utter it.

I appreciate the grace and wisdom of God in the life of Bro Eli Soriano. May God continue to guide him as he set out to teach the true doctrines of Jesus Christ.
