The Mother of All Fuchsias
(Edited)
It's got what Bees Crave
Today I'm bringing you the biggest @#$% Fuchsias I've ever seen O.o
Now My Grandmother had these in hanging pots all around the open carport awnings with big Christmas Cactuses mixed in every so often.
Now Grandma had some big beautiful Fuchsias but Grandmother's look puny compared to the ones growing at the park's garden.
Here they are,
I had to step back a bit to get them all in the shot...
Do you see all the tree size plants along the two story wall there ?
Those are the Fuchsias...
These Fuchsias are very old and some of the original flowers planted here.
I'd have to check but the garden area is about a 100 years old now so...
The one above almost died but it looks like it's starting to come back as there is new growth about midway up and at some of the tops.
To the lower right is the memorial bench with the Fuchsia carving on it (see first post image)
As you can see these are doing very well here lol. The bloom clusters there are about seven feet off the ground.
Lets take a closer look O.o
Most of my mother's and Grandmother's Fuchsias were the classic pink outer pedals with white center pedals or the red/red ones. Grandmother had a couple of these hot, red/pink with dark purple centers.
A few of these shots are from a couple weeks ago but most are were imaged this morning.
These blooms glow brightly in the sun and I had to tone down the color saturation one a few of these for a change. I normally shoot in neutral color mode so I usually have to boost it a bit.
These are hanging about two feet above my head ^.^
and are the start of the blooms
There are thousands of blooms here and these will continue bloom all summer long.
As I'm imaging these shots I starting to here a lot of birds moving in...
Robins, Sparrows and Hummingbirds are flitting about and I have the garden to myself today, Nice !!!
I'm going to take a few more shots of these incredible Fuchsias and switch over to a telephoto lens and see if I can get a #featheredfriends post today as well.
Well now it looks like the many Hummingbirds that have shown up want me to go away as well as squabbling over the higher blooms.
Hummingbirds can talk some heavy duty poop talk to each other lol
They are highly competitive and more than a little aggressive believe it or not and these Fuchsias are a major spot for them in their daily quest to eat their own bodyweight in food each day.
Here is the final shot of the Fuchsias for today.
I put this one through a "Slate" filter by mistake and was... wow I like that !
If you noticed all the green bushes in the foreground of the first standoff shot . well they are full of buds and they are starting to open.
Sneak peek at what they are and the subject of my next post
Here it is O.o
There are over a dozen types and colors of these here
First one to ID it in the comment section gets a 100% upvote and 1 Hive Tip

It's a dahlia!
Thank you!! One of my favorite flowers because their beauty lasts forever!
Darn! I don't count! Sorry about that. I couldn't help myself!
Just so you know, I have never, ever, ever seen a fuchsia anywhere near that big! I nearly freaked, right here on your page. I must take this thing home to show off. That is in that same park?
I am in awe. I didn't even know they got that big. I have only ever had the purple and fuchsia colored ones. I love that color. Yes! Saturation to the max when you are taking their picture!
Thank you for sharing. I am still stunned!!!!
LOL Sure you count !
That was an easy one though, the next one will be harder =)
Yes that's the park garden with the wishing well. The Columbines are almost done as well as the Poppies although the Poppies will get a couple of more pops this this year they won't be as spectacular as the first one.
I've never seen them get that big ether and everyone and their Grandmas(literally) grow these up here.
Glad you enjoyed the images @dswigle thanks for stopping in =)
Are you kidding me? Thank you for sharing this amazing plant with us! I have grown fuchsias for years but I have never seen one like this! Have an amazing evening!
I have never seen fuchsias anywhere except in baskets ! I never really wondered if they would grow and survive planted in the ground anywhere.
Enjoyed seeing your photos. Pretty amazing !
Hello @jacey.boldart.
Yeah most of the ones I've seen are in pots as well.
They do well in the ground but you have to put them in just the right spot.
They love indirect light but need the direct sun to bloom, so you have to locate them in a spot that only gets direct sun for a few hours in the morning during summer. If they get direct sun in the noon/afternoon they will bake and die.
That's why a lot of people keep them in large hanging pots so they can be moved around.
Thanks for dropping in =)
I think they are great fuchsias! Seeing just one by itself seems lonely and sad, but put up a group and they really are happy and shine!
